### 5/5 — Fabulous App

*2019-10-31*

After trying numerous apps for our daughter who has Downs Syndrome we came across this one.
She is 4.5 years and has trouble writing and blending words. This app enables her to follow a set pattern of writing and reading using letter sounds, and blending. You get regular update emails with progress and certificates to print off when levels have been completed.
It’s a brilliant App and great to try before you purchase. It’s only £1.49 a month or cheaper if you buy for year straight out.
Really worth it. Highly recommend this app.

### 5/5 — Perfect to help with reading and literacy at home

*2019-10-01*

My daughter loves both apps and they have really helped with her engagement around reading and writing.
Very responsive developer support on recent iOS issues - thank you

### 5/5 — Pocket phonics

*2019-06-18*

Fab app very good , it is amazing app my daughter started using it in reception, she is now in year 4,her reading levels is just getting better by the day all due to pocket phonics app she now reads like a year 6 pupil which is amazing. My 5 years old is improving,he doing great in his reading at school. I will recommend this app because it is very good and easy to use it makes the kids love reading books and help read them independently

### 5/5 — Awesome App for learning to read

*2019-04-13*

We have been using this app for a few months now. My daughter is 10 and has Down Syndrome. She just adores reading on this app and celebrates all of her success every time she gets a word right or is able to spell a word at the end of each book. This app encompasses everything from learning to write the alphabet to knowing their phonetic sounds to de-coding and recognizing sight words and finally to reading! Highly recommended. I wish it was available in more languages!

### 5/5 — A teacher at home

*2017-02-23*

As a teacher and a mom, I find it tricky to get good reading and sound skill games that are affordable for parents. This app teaches the same way that we teach at school, and allows the child to not become frustrated by hard words. Highly recommend!

### 5/5 — Brilliant!

*2017-01-25*

This is a great app for teaching children phonics. Children very quickly see that the sounds they are learning can go together to make words and, in no time at all, they discover they can read books. What a great sense of achievement my grandchildren are already experiencing! Well done!

### 5/5 — Great program for helping kids read!

*2016-06-05*

My five-year old son loves reading with this program. Fun and appropriate graphics and sound effects. We started when he was four. Be warned, though, that we always sat next to him to use this as a reading aid, *not* as a reading teacher. It works great when you get tired of reading the same word over and over to your child. The app never loses its patience! And more than the weekly emailed progress reports, watching your child read things all around him (like cereal boxes) makes it all the more rewarding. Give it a try! And make sure you set "Guided access" on (search for that in your Settings panel for your iPad) so your child doesn't end up in Angry Birds when he should be reading!

### 5/5 — Great App with excellent customer service

*2015-12-14*

This is a fab app to introduce phonics & writing to your child! Its personalised & easy to use! The big plus is the ability to choose UK or US voice & sounds & left or right handed writing! Theres so many options to tailor it to your child! My son is addicted & i like the simple approach that makes it fun for a parent & child to do together! The books are a great introduction to reading & altogether make a good learning package! I have to also mention the quick & friendly customer service via email if you have any problems or queries!

### 1/5 — Did they have to lobotomize the narrator?

*2020-06-22*

(See title) - my toddler is supposed to be intrigued by this?

**Developer response:** I'm afraid I'm not sure what you mean by, "Did they have to lobotomize the narrator?" If you email me at support@appsinmypocket.com, I'll do my best to help.

### 1/5 — Not picking up microphone

*2019-03-26*

She shouts or talks quietly, it doesn’t pick up what she’s saying.

**Developer response:** I'm sorry to hear about this. I need you to do something for me so I can sort this out for you. Please start the app up, then tap the Adult button then Help & Support then Report a Bug. This will send me a bunch of diagnostics that hopefully will help me understand what's going wrong.

### 2/5 — Written instructions for people who can’t read

*2020-06-02*

The app relies on displaying written instructions like “When I say a sound, tap the letter”. These instructions aren’t said out loud. But the whole point of the app is the user is learning to read. When you can’t read it is confusing and surreal for the iPad to just start hissing at you. My 3 year old had no idea he was supposed to push the ‘s’ button when that happened

**Developer response:** Hi, there are spoken instructions in the app like you suggest. It's possible that these have been turned off in the player settings. Or, (and this is something that has happened before), the sound is going to a some bluetooth headphones and thus you are not hearing it from the iPad. If you get in touch at support@appsinmypocket.com, I'll be able to help.

### 2/5 — Not phonics

*2015-05-26*

Called pocket phonics but teaching children to put short i vowel sound with s sound to make is (which sounds like "is"). Good up til that point but I can't use this and find it a waste of money.

### 3/5 — My purchase is gone.

*2019-10-08*

After update all the purchase is missing and it is asking to buy again.

**Developer response:** Please email me at support@appsinmypocket.com and tell me what email address you use to log into the app, and I'm sure I'll be able to get this sorted for you.

### 3/5 — Can app name be edited?

*2018-02-09*

Just a personal preference based on my mindset, I would prefer app name to not say "free", more so if I pay to upgrade my app. I do like the lifetime access option. Each time I see the name I find it a bit of a turn off. Good app, thank you.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback. The word "free" has now been removed.

### 4/5 — Needs a part 2

*2020-06-18*

We love it. But we have finished it now ready for a part 2 or higher level. Do you have anything like that?

**Developer response:** Not at the moment. I would love to do it though.

### 4/5 — Please update

*2019-09-22*

Please update. It’s not working since I updated my system. Thanks. My son always uses it and he’s learning a lot from it.

**Developer response:** Hi, a new version of the app has just gone live that should workaround all the issues introduced by iOS13. Please email me at support@appsinmypocket.com if you have any questions at all. And be great if you could update the review too on how the app is now.

### 5/5 — Excellent App to teach/reinforce reading skills

*2024-03-10*

I cannot say enough good things about this app. It has helped all three of my boys on their reading journeys. My youngest son is currently using it now. He is in first grade and struggling with phonics at school. Since having him practice and play on this app, he is now steadily progressing! The best part is that he doesn’t feel like he is doing “work” — just having fun. I cannot imagine a scenario where one would regret purchasing this app. It’s great!

### 5/5 — A great app

*2021-10-17*

This app has worked wonders for my youngest. He is about to turn 6 and has been struggling with reading for a little while.
We have been using the app for only one week and his word recognition and sounding has improved so much.
He works on a couple of activities a day and loves it.
Thank you to the developers for making this incredible app.

### 5/5 — Amazing App

*2020-09-08*

My youngest age 7 has just started back at school and I want to help give her a boost in her reading. Being the eldest in her class I feel she should be more advanced than the rest and noticed her struggling with the sounds. Most likely down to me not knowing how to use phonics correctly as the school never had a parents class to teach us. Through reading the info along with this app I understand it all so much better and my daughter has actually surprised me as to how much she already knows. Through reading the info I have found that her school is one of many that use books that don't focus on sounds she has learnt through phonics as the funding using in place to buy the proper books. Something I will look into through the PTFA. This app not only give the the proper words for sounds they learn but gets them tracing and saying the new sounds as they go along and she has so much fun answering the questions to word sounds correctly, any she gets wrong she is eager to correct. I’m on my 7 day free trail atm but once it’s up I will purchase for the year as it will be well worth the money as it has already got her confidence up. Thank you so much for this app I will recommend to other adults at my children’s school. Xx

**Developer response:** Thank you for taking the time to write this. If your school is interested in using the app, ask them to email support@appsinmypocket.com

### 5/5 — Pocket phonics

*2020-05-17*

I love this app, my daughter has special needs and I can’t believe the progress she has made since using this app. She is seven and works at level 2-3 well since we started using this app just over a week ago she is reading sentences and ever did good on a spelling test I did with her.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2020-05-01*

My daughter and I do this app, she learns and the coin/certificate collecting can be great motivation when she’s not really in the mood...

### 5/5 — Brilliant app

*2020-03-30*

An excellent app at an affordable price. It’s really helping my reception aged son to carry on his reading while the schools are closed. He loves to do the tests at the end of each book and get his certificates.
The app is set up very clearly and the sounding out of the words good.

### 5/5 — Pocket phonics stories

*2020-03-26*

I downloaded this while I’m homeschooling my daughter and this has really helped her with her reading. We are using this app daily and she loves.

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2020-02-27*

We use this for a lot of our students and it is an excellent, comprehensive product for phonics. I manage all the accounts through one login and the support is very responsive. I can thoroughly recommend to schools and parents/carers as you won’t be disappointed.

### 5/5 — This is app very useful

*2020-02-21*

We’re finding this app very useful with our 6 year old with possible dyslexia who is struggling to read and write
After just 3 days of using the app he’s coming on leaps and bounds
