Refreshing as a breath of fresh air.❤️🙏

### 5/5 — What a blessing

*2023-02-07*

We are lucky to have this app.

### 5/5 — Poet audio makes for a better publication than print!

*2023-01-12, version 3.0*

Excellent, intuitive design. Accessible audio and text. Hold your phone sideways for the correct line breaks. I’m not sure if it’s default night-mode, but the white text on black is really nice. Love the downloadable issues! They’ve perfected the format of monthly publication on a phone. Maybe even nicer than a physical mag! Controversial, but i LOVE the audio recordings of people reading their poems. 10/10 excellent work!

### 5/5 — WHAT HAPPENED

*2022-11-11, version 3.0*

I used to love the spin feature for the app. What happened to that?

### 5/5 — Great poetry!

*2020-05-20, version 1.7*

The best poetry app.

### 5/5 — Poetry is the default language of the future

*2019-06-19, version 1.4*

Poetry Magazine is not an antidote nor an alternative. It is the over shadow – – of the hard creepy news of the day. Having it as an app on my phone allows me to look like a normal android human being mutant, and yet while I stare at a mineral-based screen, I am reading poems. Thank my lucky stars.

### 5/5 — Wonderful

*2019-03-08, version 1.4*

I live in Australia, and had been frustrated that my previous (paper) subscription took 4-6 weeks to arrive in my mailbox. This year I decided to check out the virtual magazine via its app and IT IS PERFECT. I’m so grateful to the designers who obviously understand what a poetry reader needs as far as page layout and user-friendly access. There’s even a scrapbook option for me to collect my favourite poems from each edition. I can read the latest and greatest American poetry now while on the go. Thank you.

### 5/5 — I love POETRY

*2018-12-03, version 1.3*

I love the paper copy / the app. / the podcasts

### 5/5 — Smooth app

*2018-09-05, version 1.3*

This app is very easy to navigate. I love having Poetry Magazine everywhere I go.

### 5/5 — What more!

*2018-07-27*

As it is, and as poetry has to be considered by anyone who reads or does not read poetry, POETRY is something that helps us grow that scope and perspective.

### 5/5 — Amazing App for an Already Amazing Publication

*2018-07-10, version 1.3*

Although I’ve also become a print subscriber, I decided to give the app a go and it has not disappointed. Simple, streamlined. Elegant font and enjoyable layout. A new favorite.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Paywall

*2026-05-13, version 3.3*

Might as well just charge for the app if every single article and poem is behind a paywall.

### 1/5 — Missing theme search from old app

*2025-06-16, version 3.3*

You used to be able to visually search by theme of poetry which was great!

### 1/5 — Bring back the spinner

*2023-02-11, version 3.1*

It saved my life.

### 1/5 — No Support

*2023-01-07, version 3.0*

App stopped downloading new issues starting January 2023. I paid for a subscription in the App Store through April 2023. Developer (Poetry Magazine) says they don’t support app subscriptions purchased in the App Store. I spent over two hours with Apple Support trying to trouble shoot, with no success. I was not willing to spend any more time trying to resolve, and asked Apple to process a refund for the unused subscription. The agent didn’t seem to be able to process a refund. I would suggest a print subscription by mail if you want a reliable method to subscribe.

### 1/5 — Gosh. I hate this app.

*2022-10-03, version 2.0*

I loved The Poetry Foundation’s very first app with the revolving poem finder. It was amazing. It centered the poems, the work, then the poets, THEN the publication.

I didn’t have to wade through editions of the publication to try to find a poem. IT WAS THERE.

NOW, I am confronted by the publication, by ribbons of words so badly laid out that the poems are lost in the stacks of publication issues. It puts me off poetry and using The Poetry Foundation as a way to explore it.

Recover that application. Update it. Put the editions online via your website where people can peruse to their heart’s content.

As it is, this new-to-me app hides the poetry and the poets by placing the publication first.

It’s a disaster.

### 2/5 — Expected more than the magazine

*2022-11-08, version 3.0*

I love the app and I love The Poetry Foundation. I regularly check the website but I was expecting the app to be like the web, just in an app-format. That is, being able to read the poem of the day, any other poem, articles, etc. Everything we have in the web for free + the magazine for the subscribers. Maybe soon?

### 2/5 — Glitchy

*2017-05-24, version 1.0*

Randomly stopped working. Have had to redownload several times.

### 3/5 — Great mag

*2019-07-02, version 1.4*

I love the poetry but would like to see more diversity in contributors. I should because there are barrels of poets from everywhere. I don’t expect you to present lowbrow or poorly constructed poetry, but if you use ignore New or modernist styles, you will miss diversifying your mag because many writers out there are creative and clever in different manners, etc. They are writing differently than 19th century, etc.

The Podcast is great and a marvelous idea. I love it.

### 3/5 — Improved but still problematic

*2017-03-12, version 1.0*

I'm so glad the Poetry Foundation re-vamped this app. The layout of each issue is much better, it allows landscape view on iPhone (hallelujah) and the UI is much improved.

However, it still has one same issue that the former had. It is still having difficulty retrieving past purchases through iTunes and not a subscription. It keeps saying it can't connect to iTunes. For those who have purchased many back issues (like me!) that makes the app, and also our historical purchases, way less valuable.

### 4/5 — As good as a phone can be

*2018-06-18, version 1.3*

Great magazine, good app, but some poems just cannot be presented adequately on a phone screen. I mainly use the app to preview the print issue before it arrives.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Literally save me from brain rot

*2026-04-11, version 3.3*

Every time I am tempted to doom scroll instead I read a poem. I feel sooooo much better for it.

### 5/5 — Freedom is in artists speaking truth

*2025-10-06, version 3.3*

We must support our artists and poets are the pinnacle of artists.

### 5/5 — Time

*2025-09-24, version 3.3*

I find when I am down or up, being able to quickly open the app and flip to a poem my heart is refreshed - then back to the fray that marks each day

### 5/5 — Wonderful magazine

*2025-07-23, version 3.3*

I live in the UK so a print subscription doesn’t really work for me. The digital subscription through this app is well worth the cost - it’s introduced me to some wonderful poets I haven’t met before, and thoughtful essays on the art of poetry.

### 5/5 — Outstanding App

*2025-06-22, version 3.3*

Excellent visuals, easy to read, everything relevant and important about reading the publication is duplicated online. The download was quick and easy. Clarity and quality allows the poetry reader to focus on the content which is without peer.
The free version allows access to many of the back issues (not all). The annual subscription is relatively cheap (£29/year at the writing of this review).
I’m recommending it to all my fellow poets and those who would like to have more poetry in their lives.

### 5/5 — Love

*2025-05-31, version 3.3*

Love this magazine. Love this app. ❤️swoon❤️.

### 5/5 — great app

*2025-04-22, version 3.2*

great app. great poetry.

### 5/5 — Learning without end.

*2024-09-04, version 3.2*

I have read poetry for eight decades but in the past ten years I am finally learning poetry thanks to Poetry.

I flipped open essays this morning and discovered a delightful discussion of Chaucer that will prompt me to re-explore the Canterbury Tales with much better understanding.

Don’t change and never forget most of your support is from silent but very ardent appreciators. Thank you for being.

### 5/5 — Great

*2024-02-21, version 3.2*

best poetry app

### 5/5 — I’m not sure what

*2023-07-24*

I’m going back yin
