## What is Point Cloud & BIM Viewer?

Point Cloud & BIM Viewer opens laser scans and BIM models on your Mac, iPad and iPhone — measure them, cut sections, see where the building differs from the design, and export the results. Everything stays on the device: no account, no upload.

A sample project with a guide shows where everything is.

FORMATS
• E57 with registered scan setups, colour, intensity and spherical photographs
• LAS and LAZ 1.0 to 1.4, with colour, intensity and classification; COPC opens as the LAZ it is
• PLY, ASCII and binary; PTS and PTX; XYZ and TXT with intensity or RGB columns
• IFC models, also zipped or gzipped; USDZ, USD, OBJ, STL, glTF and GLB
• DXF floor plans laid under the scan, with the drawing's layers to switch off
• A whole job at once: several files, a folder or a zip become one project

Import never modifies the original; a scan of a hundred million points imports in tens of megabytes.

EVERYTHING IN ONE PROJECT
The side panel lists what a project holds: the cloud and each of its scans, every model file and floor plan, and saved cuts. Show, hide, colour and look at each on its own — colour every scan setup to check the registration. Add scans later, show several model files together, send a project by AirDrop.

THE SCAN AGAINST THE MODEL
• Every point coloured by its distance to the model, with a tolerance you set
• Which elements the scan shows as built, which are missing, and where it never went
• The elements built out of tolerance, listed
• Place a model by pairs of corners, by the walls in the scan, or where its georeference says
• Measure from the scan to a surface of the model

SCAN WITH LIDAR
On an iPhone or iPad with LiDAR, scan a room into a project, fit it to the other scans, and continue later. For orientation, not millimetres.

THE PROJECT IN AR
On iPhone and iPad, stand the project on a table, or at 1:1 in the building itself by a few shared points, with a scan's panorama over the walls.

ON THE MAP
Coordinates read as a surveyor writes them: S-JTSK Y and X, or E and N in the system the file or the IFC georeference names. Keep points by them, see the project on a map with an aerial view under the scan, or place it by hand. The map loads from Apple Maps only when switched on.

THE MODEL
Browse elements by storey, class or file and find them by name, class, GlobalId or property. Select them in the view or by rectangle, colour and group them. Read every property, inherited ones too. Check a model against IDS: what fails is listed, and each failure can become a note.

MEASURE
• Distance with its horizontal and vertical parts, and height straight up
• Face to face: wall thickness, clear width, clear height
• The shortest distance between two elements, or from an element to the scan
• Polylines, angles and best-fit areas
• Notes anchored to a point or an element
• Every pick is verified against the cloud at full resolution; an uncertain one is refused
• Metric or imperial units

SECTIONS AND ROOMS
A box you move, turn and reshape by dragging, a plane or a slice. Where a cut crosses the model, its solids are hatched and outlined. Save a cut with its view under a name and return to it.

SEEING THE SCAN
RGB, intensity, classification, a heatmap, or elevation over the whole scan or a band of a few centimetres. A grid, views from all six sides, and panoramas from the scanner's position.

ISSUES IN BCF
Notes leave as BCF topics with a viewpoint and the element they are on; BCF files from other tools open as notes.

EXPORT
The cloud or a single scan as E57 with panoramas, LAS, PLY or XYZ; a section as LAS; CSV, JSON with sections, BCF, a PNG snapshot.

FREE AND PRO
Free with one project; Pro removes the limit for a single payment, no subscription. Projects you have stay open either way.

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO
Point data is not edited, and tripod scans are registered in the scanner's software. Clouds in two different coordinate systems are not brought into one. Models you open are read, never modified.

### 1.8.1 — 2026-10-12

ON THE MAP
• Coordinates read as a surveyor writes them: S-JTSK Y, X and H, or E, N and H in any system a LAS, E57 or IFC file names. S-JTSK is recognised from the numbers too, and the app says so
• Keep a point's coordinates from Measure › Point coordinates or the menu on a point; the CSV export adds S-JTSK and latitude and longitude
• The Map button at the top shows the project on Apple Maps, aerial or drawn: its outline, the camera, kept points and notes. Tap the map to move the camera
• Lay the map under the scan: an aerial view on the ground in 3D, with the surroundings kilometres out, so zoomed out you see where the project is. Raise it so piles and basements go under the ground
• A project without coordinates, such as a phone's LiDAR scan, is placed by hand: slide and turn the map under its outline. Or name the system its numbers are in by EPSG code
• An IFC model's georeference puts the project on the map by itself, models alone or a scan with its model
• Aerial or Map, beside the tools, switches both the panel's map and the one under the scan
• The map loads from Apple Maps only after you allow it, and can be switched off again. The Apple Maps and Mapy.com buttons open the place in another app

IMPROVED
• A project reopens as you left it: hidden elements stay hidden, and the map comes back where it was open
• Undo and Redo in the project menu reverse hiding and showing elements and changes to saved cuts
• A saved cut being edited offers Save changes, Save as new or Cancel edits, and replacing an unsaved cut asks first. Disable cut shows the whole project without deleting saved cuts
• Point size and model opacity in a panel beside Display that stays open while you move around
• A new group says so and opens with one tap; hidden elements are counted, with Show everything beside
• On iPhone and iPad, hold a toolbar button to see its name
• Account › Restore the sample project adds a fresh copy
• A long project name is shortened instead of pushing the controls aside

### 1.7 — 2026-10-10

THE PROJECT IN THE ROOM, IN AR
On iPhone and iPad, the AR button at the top right puts the project — scan and model — into the camera's picture.
• Stand it on a table: tap a surface to place it, drag to move, pinch to resize, twist to turn, and walk around it
• Life size in one press, or place it again somewhere else
• Stand it at 1:1 where it was built: tap a point of the project, aim the cross at the same point in the room and mark it. Two pairs place it, every further pair makes it more exact, and the app says how closely they agree
• Lay a scan's panorama over the room, as see-through as you like: it falls on the walls it shows wherever you stand, and a marker shows where it was taken
• The usual tools work over the camera too: layers and point size, measuring, cuts, selection, notes and analysis

EXPORT A POINT CLOUD
Export the whole cloud, or a single scan, as E57, LAS, PLY or XYZ, then save the file on the device or share it, by AirDrop for instance. It works for imported clouds and for your own LiDAR scans alike.
• E57 keeps colour, intensity and every scan with its position and scanner, and can take the scans' panoramas along
• LAS keeps colour, intensity and classification; PLY keeps colour; XYZ holds coordinates only
• With a cut in use, choose the whole cloud or only what the cut shows
• Otherwise every stored point is exported, hidden ones too, in metres with Z up
• A cloud imported at reduced quality says so first: its original points are no longer in the project

FIXED
• On iPhone and iPad, saving a view snapshot (PNG), notes as BCF and measurements as CSV or JSON did nothing; each now asks where to save the file again

### 1.6.1 — 2026-10-03

SCAN WITH LIDAR
On an iPhone or iPad with LiDAR, scan a room yourself. The camera shows what has been captured, and the scan becomes a project of its own or one more scan of the open one: a room to compare with the model, or a corner the tripod scanner missed. It is for orientation, not for millimetres, and the app says so before the first scan.
• A larger room in one scan: how many points it holds follows the device's memory, up to 30 million
• Put a scan in its place against the others: two or three corners they share, and their walls pull it the rest of the way
• Go on where the last scan left off: the device finds the room again, shows the project's points in the camera so you see what is still missing, and the new scan joins the project in its place

SHARE A PROJECT
• Share a whole project — scans, models, notes — from the gallery or the project's menu, by AirDrop to a Mac, an iPad or an iPhone
• A project opened from Downloads or a cloud can be copied or moved into your projects

### 1.6 — 2026-10-02

A NEW LAYOUT
The app opens on a gallery of your projects, with a sample project to try everything on. In a project every control has one place: the view bar at the top (axonometry or perspective, the six sides, point size, cloud and model), the tools down the left (measure, cut, select, note, analysis), Display bottom left, and the side panel on the right with the scene, the saved cuts and the measurements. The cut in use is named under the bar, with the way back to the whole project.

FINDING YOUR WAY
• A quick tour, or a full guide through every tool, on the sample project
• Controls & help behind a ? in every project, with a link to a searchable handbook of every feature on the web
• Hover over a button with Apple Pencil to see its name, as holding it does

WORKING
• Lengths in inches, feet, or feet and inches, with areas and volumes to match
• A project reopens as it was left: camera, cut and panels
• One way of drawing for every project, if you want it
• Measurements in a floating list, and deleted all at once
• The deviation legend floats: drag it aside or fold it away
• Larger grips for a finger, and Done top right while a box or a model is being adjusted
• A cutting plane: placed square to a surface or across X, Y or Z, slid along its arrow and turned on its rings, with up to six cutting at once
• Choose which controls lie around the view; anything put away still opens from the menu under the project's name
• A menu on empty space too: fit the project, show everything hidden, the cloud and the model on and off
• Drag scans and models onto the gallery to make a project, or onto a project to add them

FASTER
• Twice as many points held in the same memory, and more of them on screen at the same frame rate
• Maximum detail is drawn up to a third faster, keeps its frame rate as the device warms, and fills in sooner after the view moves
• A big scan imports several times faster, on every core; an iPad stays awake while it does

AND
• Feedback from the projects gallery; a filled-in questionnaire earns a code for Pro
• Redeem a code inside the app
• The status bar is hidden to give the view more room; switch it back on in Account
