It works exactly as described, and the developer has been active online to gather feedback to improve this already great tool. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 2/5 — It’s okay *2024-04-14* Having to go through forum posts from a couple years ago to find a screenshot of the part of the manual I needed to see makes for a bad experience. It seems the manual page has been a 404 for a long time. ### 3/5 — DAW notwendig *2026-08-14* Da ich Cykle sehr mag habe ich mir Polybeat auch gekauft. Durch die Formulierung „…or Connect it to your Hardware.“ wird nicht deutlich, dass eine DAW zwingend notwendig ist. Kostenlose DAWs wie Garage Band erkennen Polybeat überhaupt nicht. So wäre eine kostenpflichtige die Alternative. Die Formulierung sollte geändert werden. ### 3/5 — Crashes constantly *2024-01-14* This app is functionally pretty cool except for the fact that it constantly crashes when hosted in AUM, making it useless for live performance. It also lacks a way to change patterns through external midi control. Fortunately I’ve found Rozeta Sequencer Suite gets both those birds stoned without any issues. Wish I would have known before spending money on this one though. ### 3/5 — crashes all the time *2022-05-21* Gave this app a long time to get into my workflow but a constantly crashing app, no matter how good while working, is useless. please guys. you know how to do. **Developer response:** I’m sorry to hear you’re having problems with polybeat. I’m not seeing any crash reports, are you able to reproduce the crashes under specific circumstances and, if so, would you be willing to send an e-mail to cdriesprong@gmail.com describing how to reproduce the crash so I can diagnose the problem? thanks in advance. ### 4/5 — Good but *2024-02-08* Great sequencer, but in AUM, if I extend past 16 beats, it clips the sound on beat 17 every single time (using both FAC Drumkit and Koala). Would be great to have a couple more assignable CCs as well. Otherwise perfect. ### 4/5 — A joy to use, but…… *2022-12-19, version 1.2.1* Ratcheting is only static. Like the GR-16 and others where ratcheting can be increased and decreased in velocity with multiple probabilities which gives more expression to drum programming, this feature right now does not exist in Polybeat. I say right now as I hope a future update will include this feature. Apart from that, it is a joy to use. Keep the apps maps coming. ### 5/5 — An amazing polyrhythmic sequencer *2024-04-30* This sequencer is amazing! Easy to use, and very reliable. The ability to change individual step lengths in a drum lane is outstanding. The interface is easy on the eyes and great to look at. My only concern noticing that the last update was a year ago is hoping this app will continue to work well into the future with updates. It’s both fun to use and usefully functional. Polybeat comes with midi mapping for a number of popular drum apps, and so it’s possible to easily get some unique combinations going. AUM of Loopy Pro are both a good fit for Polybeat. Alas, as the time of writing, there is no mapping for DrumPerfect Pro. That app is suppose to work with General Midi input, but doesn’t. ## Most praised reviews (6 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Pairs well with Klevgrand Ting *2021-12-06* Great, easy to use sequencer with useful randomization options. The ability to do polyrhythms adds a lot to some more subtle drum machines like Ting and Ruismaker FM. Great UI, solid reliability, but the musical results are the main attraction! ### 5/5 — A pleasure to use *2021-11-13, version 1.1.2* This is a great tool for quickly making patterns, I have loads of tools that can do the same job and some are much more advanced and expensive but still I find myself going to this app. Is easy to use and clear to see whats going on. It would be nice if multiple custom midi maps could be saved as user midi maps so you could have multiple user custom midi maps, it’s not uncommon to want use/try the same patterns with different apps/kit. Being able to toggle or resize the lower controller field so you can see all the pattens/channels at once would also be very handy. Also an option to enable tapping the channel on the left to trigger it would be great for freestyling before adding to the pattern. This is already a very capable app thats really nice to use and before you know it you’ll be making loads of fun and interesting patterns so do yourself a favour and download it, it’s great fun and pleasurable to use 😀 ### 5/5 — Nice app *2021-11-09* Changed my review from 1 to 5 star due to some issues getting it to show in my various daws but was able to clear it up after a few restarts and a reinstall. The dev was quick to reach out and resolve my issue thanks and now the website is working for support too. Rev. 11/8/21 Loving the new templates keep em coming and thanks for the hard work! ### 5/5 — Love it *2021-10-13* As someone who really enjoys experimenting with polyrhythm's, polybeat really does it for me. I use thesys a lot for polyrhythms but it does not run on iPhone. So far polybeat does mostly everything thesys does for beats… minus a few bells and whistles. I would recommend polybeat. **Developer response:** i'm sorry you've been experiencing problems with polybeat. in the latest version (1.1) the Cubasis issue should be resolved. ### 5/5 — The Best Drum Sequencer *2021-10-13, version 1.1* Updated review: The developer added velocity modulation and a Beathawk MIDI preset in an update. I’ve now given this app 5 stars, which it absolutely deserves.
