### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2022-01-03, version 3.2.2*

Also purchased from b&q to cover my house though won’t connect to wifi saying needs to be reset. Bought 20 packs costing way too much and now can’t utilise the app. App needs to be fixed otherwise don’t bother with the smart lights

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2021-12-18, version 3.2.2*

Bought from B&Q - as other reviewer say, keeps asking to IOT WiFi not found & reset device but can’t reset so therefore doesn’t work. Troubleshooting or support is non-existent

### 1/5 — Yep doesn’t work :-(

*2021-12-11, version 3.2.2*

Says reset device ??

### 1/5 — Does not work

*2021-12-05, version 3.2.2*

Exactly that - keeps saying reset device which does nothing. Useless

### 1/5 — Worst smart accessory

*2021-12-04, version 3.2.2*

Super cumbersome to make the tree a “smart tree”. Easier to push the bottom on the tree switch. You have to use their app to setup in Google home and Google Assistant but only works in Google assistant and after speaking a command and then speaking what you want it to do. No shortcuts.

### 1/5 — Rubbish

*2021-12-04, version 3.2.2*

Absolute rubbish does don’t work with Alexa properly. Took light back.

### 1/5 — Wish I had zero stars

*2021-12-04, version 3.2.2*

I am a software engineer and I couldn’t get this working. Don’t waste your time.

### 1/5 — Unable to connect app to smart tree

*2021-11-28, version 3.2.2*

After about 15 tries and several different error messages and still not being able to connect my tree to the app I gave up.

### 1/5 — Polygroup App is terrible

*2021-11-27, version 3.2.2*

Took several attempts to connect wifi
Customer service experience was poor
Would not stay connected

### 1/5 — Not working and no instructions included

*2021-11-26, version 3.2.2*

Trying to find a post with the instructions everyone mentions but no luck and Lowe’s is USELESS for assistance🤬 save your money and don’t buy this JUNK Tree or App!

### 1/5 — Wasted time

*2021-11-22, version 3.2.2*

App won’t do anything at all ! Will not consider the developers of this app in anything their associated with or any company the work with. Crappy developers and support of the app. Amateurs evidently

### 1/5 — Can’t find WiFi and no help

*2021-11-08, version 3.2.2*

Nice tree but can’t control the tree with the app. Using a smart plug so it turns on and off.
Thought I would be able to do that with the app. Also thought the lights would have more color choices. Basically it’s a nice warm white and multi colored then combinations of flash or dim. Thought we’d get solid colors too.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2020-12-14, version 3.2.2*

Poor quality app and doesn’t stay connected. Very disappointed in this product.

### 1/5 — Total fail

*2020-12-12, version 3.2.2*

Careful went through all the steps. Our phones showed we were connected, but nothing happened when we gave commands. We used Alexa

### 1/5 — Worthless

*2020-12-08, version 3.2.2*

Don’t bother. Just press the button on the cord.

### 1/5 — App not worth it

*2020-12-07, version 3.2.2*

I’ve reset my router/wi-fi several times, delete and reinstall this app several times, only for it to tell me my wi-fi cannot be found and needs to be restarted. Waste of time.

### 1/5 — Horrible app

*2020-12-06, version 3.2.2*

If I could give this app a zero I would. This app does nothing but add the tree to your homes WiFi. It doesn’t control the tree at all. So you have to use either Alexa or Google home to control this tree. I don’t understand why the app isn’t designed to control the tree as well, what a waist.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Needs updating

*2025-11-29, version 3.3.0*

Does not work well with Amazon Alexa skills. Not recognized as a device but instead you have to access skills to control with Alexa. Would prefer the app and tree being a device.

### 1/5 — Polygroup DUMB products

*2024-11-13, version 3.3.0*

Does not work. Trash.

### 1/5 — Unsupported app

*2023-12-10, version 3.2.2*

Why is this app even still in the App Store? It hasn't been updated in 3 years! It doesn't work. My "smart" tree is only a year old and the app has never worked for me. Sadly, there's no way to know about the app until after you've bought the tree.

### 1/5 — Terrible App

*2023-12-05, version 3.2.2*

I would give this zero stars if I could! Followed the instructions as stated to get connected with no success. Waste of time! ID doesn’t show up in WiFi selection, network settings only says failed and doesn’t do anything else. Deleting the app and reinstalling it did nothing.

### 1/5 — App doesn’t work! Don’t waste time!

*2023-12-02, version 3.2.2*

Agree with first review I saw- app button doesn’t even work to just began with the set up. You can’t use the Alexa either to connect the tree!

### 1/5 — Junk

*2023-12-01, version 3.2.2*

App does not work. Period.

### 1/5 — Poorly designed app

*2023-11-26, version 3.2.2*

This app does not work - poorly designed and not supported. Do not waste your time, as I have, trying to set this up.

### 1/5 — Fix the app please

*2022-11-23, version 3.2.2*

So me and my parents download it and I won't work. I reset my phone and nothing. It's a waste of time. This is a bad app don't waste your time on this app! No wonder it has 1.5 stars! Waste of time bad app

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2022-11-18, version 3.2.2*

Doesn’t work don’t wast your time and return your product.

### 1/5 — Dumb

*2022-11-05, version 3.2.2*

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 4/5 — Wi-Fi trick

*2021-12-01, version 3.2.2*

The most beautiful tree I’ve ever seen but it seems hard to connect to Alexa open your Wi-Fi connection on your phone and make sure you login to the Christmas tree then you’ll be able to go onto their app and register your tree do you won’t find it on Alexa even after it’s working I’m not sure why and don’t forget to say tell smart tree otherwise it doesn’t work either Hope this helps

### 4/5 — Read Instructions with tree!

*2020-12-02, version 3.2.2*

I was having the same issues as everyone else. Then I saw someone post the instructions that are included with the tree in the more recent reviews. Now everything works fine and I feel silly for not reading the full instructions. Oops lol

### 4/5 — FIND INSTRUCTIONAL REVIEW

*2020-12-01, version 3.2.2*

I found a review by someone and it helped me all the way through. When you get to the Alexa app process the instructions cut off in a way...carrying on from their review, you have to go to Skills and Games in the Alexa App and then search “Polygroup” and it should be the first thing to pop up with a green tree in the logo. After pressing launch Alexa should start talking about it being your first time using the “Polygroup Start Tree...” Have a good night and Merry Christmas!!

### 4/5 — Poor quality finally got it to work

*2020-11-24, version 3.2.2*

App works and it says it has completed all processing to get the tree connected to you WiFi. However, it does non of the listed stages of connection with the lights of the tree flashing. Technical support couldn't do anything not even tell me how to rest the tree. Followed the directions closely but with no success. Tries older version of IOS and Android. Nothing will work correctly. Tree looks amazing and lights are great. But now I have to climb behind the tree to switch the colors when I could have bought a tree with a remote. Don't but for the features unless this company can come around and provide an app that works.

Update 11/23
After a million attempts I finally got it to work. There is no flashing of lights when you connect to the trees stand alone WiFi. This whole time when you connect to the tree it just does that. It provides a bridge from your phone to the tree. I have tried countless ways to get it to connect to my WiFi mesh router. There have been other issues in the past connecting to a mesh router because it delivers 2.5 and 5ghz. The problem is that it is unable to connect to a stand alone signal with my WiFi mesh router. I needed to create a specific 2.5 dedicated signal from my router and then... connect it to that signal only. When it finished it started to flash instantly and then it allowed me to register. Maybe it was dumb luck I'm not sure. But all I know is it is now connected to WiFi and Alexa can control it.

11/25
One additional thing to note. I reset the device to make sure it worked and it did. Has to be 2.5ghz for it to work. Once you setup the network for the tree if it doesn't automatically revert back to your network. You will have to manually connect. You have to register it on the next step or it won't work with Alexa.
Good luck!

### 4/5 — Not the best user experience but it works

*2020-11-06, version 3.2.1*

The user experience for registering the tree, connecting via WiFi, connecting to Amazon Alexa and making it work is far from ideal. But if you carefully follow the directions it does work. Just dig out the paper directions in the box, meticulously follow them and do nothing else. It’s not all that impressive but it does allow you to use Alexa to turn tree on or off and switch between its modes.

### 3/5 — Really pretty tree. Frustrating to Set up. Follow instructions to a T.

*2020-12-14, version 3.2.2*

This was really frustrating to figure out. The tree is gorgeous. I honestly bought it because it had the number of points I wanted and lights i wanted. The smart options were just a bonus. That said, getting the smart options set up was really frustrating. I found the advice on here from another reviewer and figured it was worth it to bring it back to the top of these reviews. If it had not been for this utter reviewer posting this, I still wouldn’t have it figured it out. I can’t take credit for these instructions but they are quite helpful. I have tweaked them a bit...

1- Download the Polygroup app. That’s it for now. Don’t even bother opening it YET

2- go to your DEVICE Wi-Fi settings. Allow your device to populate with ALL Wi-Fi options.

3- find your “trees” WiFi. Should be the “ST-xxxxxxx”. Then select this Wi-Fi and enter the password. Both the Wi-Fi name and the password can be found on the white tag that is right next to the plug. It is the white paper tag wrapped around the cord next to the plug.

4- now go to the “Polygroup” app. Go to “network settings” and connect YOUR home WiFi and continue all instructions to the end.

5- then, still in the Polygroup, do the register device setup all the way to the end. Note, The email address you use needs to be the same email address for your Amazon account if you are connecting it with an Amazon echo device. You’re now done with Polygroup.

6- now set up your Amazon or Google device. I have an Amazon Alexa so in the Amazon Alexa app, go to “skills” search for “Polygroup smart tree”. Click on the top option, click launch. This will connect Alexa to the tree.

7- give it a try. You can say, “Alexa, tell smart tree to color change.” I did have a little frustration in the beginning when I said, “Alexa, turn off smart tree.” It acted like I had never connected it. I had to change the verbiage to include the word “tell” smart tree to do...

8- unfortunately there is no option to tell Alexa to turn on the Smart tree at 6 PM and turn it off at midnight. That would be a really nice feature if it were possible.

I hope this helps!

### 3/5 — It works, if you follow the directions EXACTLY!

*2020-12-03, version 3.2.2*

It works, gave it 3 stars because there’s no TIMER function on it, which is probably the most convenient for a Christmas Tree! Add a timer and I’ll give it 5 stars!!

As for setting it up: Don’t try to “figure it out” without reading the instructions EXACTLY. I had the same problem most had with the “Polygroup” app telling me it couldn’t connect and to reset the tree. I’ll give you step by step instructions to help those who couldn’t get it.

1: Download Polygroup App. That’s it for now, don’t even bother opening it YET!!
2: Go to you DEVICE WiFi settings. Allow your device to populate with ALL available WiFis.
3: Find your “Trees” WiFi. Should be “ST-xxxxx” Then select this WiFi and enter the password. Both the name of the tree WiFi and password are on the tag by the tree plug.
4: NOW go to the Polygroup App. Go to “Network Settings” and connect to YOUR HOME WiFi and continue all instructions to the end.
5: Then, still in Polygroup, do the “Register Device” setup all the way to the end. You’re now DONE with PolyGroup.
6: Now setup Alexa or Google or whatever you’re using. I have Alexa, so you have to go to “skills” and search for “Polygroup SmartTree.” This will connect Alexa to the tree.
7: Give it a try; “Alexa, smart tree to color change” or Alexa, smart tree off.”
7a: Unfortunately there is no, “Alexa, set timer for smart tree to turn on at 5pm and off at 12 am” I don’t know why they didn’t add that option and that’s why I gave it 3 stars.
If it had a timer, I’d give it 5 stars.
Basically all Alexa can do is turn it on and off or change the color scheme, which is easier to just do with the switch in my opinion.

Hope this helps everyone who couldn’t connect. Once I realized what I was doing wrong, it took 5 min to setup. Good luck!!

### 3/5 — Works for me

*2020-12-03, version 3.2.2*

Just got my tree in today. The only reason it took me a while to set up is because I couldn’t figure out what the Wi-Fi password was for the tree (wasn’t mentioned in the instructions). Another user’s review told me where to look, near the plug. Once I found that, I followed the directions and everything worked exactly as the instructions said it would. Now I can control the tree with Google Assistant no problem. I didn’t even buy the tree for this feature - didn’t even know it had it! Cool surprise.
Three stars because you have to use three apps to get it to work (Poly Group, Google Home, and Google Assistant). Would’ve preferred if only polygroups app was needed.

### 3/5 — App worked for me...

*2020-11-29, version 3.2.2*

Try this: (also in instructions that must be read) From start up, plug in tree, wait five seconds. Go to WiFi settings and choose ST-xxxx and enter password on control module of plug and then go to this app and click network settings allow your location and then it’ll come up with your home WiFi settings, punch in that info and then it’ll say network settings complete and your tree should flash five times. Then go register, make sure your email matches your Amazon Alexa (idk about Google) account or else it will not work. Then go to Amazon Alexa and make sure you’ve enabled the skills for the Polygroup smart tree and if so, try to say a skill as listed in instructions. Took me a couple tries but once I figured it out it was simple. Good luck!

### 2/5 — problems connecting to WiFi

*2021-01-05, version 3.2.2*

Followed instructions problems arose around WiFi and could not fix. Didn’t want another customer service call due to the first call. My choice. I will use a smart plug to connect to Alexa. But I payed for that to already be available. The tree it’s is a pretty good tree but too expensive if it does fully work and I think it is the Polygroup smart app that needs to be better / fixed / upgraded. Move your user rating age up, 4 year olds will not be able to set this tree up.
