The map feature was terrible. Trying to do something simple like look up a point of interest was impossible because it wouldn’t load properly. Complete waste of money unfortunately. ### 1/5 — Buggy, doesn’t work on iPhone 7plus *2018-09-30, version 3.1* It keeps on restarting, just wasted £5 ### 2/5 — Impossible to use *2018-08-14* The map glitches and can’t determine your location well (while google maps have no problems with that at all), the app keeps loading images even after the initial preloading which is really bad if you’re in roaming. The guides are ok, but with this usability they’re obsolete. **Developer response:** Dear customer we are sorry for Your experience. Can You tell somthing more about? Iphone model, ios version? We work hard every day to improve our app, please help us to do it better. ### 1/5 — Waste of time *2018-08-13, version 3.1* This app does NOT work!! Why the idea is good, I started off with audio guides that only partially played. Redownloaded them to no prevail. Delegates and readded the app and the audio worked, but the app kept freezing or crashing. Opening again meant I had to setup the entire tour again. Ruined my trip to Pompei as I didn’t hire and audio guide. Disappointing. If you’re going to sell this app at a cost, at least make it work. ### 1/5 — Big let down *2018-07-21, version 2.8* Was excited at first but after 5 mins in the app realized it wasn’t very useful. With the preloaded itineraries it shows u a map and the POIs (points of interest) name only. U can’t click on it to see the info about it. Instead I have to search from e the POI separately then read/listen to it. U also can’t enter your favourite POIs to create ur own itinerary. Disappointed as these should be basic features. ### 1/5 — Do not install this app *2018-07-08, version 2.6* This app crashes constantly, the route section does not work and it consumes an enormous amount of battery ... will be seeking a refund. ### 1/5 — Disappointing *2018-07-08* Doesn’t work for routes. When I click on route it just jumps out of the app to the phone home screen. So disappointing as I wanted this app to plan my trip route to see the important sites during my short trip as it was advertised in the App Store. ### 2/5 — GPS didn’t work *2018-07-07* Tried to use the app while in Pompei but the GPS feature would only work for about 20 seconds and then would stop updating. Kept restarting the app and sometimes it would work for a short period but would ultimately stop updating my location. Google Maps had no problem with my location during my visit so I know it wasn’t my phone, but the app that wasn’t working right. The insight on the various locations in Pompei was ok, but wouldn’t download it again. Eventually gave up on trying to get the app to work while there. ### 1/5 — Disappointed *2017-11-06* I did a fair amount of research before our trip and the consensus seemed to be that this was the best app, so I paid for it. Then we get to Pompeii and it says that the app needs to be updated for iOS 11. So I was completely unable to use this and would like my money back. ### 1/5 — Don't waste your money *2017-10-08, version 2.2* Terrible. Didn't work at all. I don't think this app has been kept up-to-date as Apple has updated the OS. Offline map didn't load properly and was blurred. GPS didn't work at all. Fortunately we realised the app didn't really work before we entered the gates so paid €8 for the audio guide once we were there - take a pair of earphones and this is your best and most reliable way of getting a good cheap guide. ### 1/5 — Text to speech??? *2017-10-05* Paid for the app thinking it would be a great way to walk the sites and listen to audio guide. I don't want to look at my phone screen to read, I'm in Pompei! Terrible text to speech sounds like a sad robot. ### 1/5 — Warning- this app will ruin your visit. *2017-05-27, version 2.2* The GPS feature fails. The app flattens your battery and ends your picture taking. The 'guide' is a robot voice that reads out the text. It omits many of the more interesting buildings and the map cannot be followed to the point that it is not possible to use the app anyway- you are permanently lost. Use the money to buy something you will value. ### 1/5 — Terrible App *2017-05-17* Do not download this app. It is a waste of money. You are better off using the free map and informational guide available at Pompeii. ### 1/5 — Rubbish doesn't work on site *2017-04-05, version 2.2* Rubbish, didn't work, left us in Pompeii with no map/guidance. Don't bother ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Can be optimized *2024-05-06* The app consummed 25 % of battery with few uses. The POI disapear on the map when you zoom. The POI are not all on the map … hard to use when you want to do a free visit without following a circuit. ### 1/5 — Awful *2023-05-17, version 9.3* This app is awful and a total waste of money. The audio recordings play for around 30-60s and then cut out, there is no way to them make them work. The 2hr tour is actually about 45mins and is very short; the map is hard to navigate and you can’t easily move it around. Used for around 10minutes then gave up and went with an app from another company. ### 1/5 — Do not buy *2022-10-18* Had to reinstall three times. Downloaded everything. Still doesn’t work. **Developer response:** new version is available, we are sorry for this problems ### 1/5 — Completely useless app *2022-10-05, version 8.2* Crashed the first time I tried to open it while in Pompeii and repeatedly crashed through the day. Appears to need wifi or data to function, neither of which were accessible at Pompeii. Don’t waste your money on this. ### 1/5 — Ruined my visit. *2022-06-10, version 8.2* This app ruined my visit because I blindly downloaded and paid for it without reading previous reviews! It kept freezing half way through and I had to go back all the way to the entry to hire out an audio guide but at that point the audio guides were sold out. Wouldn’t even give it 1 star. ### 1/5 — Dont get this App *2022-06-03* Waste of money, I set it up before leaving and when I arrived at pompei it kept crashing. Ended up getting an audioguide in place for 8€ which pretty much did the same job the app was designed for and if you have issues you can always exchange it in place something you cannot do with the App. Don't waste your money on this app. ### 1/5 — Don’t Bother *2019-08-23* I downloaded multiple times and audio/imagery wasn’t fully loaded. Stop halfway. Map freezes and slow to move. Too bad. **Developer response:** We are sorry for that, but this problem is caused by a bad data connection to download the media. ### 1/5 — How disappointing *2019-07-05, version 6.0* Was all ready to go with this app but it did not work. This should be removed from the App Store with immediate effect. ### 1/5 — Do not download this app *2019-06-05* This app was an absolute waste of money. Most of the audio and all of the images did not download. The app kept crashing and rebooting. **Developer response:** Dear customer, we are sorry for your problem, but we don't have other problems on this app. Can you describe in detail ? Full of useful information and super easy to use! If you are going and don’t have a guide, get this! **Developer response:** Thank YOu for your feedback. ### 5/5 — Definitely worth it, download before you go! *2015-09-17, version 2.2* Much better than the 5 euro audio tours you need to leave your passport for, download on wifi before you go as its over 100mb . Wish I'd known before as you can pick and choose what to see as you go, don't trust the maps as so much is under renovation you never know which roads and buildings are open, many were shut when we went in August 2015. Pictures really help and the info is limited but good as unless you go for 2 days and are extremely fit its hard to walk the entire town. Definitely recommended for the money ### 5/5 — Pompeii App *2014-04-16* This is a beautiful app. The digital photography is stunning. They also have a presence on Twitter, with access to additional spectacular photography. ### 4/5 — Useful GPS enabled App for finding your way around Pompeii. Good effort, well worth the money. *2013-08-08, version 2.0* Useful GPS enabled map for finding your way around Pompeii. Short commentaries on 64 buildings with modern photos and pictures simulating how it may have been. Also a brief history of Pomeii and a glossary of Roman terms like Tepiderium, Calderium etc. This review was made prior to version 2, which has an augmented reality feature. Could do with coverage of more buildings. There are 84 in the official map that you can get when you buy your entrance ticket. For instance the Castellum Aquae (aqueduct cistern) and the Doric Temple (originally of Hercules) are missing. However, good effort, well worth the money. Thank you Kreisa.it. ### 3/5 — Battery Died Fast *2024-11-23, version 10.1* I liked the app, the map, and the audio. BUT it killed my battery. After two hours, I was reduced to 10%, then I had to shut it down. We were left wandering around in Pompeii. ### 3/5 — Missing the 2 and 3 hour tours *2020-07-03* False advertising, this is why we bought the app **Developer response:** We are sorry, but the tour of 2 and 3 hours are closed now due the covid problems and our APP shows only the official paths possible in this period. ### 3/5 — Helpful but needs work *2017-06-11, version 2.2* Downloaded the app as I wanted to see Pompeii at my own pace rather than walking with a tour. The app has some helpful audio and uses a map to locate landmarks but has no recommended navigation path for those with internet. This could have saved hours as some of the area is heavily congested and trying to workout where exactly to go and which exactly it was turned out to be a little frustrating. If you're stuck for time then just pay the 12€+ 13€ for a guide which will take 2 and half hours. If you have a day then this app is a cheap alternative. ### 3/5 — Good companion in a Pompeii trip, with need for improvements *2015-02-13* The application is useful and the best solution so far for visiting Pompeii "solo" with an iPhone. But is far from perfect. Because it's 104MB size, you will not be able to download it with your cellphone data. If it was 4 MB you could. It's a developers shame to don't take this 4 MB away somehow. It took me a lot more time to download it in a Hotel Wifi than if I used my cellphone data. The voice is terrible, computerized. Developer could have recorded real voices for each text. The map could be improved, only offline mode map and satellite is a little bit too little. It could draw better your way in the offline mode when doing the personalized tours. Overall, the app is good and a must have in a Pompeii trip. But has a lot of room for improvement and cannot be used alone. Buy a paper book and paper map and go with all three in hand. ### 2/5 — Not a very good app or guide *2022-06-14* Map doesn’t work well, and the site numbers don’t line up as expected. Some sites are missing. The narrator seems to assume you are standing in a specific spot. Do not recommend. ### 2/5 — Mr *2019-06-17* This App did not work well for me. It kept lagging to the point that it was un-usable at the site. I had downloaded the info before so that I could use it offline. I suspect I should have put my phone on plane mode while at the site.
