## What is Pompeii?

Stand in front of a 2,000-year-old house and hear exactly what it was — right where you're standing.

Seventy-three stops in Pompeii, told out loud, working entirely offline.

Inside the excavations there is barely any signal and barely any signage. This guide is downloaded before the trip and then needs nothing: no network, no roaming, no queue at the audio guide desk.

WALK WITHOUT DECIDING
Three ready routes, from one hour to three and a half. The time is measured, not guessed: it counts the real walking distance along the streets, the length of every recording, and the time you spend looking. Pick the one that fits the hours you actually have, and the guide leads you from stop to stop and counts down what is left.

WHAT YOU HEAR
The Forum, the House of the Faun, the Lupanar, the Great Theatre, the Villa of the Mysteries. And what came out of the ground in the last two years: the Black Room, the hall of the Dionysian mysteries, the bakery where slaves and donkeys turned the millstones. Guidebooks printed before 2024 do not have these.

NARRATED IN ENGLISH
Every story and the entire app are in English, start to finish.

TRY BEFORE YOU PAY
The introduction and four more stops are free, including the Forum and the Amphitheatre. Listen to them at home, before you decide.

The full guide is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. It stays on your phone.

Photographs come from Wikimedia Commons under free licences; the author and licence are shown under each one. This app is not affiliated with the Archaeological Park of Pompeii.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.5 — 2026-10-01

• A new walkthrough on first launch: it shows the app in action instead of handing out tips.
• Walking guidance: a turn banner, arrival time, buttons to open your navigator, and a note when you arrive.
• Routes from afar: you see the walking line to the start, then choose to listen from here or start on site. The route takes over when you arrive.
• Routes now run from 1 to the end: from the gate you entered, then from where you stand, without doubling back. The counter no longer jumps ahead ("6 of 12" at the start).
• Bottom panels, the mini-player included, swipe away to the left.
• Location access now lives in Settings, with a prompt before a route. Tapping Guide me mid-route asks whether to finish the current one.
• The stories in French, Italian, Portuguese and Chinese have been reworked, and search is better.

### 1.1.4 — 2026-09-23

The route bar used to show the distance to the next stop even when the route had not been built from the park, and printed thousands of kilometres. Now, when there is nowhere to walk from, the number is simply left out — and metres are labelled in the language you are listening in.

Search now works in Chinese and finds more in Italian, French and Portuguese: every stop has keywords of its own.

We also corrected the number of languages the guide says it speaks.

### 1.1.3 — 2026-09-15

### 1.1.1 — 2026-09-08

Small bug fixes and stability improvements. We also added crash and error reporting, so problems get caught and fixed faster.
