### 1/5 — Useless

*2025-03-17*

The app can be an absolute nightmare sometimes as it makes the timetable even more confusing and is not always updating properly. They should definitely work more on it.

### 1/5 — An insult to the user.

*2025-03-12*

How can so many public transport systems globally provide a seamless pre pay system that works and Nexus are still in the dsrk ages. The list of errors is staggering and the customer experience woefully out of date. Count yourself lucky if you've not had to endure the "close your journey" issue with your card. Amateur hour. Pitiful.

### 1/5 — Shambles

*2025-03-06, version 2.2.4*

Why does it have to be so hard to sign into an app? Why does it have to be so hard to sign up? The app is absolute garbage, it looks like an app that belongs on the first iPhone

### 1/5 — New real time useless

*2025-02-27*

Thought I was the only one. Apparently not. Very inaccessible to cram all platforms on one page in a third of the screen and remove manual refresh ability. The map itself serves no purpose. Used to work well when you could select platform. I don’t need to see trains to other destinations.

### 1/5 — Terrible.

*2025-02-26*

The app just continues to be a farce. It has been redesigned to make it look modern but it’s even worse. Just like the metro system itself it’s Unreliable, slow and outdated. Particularly frustrating when you are told to use it due to delays and it doesn’t even work. Imagine if this was in the south. There would be a national scandal but it’s the north so it doesn’t matter. Come on Nexus. DO BETTER!

### 1/5 — Useless. Literally useless.

*2025-02-25, version 2.2.2*

No NFC tickets.
Can’t buy tickets.
No digital Pop card.
Can’t even top-up a physical Pop card.
Useless.

### 2/5 — Timetable issues

*2025-02-20*

I’m not sure if it’s due to WiFi issues but repeatedly seeing trains on the app marked as 8 or 9 mins away arriving much faster… before we can get there! I’m currently on a metro that told me I still had 2 mins to get to the platform… Hopefully just glitches that will be resolved?

### 2/5 — Recent Changes

*2025-02-14*

The recent changes to add real time map tracking have not actually resulted in any improvements for the end user. All we really need to know is when the next metro is coming and be able to trust that information. Seeing the metro position on a large map that takes up most of the scene and blocks me from being able to see the list of upcoming trains has made the experience a lot worse. The map doesn’t add any information I don’t already know from the live arrival time, and now those are harder to get to!

I know this was added due to frequent requests from the public but I would urge you to rethink the implementation. Seeing the list of upcoming arrivals is the most important feature of this app. The original addition of live arrival times was good enough.

### 2/5 — Inaccurate live train times

*2025-02-12*

The live train times are frequently inaccurate. Today the app states that a train is 1 minute from Tynemouth station, but has just arrived in longbenton. This level of inaccuracy is incredibly frustrating.

### 1/5 — Dire

*2025-02-10*

Update your details and it says thanks they’re updated. You even get an email to confirm you’ve changed your details; but open the app and nothing has changed. Delete and reinstall makes zero difference. There’s no reaction to button touching and none of the menus flow or are intuitive. Everything takes an age to load and don’t what ever you do zoom in on the live train map. In short it’s awful. iOS 18.3

### 1/5 — Not complete

*2025-02-09*

Not offering a ticket option via the app... Many other services within Apple universe uses its closed system for NFC functionalities and yet Nexus is unable to bring digital tickets to thousands of users.
Complete piece of rubbish

### 1/5 — Used to be simple to navigate, new update is complicated and not easy to learn at all

*2025-02-07*

I dunno who decided the design of the pop app now but the last design was actually simple to navigate and worked. The journey planners gone out the window, when your typing it in on the link it provides it doesn’t come up with metro stations close by,comes up with every other Newcastle they have on the whole nexus network. Absolutely brilliant idea to make the app less accessible for passengers. The design in general is unappealing compared to the last one. It’s not like we didn’t have a tracker before. Why do we need to see the full map? Massive flawed design. Change it back to how it was before. I actually can’t read it anymore and it’s stressful to navigate. I’m 24!
Who came up with the horrible idea. Seems overkill but think about those who have learning difficulties. I don’t have any myself and im struggling to read the journey planner on the link. It’s coming up places outside the north east !

### 2/5 — Confusing- too much information

*2025-02-02*

Since update too much information on the screen. It would help if reintroduced ability to filter by platform. Especially difficult at Monument as all 4 platforms displayed, ordered by next train arrival rather than platform or destination

### 1/5 — New App

*2025-02-01, version 2.2.2*

Timings and positions of trains make no sense to the reality

### 1/5 — Regret updating

*2025-01-31*

The map is no help at all. Before I could see at glance the gaps in service and plan my journey accordingly, now this is not possible. The map takes up two thirds of the screen. The remaining one third contains trains in both directions which is confusing and wastes half of the space still available. There is no timetable screen any more and it’s not obvious if there is still a manual refresh button. I will stick to the previous version on other devices and regret updating it on my phone as there is no way to roll it back.

### 1/5 — Metro Apologies

*2025-01-30, version 2.2.1*

Each update brings new bugs, works about as well as the service.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Useless app

*2026-04-06*

I thought getting POP payg would save me money, but the app is useless to an iPhone user, so far as top ups, balance checks and tapping in and out is concerned.
iPhone is the most popular make in the world, surely POP should work without me carrying a physical card!
Why can’t I check my balance?
And why doesn’t it credit the moment I pay, instead of ‘maybe’ two days later?
And as for tracking trains, this is only mildly useful when the trains are off, or late. Which seems to be a lot of the time.
If car drivers, like me, are to be enticed onto public transport, there is a long way to go. I thought this new mayor was going to sort all this out. Had plenty of time now. No excuse for such a major transport network.

### 1/5 — Terrible, quirky!

*2026-03-07*

This is one of the worst apps I’ve ever used. Sometimes shows the top up button sometimes doesn’t sometimes the card works sometimes it doesn’t sometimes let you login sometimes doesn’t you get the gist?

### 1/5 — Poor at displaying correct times

*2025-12-02*

If this app’s primary aim is to provide accurate information on when a train is due at a station then it fails miserably. For example too often it will say train is due 10 minutes time only for you to check 2 minutes later and instead of saying 8 minutes time it says 2 minutes or so! If that is simply due to the decrepit state of the whole system then maybe Nexus needs to explain why but you have to take with a pinch of salt any times it does display.

### 1/5 — inaccurate

*2025-11-21, version 2.2.6*

the times and live metro tracking is so inaccurate sometimes and it has caused me to be late to work many times

### 1/5 — Awful service

*2025-07-30*

The ‘live’ tracker on this app only works about 50% of the time, the other times it will say a metro is 10 minutes away and one turns up a few minutes later or will say it’s 2 minutes away and not turn up for another 15 minutes. Then don’t get me started on the metro service as a whole. More days than not at the minute there is gaps in service or delays in service considerably affecting my commute to work. The worst part is when there is gaps or delays in service it says to check the pop app for live times which like I said isn’t even right half the time. Inconvenience after inconvenience making me late for work

### 1/5 — The Worst Travel App

*2025-07-24, version 2.2.6*

Useless. The departure and arrival times are not accurate at all. I don’t even want to start with all the delays and gaps in service that also are not updated in time.

### 1/5 — Joke of an app

*2025-07-18, version 2.2.6*

What a joke of a app.
Downloaded and tried to get a pay as you go card. Set up an account then it won’t let me apply for a card as it says there’s already an account attached to my details!
Yes the ones I’ve just entered as requested by the app.
Then go round in circles and get nowhere.
Try going through the website and get stuck in a cycle of repeating errors.
Genius!!!

### 1/5 — Update made it bad

*2025-04-29, version 2.2.6*

App used to be good, but with the update the live times of the trains aren’t correct.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work properly

*2025-04-02, version 2.2.6*

The journey planner doesn’t work, the times are incorrect. Old app was accurate and actually helped with planning a journey

### 1/5 — Iphone pop card app

*2025-03-29, version 2.2.6*

Can’t access my pop card on thd apple app- please update as I can’t top up my card, check my pop card status or credit balance

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Loving it !

*2025-04-04, version 2.2.6*

Track your metros is a Great new feature !!

### 5/5 — Making a difference

*2025-02-09*

I think this will be great for people like me who struggle to see the screens

### 5/5 — Saves me time and getting cold.

*2024-10-28, version 2.1.0*

The real time trains and the notifications have saved me hours of standing around on the platform, thanks guys!

### 5/5 — Useful

*2024-05-14, version 2.0.8*

I’ve found it pretty accurate so far and it stops me having to allow extra time or wait around on the platform.

### 5/5 — Saved me loads of times

*2024-04-26, version 2.0.8*

I use the real-time information every day and it’s never been incorrect. I do only use Metro in zone 1 (central corridor) though, where the frequency is higher

### 5/5 — Super useful, especially the live times

*2023-01-30*

Great update, thanks guys. I love the live times and getting real time information when there's delays etc. will be incredibly handy. No more waiting around on platforms in the Northumbrian winter temperatures!

### 5/5 — It’s AMAZING!!!

*2017-11-10*

I love the Tyne and Wear Metro app because you know what time the metro gets to your station and other stations.

You know what time to leave the house so you can catch the metro you are getting, I’ve told my dad and my friend from college about how handy the Tyne and Wear Metro app is and there r planning on getting the Tyne and Wear Metro app.

### 4/5 — Pop Card

*2023-08-22, version 2.0.6*

Great to see the app continuing to get functionality. Nice surprise in the latest update you can now use NFC on your iPhone to check your pop card.

Looking forward to being able to get a digital pop card on IOS, any idea of when this might be available? Only 2 cards in my wallet now pop card and driving licence.

### 3/5 — Worse than useless at times

*2026-02-03*

Used to be good but now totally unreliable. Times in the app bear little relationship to times displayed on the platform boards. You will often be heading for a train and the time suddenly shrinks 3 or 4 minutes so you miss it. This morning I nearly missed two trains because of it - one disappeared completely from the app, only reappeared when it was 1 minute away. Desperately needs work to make it more reliable otherwise it’s junk.

### 2/5 — Not great really…

*2025-07-07*

As a daily commuter. The map, which is rather useless takes up more screen space than the actual list of train times. You can’t specify which platform you need times for, so you end up with a long lists of trains in a really small space (see South Gosforth station).

All we need is list of trains leaving the specified station, platform and their destination.
