### 3/5 — Pretty good app, but only 132 words

*2020-04-24, version 3.8.0*

Someone mentioned the interface was confusing. Seems very simple and intuitive to me. Helped with my vocabulary, but seems like it’s just a “free trial” type app since it only has 132 words and asks you to try the paid version fairly often

### 2/5 — Limited

*2015-05-03, version 2.8.2*

The app would actually be great for learning words if it had more than just 132 of them. Add a couple thousand and it would be perfect for learning vocabulary. It's just too limited to be worth it.

### 3/5 — Lots of words, no grammar

*2013-01-22, version 2.5.0*

I'm writing this right after coming back from Brazil. It was useful, but not enough to carry a conversation. I've learned lots of words from this app, even though I used less than 40% of them. They need to put verbs, basic grammar and some sentence construction. Knowing lots of words but nothing else made me look like a caveman.

### 3/5 — Just OK

*2012-04-24, version 2.2.0*

This is just okay. It does help if you know a little Portuguese, although this seems more like Brazilian Portuguese than Portugal's Portuguese. It's not very fun, so you really need discipline (or fear) to keep up with the study. Don't expect to view this for an hour on your flight to Lisbon and learn anything worth using. But, that's true of any language app. I just expected more from the developer.

### 3/5 — Awful

*2011-12-15, version 2.1.0*

I didn't like at all. This app is for someone who doesn't really need a dictionary very much. Pronunciation is great though.

### 3/5 — Ok

*2011-12-06, version 2.1.0*

It's ok, not brilliant !

### 3/5 — Dictionary missing

*2011-11-27, version 2.1.0*

It needs the dictionary back!!!!! Other than that I guess is cool

### 3/5 — Cool

*2010-07-15, version 0*

Very interesting

### 3/5 — Ah well...

*2010-03-26, version 0*

Good program but I deleted it because it is Brazilian Portuguese and not European, which is the one i'd prefer to brush-up on.

### 1/5 — Pointless.

*2009-07-14, version 0*

The people who made this are just a bunch of ignorant dummies. There is a Brazillian flag for a Portugues translator thing. Its stupid. This app doesnt even translate properly. I know that because i speak fluent portugues. Rubbish.

### 4/5 — STUDENT

*2009-06-26, version 0*

I listened to a sample. It seems like a very good system, however, I think it is Brazilian Portuguese. I am interested in the European Portuguese. Is there one available?

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Confusing

*2017-09-19, version 3.6.1*

This is the worst language app I have ever used it's confusing convoluted I mean it explains nothing on how to set it up it's just really bad if you want to learn Portuguese I would actually pay to do it because it's a difficult language a beautiful language that matches romance Germanic Cyrillic African everything

And this app really does not help

### 1/5 — Audio test stupid

*2015-09-14, version 2.8.2*

Audio test should voice both English & Port words & test pronunciation???

### 1/5 — Péssimo

*2014-03-20, version 2.6.0*

Serviço pago, com poucas opções gratuitas

### 1/5 — No method just random word

*2012-11-03, version 2.5.0*

Agree with other critic, WHO CAME OUT with those words have no clues how to teach language. Give us USEFULL words and example to start not weird words a even use I english. Not for beginner, just a bunch of random words without a method. Not recommended.

### 1/5 — NOT ORIGINAL PORTUGUESE

*2012-06-24, version 2.2.0*

Why is it so hard to specify Portuguese or Brazilian Portuguese? It is not true that just because the majority of the world's Portuguese are in Brazil, that the majority of those wanting to learn Portuguese want Brazilian. I live in the California Central Valley, where most of the Portuguese are from the Azores, but also from mainland Portugal and Madeira.
Americans and others who are not native Europeans from Portugal but originate from countries that were former colonies of Portugal are not Portuguese American, rather, they are codified as Lusitanic, or simply referred to by their present-day nationalities (Cape Verdean, Brazilian, etc.) although many citizens of former Portuguese colonies are also ethnically Portuguese.
The language spoken in Brazil is Brazilian Portuguese, not Portuguese. I am deleting this app because I am Portuguese, want to brush up on Portuguese, and don't care about which language is more popular in your eyes. I'm going to purchase Berlitz instead.

### 1/5 — Could be much better

*2012-02-10, version 2.1.0*

Seriously, who chose these 132 words. So I'm learning Portuguese; how often am I going to use million or even black? Elisabeth Smith's 'Last Minute Portuguese' is much better. Her 50 words are just what one needs to start.

### 1/5 — Without the translator this is not good at all

*2011-11-10, version 2.0.1*

I just installed an update and the option to write phrases in English and then read them translated in Portuguese are gone. I have no use for this app any longer without the translator.

### 1/5 — Please make a European Portuguese version

*2011-03-13, version 1.9.0*

There is a difference!

### 1/5 — Needs Internet for translations

*2010-10-21, version 0*

Need internet access to make translation function to operate.

### 1/5 — Baaaaad

*2010-09-22, version 0*

Totally not worth trying. Pointless and useless.

### 5/5 — Better Than Rosetta

*2012-11-17, version 2.5.0*

I love all their language learning apps (I have French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese). They are easy, fast, and effective. In fact, I learned more using their (FREE) app, and in less time, than I did with my $299 Rosetta Stone. And notice I said their "free" versions.... I can imagine their full versions are even better - and I intend to purchase all of them.

### 5/5 — Muito bom

*2011-12-16, version 2.1.0*

Muito bom

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2011-11-01, version 2.0.1*

Helped me learn Portuguese so I can speak to my grandma

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2011-10-23, version 2.0.1*

Could use more words

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2009-05-21, version 0*

Everything is awesome but since I am bilingual I speak Spanish and English fluently, and was planing on learning Portuguese. This app should also have Spanish to Portuguese. Please consider this when you update it! :D Thanks!

### 4/5 — Want more!

*2015-04-16, version 2.8.2*

This was really helpful to learn the 126 or whatever words included in the app. I've learned them and want more! It's a funny selection. I can say "typhoon" but not "friend" or "sidewalk"

### 4/5 — Good

*2012-06-19, version 2.2.0*

Useful, and good for the beginner.i really loved learning portuguese .<3

### 4/5 — Hi

*2011-08-04, version 2.0.1*

Hi i am such a critic but i actually like this app. It doesnt give you alot of words to study for but ita. Okay it isnt called essentials for nothing.

### 4/5 — Acceptable

*2010-09-15, version 0*

Nice to learn, but the Translation feature is too bad. None correct from English to Portuguese out of two words.

### 4/5 — Where's the Euro Version?

*2009-07-19, version 0*

Loved the trucated free version, and would buy the full version if they only made one for European Portuguese. Guys, there's a difference.
