## What is PoseBook By Silver?

Watch Stephen tell you why he made the app and show you how it works before you buy, by visiting our site at http://posebookbysilver.com.

How does an artist get better at drawing? Very simple, by drawing. That practice, the act of being inspired and finding new approaches is what moves an artist to the next level.

The purpose of this book is to provide you with images to inspire you. A book dedicated to help guide every artist, to learn about, construction, form, balance anatomy, proportion, folds in clothing, gesture, silhouettes, portraiture, lighting, hands, perspective, and contrast.

With the images in the Posebook, you can sketch for the fun of it. Learn how to draw humans from the side view, back view, understand how the head tilts, how a body sits, understand the angles of a foot. You can study and draw the back of an ear, the underside of a nostril, the bottom of a shoe. Whatever you feel you need to practice, this is your chance. Flip to any page and start sketching what inspires you.

I find that when I am struggling, or uninspired, what works for me is to find photos that look like fun to draw. So I set in motion the tools to create the pose book that I always wanted. With great dedication and passion, I bring to you a book to draw from, learn from, and have fun with. Don't feel that you need to copy the pose exactly, or use it to find just the right pose for a comic you are doing. Remember this book’s purpose is to provide you with inspiration. You can take it everywhere you go.

HAVE FUN!!!!

### 5/5 — Stephen Silver is Awesome

*2021-05-02*

What can I say, these apps are a great resource for different kinds of poses, and his other apps are also awesome.

### 3/5 — Good content/Not so good app

*2020-12-16, version 2.0*

This app is worth all the money for the photo content but unfortunately the app doesn’t function properly and requires updating.

Stephen Silver, thank you for the awesome content.

App developer Johnny B. please fix and update this app.

### 3/5 — Videos don’t work?

*2020-09-25*

Great app!! All the images are great and I love using them to practice and warm up but sadly none of the videos work which is really disappointing.....

### 4/5 — Great resource - would love an update!

*2020-04-08*

Love this app. I do wish it could be updated for further iPad functionality - like split screen, or rotating to landscape mode. Otherwise, these are great poses! So much better than what you find online for free.

### 4/5 — Nice reference

*2020-04-07*

I’m loving the reference in this app so far. Only comment I’d provide is I wish it would get updated for the new iOS and there’s some issues with scale of the UI and rotating the app on my iPad. Other than that it’s awesome :)

### 1/5 — Nothing of use in here

*2019-04-11, version 2.0*

All the same actor, nothing you can really use in your comics etc. Worth maybe $1.

### 4/5 — Timed poses need more options

*2019-01-24*

I specifically bought the PoseBook for the timed poses option, and I actually love this! Before getting the app, I've been finding photos online, generating random numbers, and using that number to pick a pose from my collection to draw for the next 15 seconds to minute before generating the next random number. This is a great step up!

Some things I wish were included in this aspect:

- 15 second poses. Maybe even 3, 5,
or 10 seconds for when I'm feeling really crazy.
- A length of session option, so I can have 30 second poses for longer than 5 minutes. (Sessions currently max at 10 poses.)
- Options for what is shown during the sessions, e.g. you can choose one or multiple of: hands, faces, or full body poses. I like the idea of having a bunch of timed hand or face practice, but I don't see how that's possible with the current setup.

Otherwise, great app. I'm looking forward to using it more!

### 5/5 — Best figure study app!

*2017-07-11, version 1.4*

Awesome reference for students and pros!

### 4/5 — Cool app

*2016-07-13*

Just bought the app, and I'm excited to put it to use. My initial reaction to the poses is that I would have loved more "normal" options, especially with the costumes. I believe it would be beneficial to have a set of poses with minimal distractions to allow a cleaner view of the character's full pose.

### 5/5 — Go to for warm ups

*2016-01-31, version 1.4*

I'm a freelance artists and this app has been very handy when starting on my daily workload. I usually use the timed poses for warm up set at 30sec poses to keep me fresh and on my toes to focus on gesture. This is possibly the most helpful feature for me. I use it on my iPhone, but probably even clearer on a larger digital pad device. There's a lot more to it than that, there is a library of reference poses, costumed characters with props, and many angles of the same pose to study. occasionally I go back to watch some videos when feeling stuck.

I initially thought the price was steep, but if you're a serious artist, you've already invested hundreds of dollars in books, fan media, movies, and probably formal education. Yet, I opted to purchase both apps, and made a commitment to use them and not just leave it on the shelf like a book to look pretty after a few uses. Guess what, that's exactly what happened, and I rarely can say I do that. And I'm proud to say that in the last 3 years, I've returned on my investment over and over again. I've used this app far longer than any game, utility, or reference guide on my phone. So if you think you will use it, then you'll soon forget you even spent the money. Again, this is only if you're a serious artist and know that it's just a tool. No app will make you a better artists. But it's a very handy companion to count on any time you like, as a warmup, reference guide, or maybe kill time with a sketch pad while waiting at the car wash.

Even though I gave it 5 stars. It has room for improvements.

-The timer sometimes doesn't display the correct scale or off center on the image. Although you can move it around yourself, you shouldn't have to do that when your on a timer. Also the random selection sometimes repeats the same image.

-The galleries are a series of contact sheets, and you have to manually zoom in to an individual image. It would be nice to be able to double tap an indivisible shot and it automatically goes to fill the screen. Perhaps this isn't a problem on a larger display, but on the phone device it's not really suitable. For a $10 app I feel like it should have this sort of tailored applicability. But what it lacks in functionality, it makes up for being a hi-res file that you can zoom in to see a lot of details.

-While I like the gestures and professional models acting out singular expressions, I feel like there can be even more with sequential story poses to aid in action analyses. For example, there is a pirate character holding a "barrel of rum" over his shoulder, then propping a leg on it, to then looking like he's about to throw it. While this is very helpful to get your imagination in telling different story situations, there could be a few sections where you take a story situation with a prop and show that character going through a mini situation arc. For example, the pirate sneaks up to the barrel of rum, steals it, then in an attempt to run off trips and falls. I think it would be a good practice for animators to get the mind thinking about the complexity of a simple series of movements. But even storyboard artists, book illustrators and graphic novelists could also benefit from this sort of study. Perhaps that's just an idea for an app all on its own.

All-in-all I highly recommend this app for being a reference guide and using for warm-ups. Which is a good substitute if you can't always afford going to live gesture classes. It gives you a similar practice at the comfort of your own schedule and pace. Lastly, Stephen Silver is a really awesome person, amazing artist and devoted and passionate teacher. He has a magic ability to produce artwork that you can learn from just by observing his work. Props to him!
