It sends you an email link to login, you do and then covers up the article with a request to subscribe or login. You can do this a zillion times, but it won't let you see content. Waste of time. ### 1/5 — New version not good *2022-07-07, version 4.0.0* Just opened the new version…not good. Places an ad nearly in the middle of the page. Get it out of there! Obviously, it doesn’t work on a desktop computer so I am FORCED to try to read the paper on my phone. I can’t get a hard copy because they no longer deliver to my area. I am being forced to log in three or four times while reading one days newspaper. Needs to be fixed if anyone pays attention. ### 1/5 — Terrible software in the app *2022-04-04, version 3.8.8* The app has annoying bright blue lines that show up extending from the intrusive banner ad on top. WAY too many ads for a paid subscription. Hard to navigate. Extremely difficult to find recent issues. If one stops in the middle of a story one day and tries to finish it the next day, the app immediately advances to the new day’s front page, and it is extremely difficult to find the way back. Looking at this becomes an incredibly frustrating, time-consuming, and rewarding experience. Is consistently a terrible app. ### 1/5 — Stopped Working *2022-03-01, version 3.8.8* App stopped working two days ago. I tried restarting, as well as deleting/reinstalling the app. All IOS updates are current. There’s no apparent way to check settings to view your account. ### 1/5 — Ads for a paid subscription *2022-01-10, version 3.8.8* I pay for a monthly online subscription. There are ads in the newspaper, why do I have to have more ads on the online addition? Ridiculous. And if you like to do the puzzles on line, forget it, they are not available. Pay for the e-editions but cannot get daily crossword puzzles, “not available” ### 1/5 — Absolutely Dysfunctional App *2020-12-28, version 3.8.2* Is there any attempt made to maintain this app so that it actually functions? P&C sells digital subscriptions and then publishes an app that is incapable of actually opening the news content. For months all I get is “Server error occurred during ‘settings’ request. Do you want to reload the application?” (Which yields the same error.) Complete garbage. ### 1/5 — ADs annoying *2020-07-23, version 3.8.1* This is my third time deleting & reinstalling this app. Ads at top of screen are extremely annoying. Impossible to delete. Appears that this is a constant complaint! Probably very easy fix by administrators of this app. ### 1/5 — Awful App *2020-06-27, version 3.8.0* This app is quite clunky. When I open a specific article (instead of reading in paper layout view), I have to rotate my iPad to landscape and then back to portrait view to be able to scroll down through the article. And who is proofreading these articles?Everyday three is one or more articles with a run together string of words. The worst is having to log back in every time the app updates. ### 1/5 — No back editions *2020-06-27, version 3.8.0* I couldn’t find editions for the previous seven days. The new version seems to be for the current day only. It also is harder to navigate. If you are on the sports section and you want to go back to the front page you have to scroll through all the pages. It is becoming too expensive also. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Worst app ever *2022-12-22, version 4.0.1* This has got to be the worst app I’ve ever used. The current day’s paper does not always show when I open the app each morning. The app has to be deleted then reinstalled to see the current day’s version. Today I’m only getting the puzzle section and one page of the Business section. Yesterday entire articles were chopped off at the end. Garbage app. ### 1/5 — App and e paper are useless *2022-09-28, version 4.0.1* We have been post and courier subscribers for almost 40 years. We gladly switched to the digital edition when it came out. The new app that came out in the past month or so is almost impossible to use. The top and bottom toolbars plus the ad bars take up almost a quarter of my iPad screen. Then just a few days ago, the app became completely useless. Downloading the paper results in a full page of minute print. The “next” button shows two pages of the paper, with minute print. Expanding the page makes the page wobbly, and the next button still takes us to two tiny pages of print. The E edition on the web is just as bad. I have called and been told that there is not a problem, as if I am making up this awful experience. ### 1/5 — Ad bar went away for a few weeks then suddenly it’s back *2022-09-11, version 4.0.0* Who is managing this app? After much complaining, the ad bar went away and for a couple weeks it was pleasant reading. Now the stupid ad bar is back. As much as we pay for this subscription we should not be subjected to more irritating, content covering ads inside the app. Maybe fire the folks managing the app and find someone who knows what they are doing? ### 1/5 — Garbage UPDATE *2022-09-07, version 4.0.0* It is clear they can remove the ad bar, as it went away for a few weeks, but alas it is back. Come folks, get your act together! End of the month I find my local news elsewhere if the ad bar is still there. What the heck is with the advertising bar in the middle of the page. I am paying for this paper, and I don’t want to see an advertising bar on the page. This is not a free version of the paper. Please remove the advertising bar or at the very least to make it possible for the reader to close it out. It’s blocking much of the text, and is annoying. I know local newspapers are worried about subscribership, but I can tell you that this is not the way to treat your subscribers. I will unsubscribe from this paper if you continue an app that has advertising that is not removable. ### 1/5 — No improvement *2022-08-17, version 4.0.0* The old version was clunky and buggy; this version is clunky and buggy. If you try to go back a page, the App signs you out. Random ads that cannot be closed out mask the bottom third of the page. The paper is 50% or so advertising already; why do they need to add another layer of ads? (Actually, I know the answer to that question and it has nothing to do with delivering news). ### 1/5 — Terrible *2022-07-17, version 4.0.0* Can’t log in to the new app. No one seems to know how to fix, or care to fix. ### 1/5 — Total fail. *2022-07-13, version 4.0.0* The new update has made what was a user friendly app into a chore. Reading individual articles is no longer seamless. The floating ad covers portions of the stories and there’s no way to get it out of the way. Whoever thought this was an improvement is clueless. The change is a total fail. ### 1/5 — Still not working *2022-07-10, version 4.0.0* With new app update, I am unable to read/access any of the newspaper on my iPad. Repeated logins, cleared cookies, reloaded app,, changed password. Spent 30+ minutes on phone with staff. Still no paper…. Wonder if I will still be billed for this poor service? ### 1/5 — The worst *2022-07-10, version 4.0.0* Paying for a paper that I can’t read. Will not allow me to sign in! ### 1/5 — Yet another bad update *2022-07-10, version 4.0.0* Story continues, good content but the app is awful. The latest is even more clunky than before. Viewing the paper layout requires constant swiping and zooming to read and avoid the obnoxious ad banner. It’s like no one even tries this app before they release it? Two simple examples: When zoomed to full page, the ad banner should not cover the bottom of the page. And you should be able to swipe to the next page without auto zooming out, covering up the top and bottom of the page so you have to zoom in again and swipe around to read. I think a high school programming class could build a better app. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Finally making a bit of progress *2023-09-26* This last update seems to have really drastically improved the speed, responsiveness, and general layout of the app. It wasn’t a great app before but this update two weeks ago really sped up everything. Thanks to the anonymous dev who put some time into the app. I know your update just mentioned “app improvements “ but at least one person totally recognized the improvement. ### 4/5 — Great Update! *2022-07-22, version 4.0.0* Love the new app. Great content and now everything in one place... the e-paper and the real-time news. It's been long overdue but very appreciated. And great content as always. Happy subscriber. ### 4/5 — Annoying Ad Displays *2022-07-13, version 4.0.0* Please remove the rotating ads that display at the bottom of the screen. They’re extremely annoying and a distraction. ### 3/5 — Fix the Ad Display and where are the Sunday Comics? Update *2022-07-18, version 4.0.0* First of all, I love the paper content. What I find frustrating with this new version is that the ad at the bottom on the paper covers the content at the bottom of the paper. You have to manipulate the paper or article just to read the paper. Please fix this and place those ad banners someplace that they don’t cover content. In addition, the the Sunday edition no longer includes the Sunday comics. Why? Update. Good news. Now we can find the Sunday comics, thank you. It appears there is an improvement on the floating ads at the bottom of the screen, but I’ll give it a bit more time to see if it is a consistent fix. ### 2/5 — Love new layout but detest the “ads bar” *2023-01-11, version 4.0.1* Get rid of “ads bar” make it a real newspaper without the annoyance at the bottom of every page! I know it can be done since it has sporadically popped in & out and other newspapers using same template have eliminated ads! ### 2/5 — Fix the format *2022-07-10, version 4.0.0* This new version broke the format on iPads. It is no longer like reading the paper. It appears to be formatted to fit on a phone screen and when enlarged, it is huge requiring much scrolling. This app wasn’t broken before this “upgrade”. Why mess with it? ### 2/5 — Won’t scroll through an article *2021-06-21, version 3.8.8* I go to the digest view so I can read an article. It will let you scroll down 2 or 3 paragraphs then freezes and stops. Then I have to try to scroll up and down for15 seconds before it unfreezes and then does the same thing again. ### 2/5 — Slow to load, if it does! *2020-02-09, version 3.0.3* All other apps load fine except this one. ### 2/5 — App very buggy *2018-10-01, version 3.0.3* The app is great when it works well, however it frequently crashes and needs to be reinstalled. I THINK developers eliminated hyper annoying ads that would pop up without any clicks into a video interrupting your leisurely reading for a 30 second video ad. Given I pay for a subscription and already see the ads within the paper, this was especially frustrating—but I haven’t seen them in a few days, which is great. One way around it was to download issue and go into online mode—but that is where it would get buggy as the app wouldn’t recognize old editions being deleted and not allow you to reload new editions. Then today I opened app this morning and it caught itself in a loop of being in offline mode without loading into online mode, so it froze again. Please fix!! ### 2/5 — Why the ads? *2017-11-09, version 3.0.3* What’s up with the ads at the top?. I’m paying for this subscription and you have stupid google advertising in the top banner. I liked the old app, where I single tapped a story to read it in the right pane.
