The app has lacked a key feature from the very start, though, and that is the ability to completely disable GPS position hold. This makes flying indoors extremely risky, at best. GPS positioning only partially works in a typical home or small building. That is, you'll likely get a position lock after a while, but the exact position inside the building will rarely be precise. Instead, the reported position will seem to move around inside the building as the signals from the GPS satellites bounce around. GPS systems calculate positions based on the exact arrival times of signals from their satellites in orbit, so even the smallest delay from a reflection off a metal window frame or refrigerator door will cause errors. Since the app won't allow you to "turn off" GPS position hold, the result is a seemingly normal indoor flight until the moment GPS gets a lock. Once the light turns green on the back of the drone, your friendly Atom drone appears to lose its mind as it tries to follow the wandering position reported by GPS. Maybe the Potensic developers didn't notice this behaviour in their steel-and-glass office building in Shenzhen, but anyone who tries to fly in a home or small building will experience a crash because of this problem sooner or later. It is annoying but still workable since im in the city and have internet data. Once i go into the mountains i would have no internet, this problem would make the drone useless for me ### 2/5 — Lacks basic functionality that other drone apps had 8 years ago *2025-05-04, version 3.4.0* I originally owned a parrot bebop, and one of my favorite features was the flight plan app. It would let you design detailed flight paths with waypoints, speeds, camera orientation, etc. while disconnected from the drone. You could save these flight paths and run them once you’ve got to your launching location. This app forces you to have the drone in the air and hovering while designing a flight path. By the time you’re actually done designing the flight path, the drone has no battery left to actually perform the flight. Super weird that they haven’t included this. Not being hyperbolic, but I’d much rather go back to the original parrot drone from 10 years ago to have that flight plan functionality. ### 3/5 — no headless mode ? *2025-04-08, version 3.3.13* in the app there is not headless mode when on the videos shows something different ? ### 2/5 — CHANGE THE AGE LIMIT *2025-03-08, version 3.3.12* Everything is great about it but when the app age changed my kid stoped using it cause he couldn’t get off the screen where it said that it needs to update the app and he can update it because he is 14 and not 17+ or whatever it was. ### 2/5 — GOS *2025-01-22, version 3.3.12* The app had an update, now the GPS will not connect. I hope this is fixed soon ### 4/5 — 2nd Best Drone on the Market *2025-01-17, version 3.3.12* This is my first drone and it’s awesome. It has many advanced features that are not even offered on more expensive drones. Why 2nd best, because DJI is the market leader and also 5 to 10 times more expensive. The Atom 3-axis gimbal was so easy to set up and to learn. My first flights were scary, but after a few more I had it down. It takes amazing photos and video. I love to just go out and fly. It’s so much fun. I’ve taken some amazing pictures. I can’t say enough good things about this drone. You have to just experience it yourself to understand. I haven’t had the need and hopefully I won’t need to contact customer support but feedback on them is generally very good. This drone is not a toy. I don’t recommend flying it in the house. Trust me on that point. Read the manual carefully and repeat several times before your first flight. It’ll pay off dividends. It takes a while to connect to app to the drone but when it does it has good video/camera feed. The controller is intuitive. The app is overall easy to use which I appreciate. Having the camera record video was confusing to me. The App has not failed or disconnected while I have been using it. The app worked perfect and the drone captured amazing footage even at low light. The follow mode was a game changer for the golf trip after. I personally prefer a smoother video so 1080p at 60hz is where I left it at. The Atom is the best mini alternative to the more expensive DJI Mini series. The app design is great and has a lot of nice features that are similar to those you see on professional drones. I do think that they should add more features like an automatic exposure lock in the app which makes it easier for the user to use the camera in the auto mode setting. Other features like an option to change operating frequency channels for heavy interference areas would be helpful, and a “Virtual RTH icon” that shows the home point location of on the image feed like the DJI Mini 4 Pro has would be amazing!
