### 3/5 — Clunky

*2025-03-27*

This app does what it’s supposed to but using it needs improvement. The search feature is terrible. I ran a search for “0.25 eagle” and it returned zero results. Then tried again and it came back with only two results, both were for half ounce coins. Trying to find the most basic coins is a chore so after over a year of paying for this app, I’m leaving and will verify my gold and silver purchases through alternative means.

**Developer response:** Hello,

We are sorry to hear that. Would you like to try "Gold eagle" directly as keyword? The app has a huge database and the search sometimes cannot find the optimum results.
Please feel free to reach out to us by email, we are happy to help on any concerns on the app.

We will also work on reducing the difficulty in the coin search.

Best regards,
Precious Coin Tester team

### 4/5 — Accurate but hard to use User interface

*2024-11-19*

The app seems to be working very accurately, however, the user interface is very finicky and could use some very basic upgrades, such as being able to save the most used coins. That way you don’t have to look for them every time, and improving the search function as it could be very difficult to find some coins

**Developer response:** Thanks a lot for your review! We understand your concerns. The search ability should have already been improved in 2.1.0. If you find any concrete examples of search issues, please drop us a mail at preciouscointester@gmail.com. We are more than happy to know them! We will also continue on improving other aspects to make the app easier to use :)

### 2/5 — Not useful

*2024-10-23*

Most the various coins are locked until you pay. I tried to test a few coins to try this app out and it doesn’t work. Clicked “check” then clinged my coin and nothing, tried again and again, doesn’t work. No waves no response nothing. My coins gonna get scratched up plus they keep falling onto the floor. Time for a new tester.

### 4/5 — Zzz

*2024-10-07*

Works pretty well. Sometimes see “network error” when trying to use, but usually it works.

**Developer response:** Hello, we are sorry for what you have experienced. Would you please drop us a mail at preciouscointester@gmail.com with more details, so we can investigate and solve the issue?

### 3/5 — Better than nothing

*2024-10-07*

Gave me a 3/3 rating for a glass jar while testing for ASEs. Just another data point, don’t bet the house on just this app. Update - the right coin was selected, the point is you can fool the app with false positives.

**Developer response:** Hello, the correct coin needs to be selected before performing the test in order to have a meaningful result. (Otherwise, you can use a musical instrument to get any result you want :D) You can find some best practices here: https://preciouscointester.com/en/best_practices.html

### 3/5 — Disappointed

*2024-06-14*

I bought to test U.S. 90% gold and silver coins. There are only 2 coins that be tested for free. A one silver dollar and a one ounce twenty dollar. No other denominations available without a subscription. Also, you can’t use the special parameters section without a description.

After paying $30 for the device, I expected more options.

**Developer response:** Hello, we don't sell any device in our company. Maybe you mean the "pocket pinger". It belongs to a different company. The subscription fee helps us to maintain the app and improve it continuously. We are very sorry for your misunderstanding. If you could point out which pieces of information have misled you, it will be very helpful for us, and will the make it clearer.

### 2/5 — Subscription plan likely limiting sales revenue

*2024-06-11*

Econ 101: Price up = demand down

Subscriptions are generally reviled, so, perhaps you could increase your revenue by figuring a way to segment your prospective customer base.

Maybe a one-time fee for just the *custom* tester (i.e., no access to the coin library).
Or maybe:
One-time fee—say, $9.99—for access to the current database but some additional fee for the annual update (heck, and even a $1.99 annual “maintenance fee” for a “Basic” plan).

For example, I don’t buy rounds; I buy old silver. I’d pay 10 bucks for the current library, but I have no need for annual updates. Let those who need them have the option to buy them.

More money is made via a “Volume, volume, volume!” strategy than by exclusionary pricing. How many new “casual users” could you entice with a lower-priced “Basic” plan?

**Developer response:** Hello,

Thanks for your suggestions!

Our updates are not limited to adding new coins, it also improves precision of existing ones, and fix false positive or false negative results if we found any. These updates help to better protect our users against fake coins.

We also need to keep comply with the latest requirements from AppStore, which ensure the sustainability of the service.

The subscription model fits the type of our expense for the moment. We will think about your suggestions and it may be more suitable later in the future.

Thanks again for your suggestion and understanding!

### 4/5 — Helpfull

*2023-10-01, version 1.4.2*

Very helpfull if you have hearing loss or tone loss

### 2/5 — Subscriptions subscriptions subscriptions

*2023-07-14*

This subscription model is tired lame and needs to be put out of it’s misery. I’m not paying $36 a year for an app I might use 2 times a month. My dealer has a tester that I can use for free. If you want my money then either charge $.50 a month or 4.99 for a years worth of updates. Until the I’ll find another to check ALL of my coins for free.

### 2/5 — What a joke! NOT very accurate!

*2023-06-21*

This app is a joke for real. First of all, misleading to have access the manual feature so you are force to subscribe. After subscription, only then tells you that the manual is not 3/3 accurate. Also, the results are varies with the same coins. 2023 Britannia silver 1 oz is not even in the coin list. It so hard pick the region as it’s very sensitive when you’re rolling the region choices. Don’t waste your money to subscribe, its a useless tool.

### 4/5 — Ping test

*2023-04-09*

I really am grateful for the service you provide. The only suggestion I have is that you guys supply a table of contents for coins categorized by region. I have some Britannia’s and cannot find them on here at all. I type In Britannia in key word search but nothing. Maybe provide a key Or table of key words, I e run into this with other popular coins that are silver and because I’m not using the correct key words which aren’t provided I end up using manual dimensions which usually come back 2 out of 3. These happen with Niue coins 999 silver too, what’s the key word? Also app needs updated to 2023 it still doesn’t go past 2021. But other than that I love this service you provide thank you sooo much you offer peace of mind. Thank you.

### 1/5 — Terrible App

*2023-02-05, version 1.3.4*

This app cannot find a 2023 1oz American Gold Eagle coin. Save your time go somewhere else.

### 3/5 — Use At own risk

*2023-02-01, version 1.3.4*

As it says on the bottom of page when you use this app
Ping done on 1 Penny bronze coin on gold sovereign setting and the results are excelent
Seems to know when SILVER is tested but i would not BANK on it

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Network Error

*2024-12-08, version 2.1.1*

I’ve tried using the app multiple times with different coins and always got a “network error” message.

### 1/5 — New Point System is not good

*2024-10-12, version 2.0.9*

What is the new point system? Why do I need points if I’m already a subscriber?

1 star for unecessary popups and no explanation

### 1/5 — Locked behind a paywall subscription

*2024-04-08, version 1.4.3*

The app used to be great, everything was free to test. Now you need to pay 3$ a month. Ridiculous

### 1/5 — Server error coinstantly.

*2024-02-20, version 1.4.3*

Paid for a subscription and server always down. A refund would be nice!

### 1/5 — Says everything is good.

*2023-09-05, version 1.4.1*

Didn't fail any of my coins even when I pinged the wrong ones on purpose. Passed an ASE as a gold double eagle a couple times in a row 3/3.

### 1/5 — ONE COIN?

*2023-05-11, version 1.3.11*

I purchased this app. I am supposed to get over 100 “free” coins to test. I get only 1 SMH

### 1/5 — Rarely use, not paying

*2023-04-27*

Works well but I rarely use. It came free with the pocket paying her now they’ve decided to charge for it. I think it’s $2.99 a month but I haven’t used it in months. There is no way I’m gonna pay for it. I have no idea when they started charging the fee. Like I said, I haven’t use the app in probably six months I go onto use it now you have to pay. I emailed them and they said it got so popular they decided to start charging for it

### 1/5 — Coins not listed

*2023-04-27, version 1.3.11*

Paid for premium service and still can’t find the coins in the list for year weight and size and my coins are just basic silver rounds, Morgan’s and Eagles. Ring testing these coins is a great idea but you can’t find the basic ones on the list. Unsubscribed.

### 1/5 — Didn’t work for me

*2023-03-21, version 1.3.9*

Total waste of time and money

### 1/5 — Bait and switch

*2023-03-11*

This app is advertised to use with the coin ping test device they sell online, purchase the tester use the free app. One day, out of the blue, they add a subscription plan to the app and lock most of the coins behind it. Better off long run to get a sigma analytics than hand money over monthly to these sheisters.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Saving money

*2026-03-29, version 2.3.9*

Saved me so many times

### 5/5 — Thankful!!

*2026-03-06*

Finally an app that isn’t trying to bleed you for money! I appreciate this company for making this app easy to use and free of charge!

THANK YOU!!!

**Developer response:** Thanks for your review!

### 5/5 — Money saver

*2025-01-10*

Without this tool, I would have accepted over $1,000 in bogus Morgans and Silver Ridge coins.
More than pays for itself on a daily basis.

**Developer response:** Thanks a lot for your review! We are very happy that the app has helped, it's our objective :)

### 5/5 — Silver Libertad and Gold Maple Leaf

*2023-09-23, version 1.4.2*

I have tested on these two 1 oz silver and gold coins. Very easy to find the coins in the search and I had ping tested everyone to my satisfaction.

### 5/5 — Excellent App

*2023-05-21*

Free version was more than enough for me. Allows you to select Buffalo Rounds. Was still able to test my Eagles with this too, as the size is all that matters. Tested bars and junk I have to see how legitimate the rounds tester is. Spot on every time. Can’t see how anyone could complain. Free version is good enough for me.

### 5/5 — A must have for serious stackers.

*2023-02-25*

Comparing results between specific gravity test, a Sigma Metalytics PMV we own and this Ping testing AP it’s been spot on as are the above two that we depend on to make sure no fakes exist in our stack.
For fast accurate detection on the fly we have come to depend on the Coin Tester AP.
We’ve subscribed to it and are willing to accept the results without question.
It’s well worth the cost and piece of mind. So if your on the fence about using this AP and or subscribing go for it. It’ll save you a lot of grief and pay for itself.

### 5/5 — Great app!!

*2023-02-14*

The perfect companion for the pocket pinger! I love that it tells you the weight and the measurements of the coin, along with a great way to test! It has been right on the money so far!! Thank you for making this!!!

### 5/5 — Is it real?

*2022-10-08, version 1.1.3*

Thanks to this app and the Pocket Pinger I am more confident about my coins being the real thing

### 5/5 — Chinese knockoffs

*2022-04-03, version 0.12.8*

I messed up. Believed some Chinese knockoffs of American Silver Eagles were real. They weren't. My Coin Ping Test and this app said BAD-nope fake.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2022-03-11, version 0.12.8*

Thank you for this app 10/10
