This app has great potential but doesn’t quite make it yet. I am writing from the point of view of a sea kayaker so close-to-the-coast coverage is important. The 400m setting doesn’t give sufficient tidal current information close to the coast. The 100m setting is potentially very useful but, at the moment, only covers a very limited amount of coastline (in the UK only the Solent). Moreover, the 100m setting only gives information up until 11am the next day. If the 100m option gave information for the whole of the next day, I would subscribe.
Each current forecast covers 36 hours and is issued at midnight GMT (at least for UK). This means that the forecast only covers the morning of the following day so tidal planning for the following day is not possible.

The 100m current data is accessible for 36 hours from each forecast run, allowing you to view the next day. We're continually adding more 100m tidal current areas. Please email support@predictwind.com with your requests, and we will also be able to assist you in better utilizing the app.

I’ve been using Windy for current info but thought I would try this since I like PresictWind. When I went to set up a location around my current position I got an error message that says

“Unable to Add Location
There is no current data available at this location. Try a location that is not on land, or is in deeper water.”

I’m 800 miles south of Hawaii in 24,000 feet of water. How much deeper do you want?

You might need the PredictWind app for the data you need, and I can offer you a free trial to explore it. Currently, the PredictCurrent app is designed for coastal marine users, while Ocean Currents are best viewed in the PredictWind app. We're working on adding Ocean Currents to PredictCurrent soon, but I want to ensure you're set up right away.

This app is so cool with the detailed currents hour-by-hour. I’m just checking it out for the free trial. It seems worthless without paying for the full app. I might use it seasonally during paddling season. It’s really cool to nerd out at this level in the San Juan archipelago

The whole app feels vibe coded and insecure. You need an account just to check the current... When you try to make an account it does not save the password in their database correctly so you cannot login. Please filter out characters you can't handle if you are going to force people to create accounts. Which is very silly. Just use uuid

The UX design of this and the predict wind is terrible. I have a subscription so I muscle through it but having to save your location before getting the data you need is a pain. Just give me the data from my current location or a location I choose. Why do I always need to save a location before the app can give be any data. Terrible.  Also the app doesn’t work. Just takes 39 seconds to load and just goes to a black screen.

STOP ASKING FOR PERSONAL DATA. You don’t need it. Waiting to pass laws to make it illegal!

We sell app subscriptions, not email addresses. Our customer database has never, and will never be, sold to anyone. It is used only by PredictWind from New Zealand for direct communication with our customers. Social logins are coming soon to further enhance privacy.

Ads say “free” but depict paywalled premium content. Despite appearances, you will not have access to that current map without paying a significant subscription fee. They would be better off making it a paid app. Bait and switch is a turnoff. No thanks ✌️

**Developer response:** Hi Emaqua, sorry to hear you're disappointed by the subscription nature of the app. Constructing the proprietary dataset for this app has required a substantial investment, so we cannot offer it for free. The app is represented accurately. It is clearly labelled, offering In-App purchases. The Wind, Current, Wave and Tide data provided on the home page are free. Using the Maps requires a Professional subscription. I will discuss with the team how we might clarify the paid content in the app description.

There is no data on currents unless you pay, and it’s not cheap. Sure we all need to make money, but not even seeing what they provide, I can’t justify $30 quarterly payments. Love Predict Wind and yeah they say they have great data in their current models… but how great? Delete.
