### 2/5 — Buggy

*2020-08-24, version 34.30*

Great mag but lousy app. I get sent email links to new issues while the app fails to refresh, so currently reading September issue on Safari, making suitable only for archive. Tried contacting the mag but no answer.

### 1/5 — No

*2019-09-15*

...it just doesn’t work/load. Did you do any testing at all? You need a new developer. DELETE.

### 1/5 — Trouble with latest version

*2019-07-29*

Pages are really tiny and unreadable. Love the mag but I am so tired of the iPad app. I give, UNCLE!

### 1/5 — Content good, app bad.

*2019-07-13*

The content is the magazine, which is good. The app contains a straight copy of the magazine, which requires all manner of zooming and landscape aspect to make even remotely readable.

Stick to the website. It’s vastly superior.

### 1/5 — Bad App...

*2019-06-09*

When will the publishers fix the App or go back to the platform from a few years ago that worked great on the iPad?

Slow loading or no loading of content..can’t download with the paid subscription.

### 1/5 — Horrible digital app. Just wasted my money subscribing

*2018-11-28*

Love the magazine. Unable to download a single issue despite buying the 2 year subscription. I cannot describe how poor the app is.

### 1/5 — Digital mag doesn’t work

*2018-09-04*

Keep getting JS Data Error and a “don’t have permission” warning when downloading issue. Months ago this app worked but soon stopped working. Bummer because I don’t always want to carry around the print magazine.

### 1/5 — Great magazine. App doesn’t work at all. AVOID

*2018-04-01*

Super magazine. But the digital component of the subscribtion is a disaster. After removing it adding it a dozen times, it still won’t load magazine. I get a JS error and saying I’m not allowed to see the content. Customer service at PG doesn’t quite know what to do, so I guess I’ll be paper only since the iPad Pro version seemingly will not work. Too bad. May impact if I re-up my subscription. If you are intending to do a digital only subscription, I’d advise you to do it with extreme caution and be prepared for calling them for a refund.

### 1/5 — No matter how many times it still doesn't format right

*2017-08-23, version 33.6*

No matter how many times they update the app it still doesn't format right. On iPad Pro with latest iOS

### 1/5 — Love the mag, hate the app

*2017-07-13*

After subscribing, tried to read an issue linked through email. There was a banner ad across the top for strings that couldn't be hidden. It was suggested I get the app, I thought, so I could avoid the ad.
Downloaded the app, couldn't get the issue. I was instructed to get the latest app, and to do that I had to upgrade my OS. Got the issue after some email login problems. Still have the ad. Very slow download had to be started again a few times. My internet connection clocks at around 40mps, but the app is sluggish as far as downloading and page turns, and then there's the ad that doesn't go away.
I would totally recommend against a digital subscription.

### 3/5 — Great Mag. Too bad you can't read it.

*2017-06-27, version 33.4*

Update: PG got back to me and pointed out that you can tap the laptop icon next to the PG logo and it goes to full page mode. The zoom there works pretty well compared to other in app mags. I am going to try reading in that mode. It is a workaround for one big thing that you can see the issue TOC better in this mode. Then you can use the page thumbnails and page number to find the article. Then you can switch back to the other mode to read the article. I upped my star rating to reflect this workaround. I think many of the issues are related to content conversion and reading on a phone. My gripe remains that people should test as users would experience the content. Hope that helps somebody.

-----------

Wow what a bad app. It's flaws compound on each other.

One thing the app gets right is making a long page on the phone rather than chop it into pieces where you have to zoom in and out but the zoom never settles where you want it too.

But now the problems begin. The worst problem is there is no article index of any kind other than Page 1, Page 2 etc. So don't expect to find an article except by paging through from front to back. Every time. It doesn't even remember your place. Don't expect to be able to find a column by your favorite contributor. Page 1, Page 2 etc from front to back, every time.

This is further complicated by content format issues. Is the page still loading? No it's a blank page.

And the page up button is at the very bottom only. Put one at the top! Please!

You learn that you can swipe to turn the page but about 2/3's in the page is off. So when you swipe to page up, the article is chopped off on the left with a blank space on the right. When you try to slide the page left to read the article, it pages back. Bad!

There are words run together everywhere.

There is an ever present ad at the top that takes up a portion of the reading space. There is only one sponsor there. My gut tells me this isn't even a popular ad type. I would have ignored it completely except it scrolls up and under not only the apps interface but also the content and the phone's status bar.

It is very clear that this app is an afterthought. It would take one person at the Mag 5 minutes to tell that their beautiful and interesting content is being served to readers in a very bad way.

I don't expect the people at PG to be experts at apps. But it is clear no one at the Mag looks at the app at all. Whoever manages the content in app form is not even testing their own work and has no low bar for accepting quality. They could at least go through the complete issue and catch the numerous problems that compound on each other.

A complete shame such great content is unreadable in app form. And no one at PG is seemingly aware of it.

### 2/5 — Love the mag, but the app is buggy

*2017-06-21, version 33.2.3*

I see the latest version is for improvement in customer satisfaction. Bug fixes in any other language. To be fair though, it's getting better...

### 1/5 — Not readable without Internet access

*2017-05-25, version 33.3*

The magazine is great but the app will not let you read it unless connected to the Internet. For frequent travelers such as myself this makes reading the magazine nearly impossible...

### 1/5 — Good content, bad app

*2017-04-15*

App crashes repeatedly. Video features for gear reviews and first-looks crash frequently, saying "no connection". App constantly displays a banner ad encouraging you to subscribe. Even if you are subscribed. The banner ad also throws off the layout of the magazine itself. Restoring purchases does not fix. Restarting app does not fix. Rebooting iPad does not fix. Deleting and reinstalling app does not fix.

Articles and reviews and top notch; best in the industry. A shame I can't read them on the app. Magazine deserves better treatment.

### 1/5 — Don't download

*2017-04-02, version 33.2.3*

Great magazine with absolutely the worst user interface ever. Issues take forever to download, articles are difficult to read. And it gets worse. Totally frustrating especially since the actual content is excellent.

### 1/5 — Terrible UI

*2017-04-02, version 33.2.3*

Long time subscriber. Love the magazine but this is the most annoying interface of any of the digital magazines I subscribe to. Can't download or manage subscription, unable to thumb through issues easily, persistent ads popping up in valuable screen real estate at top of page, and slow and clunky reading experience. Almost given up on reading this mag at all. Really, really terrible app!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Buggy beyond words

*2026-01-28*

This has always been a terrible app. It crashes a lot, can’t decide if you are looking at single page or 2 page spread, forgets what you have bought, on and on. Other than the articles, I can’t think of anything about this app that works right. I tried to renew (definition of insanity) and the “subscribe “ button only takes me to terms and conditions.

### 1/5 — Never works

*2025-06-29, version 34.43*

I subscribed to the print and digital magazine together. This app never works. It always wants you to purchase everything, even after I have logged in using the password and username sent directly to me from PG. I will be canceling my subscriptions

### 1/5 — What Is The Purpose?

*2024-12-25*

I have to believe that PG is not interested in having recurring subscriptions. Many login issues and when you I tap on the subscribe button I’m taken to a page with no way of actually paying for and finalizing the subscription. I guess I will just stick to the email newsletter. ADVERTISERS SHOULD TAKE NOTE.

### 1/5 — Total junk

*2024-01-25*

Don’t waste your time

### 1/5 — First use as a subscriber - Can’t log in

*2022-08-13*

Welp despite the bad reviews I decided to give the app a try, to find one of my favorite PG articles. “Unable to find login credentials”. That’s a rough first step, so into the trash this app goes. Wouldn’t PG be better off pulling this app from the store until they can provide basic functionality? Love the magazine but the app is a dud.

### 1/5 — Haven’t been able to sign in

*2022-04-04*

Great magazine, and I’ve subscribed for another two years, but while I’ve had access to the app ever since they started it I’ve never been able to sign in to link my account. In this day and age that is an epic failure.

### 1/5 — paid subscription but app does not show my subscription

*2021-06-30*

I paid for a subscription so why do all the issues show a subscribe button? I SHOULD BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD MY ISSUES THAT I HAVE SUBSCRIBED FOR. what gives?

### 1/5 — App never works

*2020-08-12*

Great magazine but this app has always had problems since I first subscribed 3 years ago, and apparently they never read reviews or care once they have your money. Now I simply can’t open.

### 1/5 — Cannot Sign In with iPad

*2020-05-04, version 34.30*

Does not allow me to log in, cannot create a new account, no option for forgotten password, and no support options. I am able to login on desktop PC and Android phone, but not iPad. Please help!

### 1/5 — Great magazine, useless app.

*2020-03-19, version 34.30*

Just signed up and created an account, which the app has completely rejected. Prompted to enter a username on the app; when I created an account on the website, I wasn't prompted to create a username. I guess I'm going to have to stick with online until they fix this awful app.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2019-11-07, version 34.30*

Love the content, love the app!

### 5/5 — For price can't lose

*2013-11-26*

Best guitar mag around

### 5/5 — Awesome love the text formatting

*2012-05-17, version 5.0*

Easy to read and good content

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2012-04-28*

This app is awesome. You can read all the old articles for free

### 5/5 — Simply the best. Subscribers rejoice!!!

*2012-02-21, version 5.0*

Amazing. I am a subscriber and I get to carry my subscription in my pocket WITHOUT paying extra. Premier Guitar is a true class act.

### 4/5 — Links

*2012-06-24, version 5.0*

A great mag, but on the instrument sample links don't work which is a great shame - and some would say an essential part of this mag. Hope they get it sorted.

### 4/5 — Reviews and Video still crash

*2012-02-12*

It was ok when the magazine was free, but now you should really fix the Video and Review under the Feeds section, which still crashes when trying to open!

### 3/5 — For those with login issues

*2025-01-24*

Note do not use your subscription login password to login to the app. Check your subscription and a different password is listed for the app. Ludicrous that this is the case but there you go! In general my biggest problem with the app is the glacial download time if it actually works…

### 3/5 — Updated review

*2022-12-22, version 34.43*

After the initial debacle of trying to get the app to recognize me, I got an email from PG telling me to use my username BUT to use a different password. It actually works and now I have to download everything that is available to me and that is going to take a while. I like the app now that I have been able to use it finally. My apologies to the code writers and programmers for the scathing original review. You could do better by streamlining the process to begin with and make it easier from start to end with the whole process. Thank you PG for the best dang magazine in print and hopefully the app continues to be a source of inspiration for my muse

### 3/5 — Doesn't remember progress

*2017-09-04*

Every time you launch the app you have to select issue and are dropped on first page of it.

Also has an additional ad bar on top, even tho I have a paid subscription. The top bar is clumsy.
