I also like that it gives multiple trials so that the child gets several opportunities with the selected positions. Great app for therapy! ### 4/5 — Great app overall! *2019-05-01* As a SLP, I love using this app with my kiddos who need work on identifying prepositions. The children really like the pictures and use of the iPad to target their goals. I like that you can work on specific prepositions then add contrasted learning with other prepositions. The only think I would change is the sensitivity of where you select, often little fingers get close but not on the hotspot and they don’t get it correct. However, when I try to email to myself, the email won't go away after sending or after pressing cancel. Yesterday I thought it didn't send and I sent it to myself 10 times. And since it won't go away, I can't use the app for my next student. ### 4/5 — Good app for therapy! *2013-03-02* I am an SLP in a school, and I really like Preposition Remix as I am always looking for more ways to teach prepositions and following directions. This app is good for kids that need to learn to follow simple directions or work on basic spatial I like the option to choose only specific prepositions that you want to work on. This app also keeps data for you and gives you an accuracy percentage at the end of the session which is great. I also like that you have to touch the specific object for the answer to be correct. For example, if the direction is to touch the baby in the basket, you have to specifically touch the baby and not just the basket. There are a couple things I would change. I would like to be able to keep data on more than one student at a time, as currently you cannot. Also, when a student picks a correct answer, the screen stays the same and the only reinforcement is auditory (either a beep for a wrong answer or a person talking for a correct answer). I would like to see some sort of visual reinforcement if the student picks the correct answer (i.e. the picture could be highlighted or a smiley face could appear on the screen indicating a correct answer). I think this would help reinforce correct answers for children that have receptive language difficulties. I do wish there was an option for picking which prepositions to work on for the session and they weren't just randomly assigned. Some of my kids need work on certain prepositions, but I'm not able to select which ones they do or do not work on in this app. ### 5/5 — Great speech app *2012-09-26* This app is a great addition to my therapy tools. I like the fact that it keeps overall accuracy as well as specific preposition accuracy. The only picture I have not been a fan of is the "find the glasses out of the case". This is because the glasses are on the case and the case is black so it looks as though every pair is in a case and my kids usually get it wrong. I like the different customization options as well. Please be aware that in order to get an answer correct you have to touch the specific area and not just a general area. For example, if it says touch the man under the stone, then you need to touch the man and not the stone if you want a correct answer. I can see how this feature can cause some people to think the app doesn't work, but i like that Smarty Ears set up the app this way. You provided great customization tools by allowing us to choose what prepositions to work on, what type of audio reinforcement, and if we want written cues, which are very handy at times. I like that data is taken and shown at the end and that you show us overall accuracy and specific data on each preposition targeted. There is a nice info page for anyone that needs to review how to use the app. I would like it if there was a skip button, but it's not that big of a deal. To the people complaining about bugs/not accepting answers, I use to think there was something wrong with it as well, but there isn't. When it gives the directions, ex. "Touch the cat in front of the bucket", you have to touch the cat to get a correct response because that's what the directions asked for. It would be different if you were presented with two separate pictures and asked, "Which picture shows the cat in front of the bucket?", but this app is not set up like that. I like that the developer made it so that the child has to completely follow the directions and select the target that is under, on, etc. and not just the general area. When I had the audio set to 'buzz' my younger kids always thought they got it wrong and would go for another part of the picture so I set it to 'no response' and I would praise them and guide them to touch the correct spot. So far, many of my kids, even the younger ones have learned to pay closer attention to the directive and touch the correct target and not just the general area. I hope this helps. I also love that it tracks data for you. One thing I'd like to see changed is that you have to touch RIGHT ON the target item for the app to track it as correct. Not always ideal for the kids with fine motor control issues. Maybe widening the area a bit for correct responses would be helpful. ### 5/5 — Amazing app! *2012-09-21, version 1.2* I have been looking for an application that targets prepositions with a field of objects to determine if the students understand the different concepts. My speech kids love the picture and like to comment on them (i.e. the woman "in" the shopping cart). The app calculates the percentage correct making it extremely easy to document. The pictures are odd looking and sometimes when students don't touch the correct picture in an exact area, they get the selection wrong, even though it is the right picture. The voices are annoying as well as the sounds associated with the app. I am VERY disappointed and do not recommend this app at all. I used it with my speech students today and it was not a good app at all.... a waste of money. ### 1/5 — Crashes way too frequently *2012-03-28, version 1.2* This app would be amazing but it crashes all too often and buzzes as if an answer is incorrect when it actually is correct. When you're working with a very young population this really takes a toll on them. ### 1/5 — Don't buy at the moments *2012-02-02, version 1.2* Just downloaded this app today (2/212). Do not buy at the moment as has a major bug. See the other user's report of the same problem back on November 18th. It does not recognize when a correct response is selected. Happened when I was working on concepts behind and in front. I have written to company to ask if it is going to be fixed ASAP. All it adds is student tracking. ### 2/5 — Need very fine motor skills *2019-04-29* Bought this expensive app for a child with autism and when he is a millimeter off the intended object it provides a negative reinforcer. When an object is behind an object, the app expects you to be able to touch the tiny piece that is sticking out. At one time, there was a question about a dog beside a woman, when the correct answer was a dog pictured beside a little girl. For the cost, this is unacceptable and I'll be seeking a refund. Hope this review helps others and I hope the producers make the necessary adjustments to the app t make it more useful and accurate. **Developer response:** Most of the concerns seem to stem from an inadvertent misunderstanding of the “settings” There is a “settings” button on the bottom right corner of the main menu. This allows you to turn off the “buzz” reinforcement and offers 2 other choices: “no response” or “keep going”. if you turn off the “buzz,” and select “no response” you can give the child with delayed or poor fine motor skills multiple attempts to touch the correct area. The app is very specific with helping teach prepositions. What sometimes gives a few individuals difficulty is that they must follow the directions precisely. For example, when it says "find the turtle behind the ball" the student must touch the actual turtle NOT the ball as the ball would still be an incorrect answer. Explaining this to the student typically resolves any issues and they become more thoughtful of where they touch. You are correct to point out that we currently have one typo on the app amongst the hundreds of target questions. We are planning on fixing the typo on the next update. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. ### 2/5 — Still Errors *2016-06-03, version 3.3* This app still has errors. It continues to mislabel items after responses. ### 2/5 — I want to love this app *2013-02-01* The children with whom I work are multiply handicapped and for the most part don't have great fine motor skills. My frustration with this app is that they are deemed in error if they don't touch the target item exactly. This in turn renders the data collection totally useless. I also wish there was a way to turn off the comments that are generated when the kids choose the correct item. My kids are visual learners and the auditory reinforcement isn't always helpful. The other thing that I wish I had control over is the time between each new page; I'd like to be able to discuss the pictures more. ### 2/5 — Needs some fixes *2012-05-11* A little disappointed in this Smarty Ears app. Haven't used all the prepositions yet but found problems with "in and above" I touched the correct picture but the buzzer sounded. Unfortunately, I have encountered multiple issues with the app stating that an incorrect answer was correct. So far, I've only used on top of and in the middle.
