A prepositional verb is an idiomatic expression that combines a verb and a preposition to make a new verb with a distinct meaning.   

Some prepositional verbs are: care for, long for, approve of, deal with, engage in, base on, count on, derive from, respect for, transform into, accuse of, absorb into,  etc.
