My son is 4 and has autism. He struggles with using correct preposition and this app is helping him learn them. I have noticed, though, that some of the pictures/questions seem a little too advanced or complex for his age group. I do wish the app could be divided into age groups. I know that's hard for kids on the spectrum...their skill level is rarely at the same typical peer level but some guidelines for at least preschool age and elementary age would be helpful. ### 4/5 — Well designed educational App! *2012-08-15, version 1.2* This app is great for young kids 1st to 2nd grade to teach them to distinguish prepositions such as on, in and under, and the pictures are fun and sentences simple enough to keep them interested. The pictures are very colorful and I love the visuals given with the wrong answer to improve understanding of why the answer is wrong. For future development it would be helpful for the initial screen when it first opens to be easier for the child to initiate play on their own; also a sentence reading option would be nice for children not yet able to read. ### 5/5 — 2 Thumbs Up *2012-08-14, version 1.2* I was very impressed with Preposition Builder. It's easy enough for your younger littles to learn grammar and fun enough for the older kids to not realize it's "school." Mine asked me over and over to play that new "game" again. Easy to use and with cute pictures, it's just an excellent resource. I love the little animations that make them work for the incentive to see what happens next in the story. We're definitely hooked. Both my eight year old and six yea old love it! ### 5/5 — Wonderful app! *2012-08-11, version 1.2* This is a well put together app. I am very thrilled with it and how it will help visually understand prepositions. The pictures really put it together if a child selects the incorrect word instead of being wrong it shows why it is incorrect in a funny way that distracts IMO from them getting or becoming frustrated by it. I love the positive reinforncement for being correct. Having kids with SN this is very important; however, I recommend this to and for all children. The features of this App are helpful to learning how to build sentences correctly. I wish I would have had this App growing up to help me distinguish between certain words, such as on and in, etc. Hopefully an update to this App could include a voiceover of the sentence before the user is the pick the correct word in addition to saying the complete sentence after the correct word has been chosen. Preposition Builder is no exception! It is a wonderful tool for children under 10! My only suggestion might be to allow parents to change the number of questions each round or to put "real" pictures in it instead of all cartoon, but the app is a wonderful loearning tool! I know we will be using it for a long time. ### 5/5 — Well designed app *2012-08-10, version 1.2* I particularly like that if the student selects the incorrect answer, it shows a picture that corresponds with their incorrect answer. ### 4/5 — Good app for learning prepositions *2012-08-10, version 1.2* This app would be helpful for any elementary student as the explore the often confusing realm of prepositions. However, where this app really shines is in the way the lessons are broken down. You can tell the creators know their stuff, as the commonly misused prepositions are combined within a lesson, affording a great opportunity for students to focus on specific "challenge" words. The level unlock is a fun way to reward the learners; my only suggestion would be to add some animation to the lessons themselves (e.g. Show the animals going "in" the forest). Keep up the good work! ### 5/5 — Very easy to use... *2012-08-10, version 1.2* This app is great and easy to use. You drag the prepostions into the sentence and if you are rong it will show AND tell you what was wrong. For example, if you drag the word "in" and not "under" (if under is the correct word) it will show you what "in" looks like so you can see it, not just hear and not just say you got it wrong- I love that!~ ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — This used to be a good app before it stopped working! *2025-01-23* I haven’t used this app in a while but I just tried it after not using it for a couple years and it no longer works. I taught Pre-K and K skills for many years in childcare. I also tutored local elem school students in the school breaks and summers who struggled with reading. All the the time, I online schooled my 2 special needs children (one of whom is autistic). For Pre-K,K and struggling readers - I would recommend this app. I really encourage parents to read reviews and objectively consider their child's strength's. My own autistic son did not benefit from this app as much as others - but NOT due to any fault on the developer's part. ### 3/5 — Good with one issue *2018-02-21, version 1.53* I like this app a lot; however, the one thing that seems to of been taken away since I originally was using this app is the fact that I can’t check which Prepositions I want target. Builder *2012-08-11, version 1.2* Similar to Rainbow Sentences in that you click and drag the correct answer into place. The pictures are cute and will appeal to kids. I like that the concepts are from very basic (in, on, under) to more complex (beside, between, etc.). My one suggestion would be to have an option to have the sentence read before choosing as well as be able to hear the choice words read aloud. This app has a good basis, it does have some grammatical issues. And I think some of the groupings should be different. But my son is enjoying the app with some correction from me. ### 4/5 — Great for consistency and pace, but only for readers *2020-04-01, version 1.53* Hi - this was easily the best such app for my 4yo bilaterally cochleae implanted daughter, until I realised that it doesn’t read out the sentence aloud - the child has to be able to read! It would be great if it could read out the sentence to be completed! ### 4/5 — Great app for teaching prepositions! *2013-11-04* PrepositionBuilder™ is a fantastic app to teach children a wide variety of prepositions. You can choose from 9 different modules, each of which target 3 specific prepositions. The app uses fun cartoon pictures to depict each sentence, including the preposition, and children need to select the correct preposition, then drag and drop it into the sentence. This app supports multiple users, and has options for turning off audio instruction and correct answer reinforcement. There are no ads or social links. My son enjoys learning with Mobile Education apps, so he was a little disappointed that he had to wait through an entire module (about 21 questions) for a reward animation. I would like to see the ability to change the frequency of the reward animation in settings, as it is in several other apps by this developer. I do recommend this app though. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Great app for teaching prepositions *2014-04-27, version 1.30* This app is a great visual app for teaching prepositions. My son finds it very motivating and enjoys the animated reinforcers when he has a correct answer. I do think this app is more appropriate for readers since they are expected to drag the correct answer into a sentence. I don't think it would be as helpful for pre-readers. ### 5/5 — Love it! *2013-12-05, version 1.30* We have seen great improvement with my son since starting to work with this app. Love that there is a feature for reinforcement when he gets an answer correct. With the drag and drop feature we are also working on his fine motor skills. Fantastic app! ### 5/5 — Awesome app for kids with autism *2013-03-21* Preposition Builder makes use of errorless teaching and applied behavior analysis methodologies to teach and evaluate understanding of prepositions. Like other Mobile Education Store apps, Preposition Builder can keep track of progress of multiple students in a class. Prior to starting an exercise, the teacher (or student!) can choose which prepositions are being evaluated, and whether or not to record the student’s voice reading each sentence. A series of short story animations can be unlocked with each completed section. This provides incentive for students to complete the exercises so that they can find out how the story ends. To provide documentation of student progress, Preposition Builder allows reports to be emailed to students or teachers. My only recommendation for future updates to this program would be the ability to email progress reports for ALL students (or perhaps an option to print?). Depending on the number of students in a class, it can become tedious sending individual records for each student. ### 5/5 — Almost perfect... *2013-02-05, version 1.25* If only it had a read aloud option.... ### 5/5 — great app *2012-08-20, version 1.2* I love this app. I use it in my speech therapy and I like how it shows the preposition if the child picked the wrong one. My students like it too. This app encourages reading, speaking, drag-n-drop kinetic learning and modeling. It has a record feature that can strengthen pronunciation and fluency. Data collection and recording make measuring even incremental progress a breeze! As an added bonus it has a fun animated reward system! ### 5/5 — Wonderful! :) *2012-08-15, version 1.2* Although this app is still too advanced for my ASD son, my 7 year old daughter had fun playing with it. I love that the app is interactive and encourages the user to rethink a choice when selecting an incorrect answer. She did not get discouraged and wanted to play more and more. Another fantastic app by Mobile Education! :) ### 5/5 — Wonderful App *2012-08-15* I wanted to let you know we are enjoying the PrepositionBuilder app. It has a wonderful video tutorial and is easy to navigate. We could customize it for our child and it was also very easy for him to navigate. He enjoyed the pictures that made the work more of a game, the fact he could record his voice and the fact he could create a pirate story as he achieved correct answers along the way. I feel this app is an excellent resource for children learning their prepositions and think the target group is quite broad (4-10). You will get your money's worth. ### 5/5 — Wonderful app! *2012-08-14* I love this app! I love that it combines visual and auditory learning, making it more concrete in my 7 yr olds brain. The best feature is that they provide a visual when a child chooses the wrong word for the sentence. This really provides my boy a chance to really think about what he is seeing and hearing and gives him another chance to process it correctly. The only thing I wish it had was the option to automatically read the sentence. If your child can not read, you will definitely need to use this app with him/her. I don't see that as a bad thing though :) Well worth the money! ### 5/5 — Wonderful App!!! *2012-08-14* What a wonderfully designed app! It allows you to track which prepositions your child has mastered and which still require more practice. The visuals are priceless. Even when a child chooses an incorrect response, they show you the image that matches the incorrect word, allowing children to compare the visual images represented by both prepositions. It also gives you the option to record the correct answer. This allows children to personalize the preposition they have mastered with their own voice.
