### 3/5 — Some answers are wrong or the explanation is wrong.

*2026-01-01*

Questions about the inclination and HCL vs CF give wrong answers or the explanation is incorrect. One question says CF is greater in explanation but example answer figure clearly indicates a greater HCL.

### 2/5 — No progress tracking/memory

*2025-06-26*

No session/scoring trackig of any kind, you need to start over again and again and again if you get interrupted during a longer session, and you cannot exclude the questions you have already mastered no problem. Also, study mode should include a default option to only present the correct answer to a question, rather than multiple choices which are in obvious conflict with the basic learning principle of primacy and makes studying ineffective.

### 3/5 — Not the same as the test

*2023-07-11*

10 years ago when I took the commercial test, the questions and answers were identical to the test but recently when I took the cfi test after studying very hard for it on this app I took the test after scoring 100 at least five times on the app but when I took the test, the questions and answers were completely different for about 50% of the test in other words this app is pretty good, but I recommend for you to study the books as well.

### 3/5 — Can’t see question number on iphone

*2023-05-03*

I’ve used various asa test apps to study for all of my writtens. For whatever reason, the CFI study app on my iphone won’t show what question number I’m on which is a little frustrating. It would also be nice to do a mock test that pulls from all the subject areas but still allows you to see the answer without having to grade the test.

### 4/5 — Great review app

*2022-10-15*

Took my FIA Exam today, and passed, and owe a lot of credit to this app.

It’s simple, but thorough, explains concepts well. The database is a little out of date, as there were some new questions I hadn’t seen the concept before.

### 2/5 — Study mode is pointless

*2022-09-07*

Study mode should include a default option to only present the correct answer to a question, rather than multiple choices which are in obvious conflict with the basic learning principle of primacy and makes studying ineffective. It’s a fundamental and unnecessary shortcoming of this software.

### 2/5 — No FOI question bank

*2022-02-11, version 1.55*

Bought this specifically for FOI question bank. When I enter study mode it lists “0” questions for the FOI category despite the app description saying that the app covers it.

### 3/5 — Overview

*2021-08-18*

First of all, I’d like to reflect that the questions in the app were NOT exactly like the questions on the FAA written test. They were similar and contained the similar ideas, but were not identical, like the way it used to be (I took my last FAA written in 2012). Since the ideas were similar, it still helped me to pass with a score of 86%. But in the future, I would like to use the app that preferably uses the same exact questions for practice.
Also, like most here mention, the questions were not grouped by topic, but were all assembled into a single 271-question database, which was somewhat inconvenient.

### 4/5 — Good app

*2020-11-09*

At first I couldn’t find FOI questions, but turns out they actually exist in the app, but they are accessible only as a separate rating. This is quite confusing.

### 3/5 — Dark mode and FOI Catagories

*2020-09-21*

Overall this is great it could use some updating and tweaks. First, the FOI really needs categories. Second, dark mode support is abysmal. If you have your iPad in dark mode you can barely see the fonts. I had to change my iPad back to light mode to use this app.

### 3/5 — The colors are inverted.

*2020-05-14*

The colors are inverted on my iPad and the word text is white on white. It’s so hard to see and study. The iPhone one is working. But on the iPad not that great.

### 2/5 — No bueno for MCI

*2020-01-27*

If your taking the MCI for CFI add-on, don’t waste your money with this app. The question bank is too large. Sheppard Air is the way to go if you only want to studying questions that will be on your test.

### 3/5 — Good Prep Software

*2019-09-23, version 1.50*

It’s good for studying the test questions, however I do not see a different study module for Basic Ground Instructor vs Advanced Flight Instructor.

### 3/5 — I passed

*2018-03-17, version 1.47*

This app is adequate to get you prepared for the written exams, but it does not have every question that is on the real exam.

### 4/5 — FOI Questions Missing - Resolved

*2018-02-20*

I purchased this app to help me study for the multiple CFI written exams and the first that I will be taking is the FOI exam. I cannot study for the FOI exam with your app because the FOI section only has one question. Please help!

Tech support was able to help me to resolve my issue, so I’ve changed my rating, I can’t give it full 5 stars yet as I haven’t taken any of my written exams yet, but the outlook is hopeful. Thanks ASA!

### 3/5 — FOI Needs Categories

*2017-07-08*

The FOI questions are not separated into categories. All the questions are in one big bank so every time you want to study them you have to study all 273 questions. It is hard to reach every question in one sitting. Then if you exit out of it the questions start over.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — FOI

*2026-02-17, version 1.60*

Horrible way to learn, just shove all questions into a 270 question randomize folder. Not to mention the spelling and grammar errors. Really dropped the ball on this one. Would not recommend

### 1/5 — Do not use this for FOI.

*2024-02-15*

If you are going to use this make sure you do what your supposed to and understand the material not just these questions.

### 1/5 — None of the questions are up to date

*2023-11-04*

Studied for the foi using this app and was surprised to see 3 questions I studied from this Prepware on the written. Do not use if you want to know what’s on the actual exam.

### 1/5 — FOI

*2023-03-15, version 1.56*

FOI questions are missing.

### 1/5 — I recommend other Apps/Websited

*2022-05-19*

This is the worst tool you can use to prepare for the test. The only thing food about it is you don’t need internet while using it.

### 1/5 — Used ASA Prepware for FOI Exam

*2022-04-10*

I recently took my CFI Fundamentals of Instruction exam after studying with the ASA Prepware App. The database ASA are using in 100% out of date. Not a single question that was presented in the CATS test was featured in the ASA app. I have never been so unprepared going into a written test as I have after using tihs software. The ASA database is in urgnet need of being updated to reflect the current FAA question bank.

### 1/5 — OUT OF DATE FOI QUESTIONS.

*2021-02-26, version 1.53*

All the questions I had in the actual exam were not listed in this app.

### 1/5 — One question in FOI!! Please help!!

*2020-08-30, version 1.52*

There is only one question in the FOI section. This must be a mistake but the app support button takes me to a confusing website. Please help me

### 1/5 — Foi section

*2020-05-16, version 1.52*

Only one question in the foi section. That’s the only reason I needed this app. Can I get a refund?

### 1/5 — Chapters are not separated into topics

*2020-01-29, version 1.51*

I thought it would be just like the online prepware but it’s not. If you want to study FOI by topic you can’t, you have to study all 273 questions in one big quiz. I’d rather one topic at a time.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — This is a tool not an easy button

*2022-04-29*

I see a lot of bad reviews and the reality is that this is a supplement. You are studying to be a pilot so don’t be lazy and open your actual books! This is not meant to be stand alone study material. It is intended to give you an idea of what the test will look like and help you narrow down what areas you need to study more. I bought several of these apps back in 2016 and passed all my tests in the high 90s (private, instrument and commercial). I even recently used them to help me pass my tests for CFI and they did a great job of showing me areas that needed more attention after being out of school for several years.

### 5/5 — Solid test prep

*2021-09-03*

This was my main source of test prep. I was very happy to see the questions on the actual FOI test were very similar to those practiced. While there were some that were different, or worded differently, the ideas were the same. Be sure to select FOI for the main menu as the FIA subject doesn’t have questions under FOI, that is something that should be changed, but it is there. Good luck!!

### 5/5 — Very helpful

*2020-03-24*

I used this app to study for my FOI and FIA. It was really helpful. I recommend this app for studying.

### 5/5 — Very useful

*2019-05-12*

I used this for my FIA and FOI and they are exactly the same as Sheppard Air, except Sheppard Air costs $45 and this only costs $10. I passed both of those exams a while ago. Whenever I was home I would use Sheppard Air but whenever I was out or needed a quick review, this app is useful. In fact, I would recommend using this one everytime.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2016-12-14, version 1.44*

I own all the ASA prepware, have never failed a written. Even for non-pilot writtens like AGI and such. You do have to put a little more work into it, there are more questions on these than other preps but the practice tests give you the answers. Even the questions that aren't on the written still teach you quite a bit. For the money, you can't go wrong.

### 5/5 — Great buy

*2015-05-04, version 1.36*

I bought this APP thinking it was going to take me a week to study for my written. I got done with everything in a day and a half and got an 80%. Not bad for $10. I recommend this product because it is useful on the go and not have to bring your books with you.

### 5/5 — Recommend

*2014-05-14, version 1.33*

I love it, it helped me a lot to pass my faa knowledge exam. Thank u

### 5/5 — Finally!

*2013-04-27, version 1.28*

Was waiting for ASA to release prepware for iPad! It has most of the same features as the pc software and the price is fantastic (compared to ~$40 per dauntless). Will re-review after I take my FOI, CFI-A and AGI

### 5/5 — Great

*2012-07-26, version 1.25*

I am not sure what everyone else is talking about, maybe they have poor study habits.

I use this app to prepare for my written test. I missed 2 questions and I was able to take the test in a short amount of time. Out of the 2 I missed, one was my fault, the other was a FAA "test" question.
No excuse to barley pass with this app!

### 5/5 — CFI Initial

*2011-05-04, version 1.22*

Been using this prep software to study. It's been helping me to think a lot to fit the roll as a professional flight instructor. I try to answer the questions without looking at the multiple choice answers first and dig my way through my resources of materials to find the answer. Should be great practice for the real test.
