### 3/5 — Definitely not 100% accurate

*2025-12-04*

Now don’t get me wrong Prepware is one of my favorite apps when it’s comes to studying for writtens I use it for everything. Private pilot, airframe mechanic, powerplant mechanic, general written exam for mechanics, and now my instrument. So I’m very familiar with this app and it’s accuracy for writtens and usually it is spot on when it comes to question answers and wording but for my instrument rating airplane it was different. I studied hard on it taking quizzes and scoring 90’s so I said it’s time for the real written to be taken. I went I took it I failed and I was amazed how many questions I had never seen. So I beat myself up and studied harder and went back to take the written again and once again I saw questions I had never even seen before and got an even lower score after studying even more. So I did what I didn’t want to do cause I don’t care for the software and switched to Sheppard air and I have to admit almost 80%+ of the questions on there were worded entirely different and there’s 200+ more questions to study. So not only did prepware let me down with the wording of questions but it also doesn’t have the entire written question bank. All I ask from prepware is to make sure all their software is up to date and has all the questions the FAA has for each written.

### 3/5 — Some figures are not loaded and some are wrong figures not belong to the question

*2022-06-02, version 1.55*

Some figures are not loaded and some are wrong figures not belong to the question

### 3/5 — Good, for only 40%

*2021-01-18*

Worth 10$ thou
Helped me to get ready for written

### 4/5 — Dark Mode Broken

*2020-05-08*

Dark mode breaks the look of the app with latest versions of iOS and iPadOS. Otherwise a great study tool.

### 3/5 — ASA Instrument lacking in questions

*2019-05-08*

Not one question from the ASA app for Instrument was on my written. I took the test April of 2019. ASA was great for private just not Instrument. After my test, I found all the questions from my written test in another test prep software. Some of my peers said all there questions were ASA questions so I guess it is look. Sheppard Air had about 500 additional study questions. I like the ASA app format better than Sheppard Air, but Sheppard Air has all the questions.

### 4/5 — I Passed...

*2019-02-06*

If you sit down and get focused this test prep will help you. Went to take my FII and IRA in the same day and passed both. Main studying came from the Prepware (outside of ground school). Great stuff and will be using for Commercial also!

### 2/5 — New Question Bank

*2018-11-17*

This app’s questions are out-dated. I took my instrument written in November of 2018 and there were maybe only 5 questions from the ASA test prep on there. My buddies who studied from (a different well known company) said that all of their questions were pretty much the same. I’m pretty disappointed as I loved the ASA’s Private Pilot app, but I think from now on I’m going to switch to a different company to study from for my commercial.

### 4/5 — Good app,however....

*2018-10-12*

It's strange to use on the iPhone xs Max because it can't fill the entire screen

### 3/5 — Doesn’t support iPhone X yet

*2018-05-16*

Taking my test soon so I’m not sure how well it has actually prepared me yet.

Complaints were made that it was out of date, seems there was an update after most of those reviews were written.

### 2/5 — Needs HUGE update for recent FAA changes

*2017-11-11*

I hate to give ASA a negative rating, because July 2016, their Private Pilot test app was DEAD ON!!! Questions were verbatim. I scored 98%. With the recent evolution to the FAA testing, this Instrument app question bank was no where near to some of the questions on the Instrument Airplane written exam. I'm not here to slam ASA, because they have great products, but just FYI, do not use this as a sole study method to pass the Instrument Airplane exam. Dauntless was my main app for studying, and even their question bank was lacking, it is an awesome app on explanations of correct answers and teaching principles. It is quite more expensive than ASA, but I owe Dauntless for my 90% score yesterday on the Instrument exam. But beware, the changes to the FAA question bank is real. The test was not easy at all. I've even heard Sheppard Air hasn't caught up to the recent changes. Good luck to all.

### 1/5 — Don't use this application

*2017-09-28*

After studying this app and taking multiple practice tests scoring in the 90s I felt more than confident to take the actual exam.. come to find out I took the actual exam today and failed scoring a 68. At least half of the exam didn't contain questions from this APP.

### 2/5 — Questions Not Current

*2017-08-17, version 1.45.2*

I just took the Instrument Rating Airplane and got an 80. On this app and on ASA's website I have gotten only between 90s-98s on the last 15-20 practice tests I took. I would say at least 60% of the questions on the actual test I had never seen before, nor had I even seen similar-type questions. I would recommend looking into another program to study.

### 1/5 — Wrong questions

*2017-08-10*

This app needs to be updated! The questions on this app are not the questions on the test.

### 1/5 — Needs to have questions corrected

*2017-08-05*

Many of the question/answer pairings make no sense or are incorrect.

### 1/5 — Many questions are wrong

*2017-07-18*

I studied very well, I was getting more than 95% grade score on the app, when I went to do the test it was completely different and some questions weren't mentioned in ASA app at all, so be careful , besides that many questions were answered in a wrong way in the app.

### 1/5 — Crippled to the point of uselessness

*2017-03-21, version 1.45*

This app allows marking of questions (presumably so you can review them later). The problem is the marking is removed when you return to the main menu, which makes the marking pointless. Another problem is wrong answers are not recorded, so there is no way to go back and review answers. In sum, not worth the price.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Terribly optimized for iPad, missing core features

*2026-07-01*

I am really disappointed with the Prepware app on iPad. The programming feels very old-fashioned and lacks features that should be standard for test prep software, such as the ability to focus specifically on previously incorrect answers.
The formatting issues make studying very difficult. Text frequently gets cut off depending on how you hold the device. I find myself constantly switching between portrait and landscape modes just to read full questions because the app cannot dynamically scale text. I hope the developers push out a major update to fix these basic functionality and display bugs soon. When addressing that to the support, I didn‘t receive a follow up reply after their initial standard reply.

### 1/5 — Not good at all

*2023-10-06*

The worst app , some question does not even have de figures and some of the figures has nothing to do with the question . I want my money back

### 1/5 — Gleim is Better

*2022-04-04*

Although this app has a positive side, which you don’t need internet to use. However, the sequence of the questions are always random and doesn’t keep your progress nor does it provide any reports of performance.

### 1/5 — Awful for rotorcraft students

*2021-07-14*

There’s a large number of fixed-wing specific questions in the rotorcraft section.

### 1/5 — New update is incredibly inconvenient

*2020-11-19*

The app was decent prior to the new update, but now the correct answers are no longer shown in green when grading an unanswered practice test. This makes studying extremely time consuming and not worth the money.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2019-09-26, version 1.50*

After taking about 50 practice exams with this program and scoring in the 80s-90s I felt very confident that I would do well on the written. Took the test today (Sep. 26 2019) and saw about three questions on the actual test that I saw in all the practice exams and study sessions. I squeaked by and passed but was really disappointed to see over 55 questions that I had never seen before. Very sad because ASA was key to passing my private written but i think I’ll be going with another software company from here out. Highly recommend you don’t use this app as your sole study source for the instrument written.

### 1/5 — Working on instrument rating

*2019-08-01, version 1.50*

The private was on point, I recommend alternative means for instrument studying.

### 1/5 — UPDATE THIS ASAP

*2019-06-19*

ASA is losing credibility having not updated such an important app for such a long time. Barely any questions on here filter through to the actual written!

### 1/5 — Comprehensive study tool, this is NOT!!!

*2018-03-12*

I spent £9.99 buying this app as describes itself as a comprehensive study tool. It has a study & test tab within but both just lead you to question banks.

### 1/5 — Please update

*2018-02-17*

I did yesterday the test and quite all the questions were different from the app. Be aware guys !

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — 97% on Instrument Written

*2019-10-22*

I read all the reviews and was nervous because many people said this did not adequately prepare them for the written exam. I spent just one week on the app and when I took the test for the first time on September 26, 2019 I got 97%. The app does not have identical questions to the FAA test, and that’s okay. It’s not supposed to. You are supposed to learn how the systems work and know how to apply them to any situation. This app does a great job of giving examples, and if you actually study what you are supposed to learn, you will pass the test easily. The skill of being a good pilot is not about having wrote memory and just regurgitating answers from an app. Use this as a tool to become a good pilot and you’ll do fine on the test.

### 5/5 — Fantastic app

*2017-09-20, version 1.45.1*

I used ASA prep ware to study for both my private and instrument written and I'm about to buy the commercial app to study for my commercial written. Thanks to this app I made an 82 on my instrument written. Although some of the questions were not word for word on the test, the principles remained almost spot on. As long and you understand why the answer is what it is instead of trying to memorize everything, you'll do great. Good luck!

### 5/5 — Just get it. It will be worth it.

*2016-08-17, version 1.42*

If you are serious about passing your written test, get this app.

### 5/5 — Great supplement

*2016-06-17, version 1.39*

The simple layout of this app is why I made the purchase. At this price prepware is a steal. I use the full price software when I have time to study in front of a computer and I use the apps when I am at work or school taking a break. The main issue I have is that the test questions don't update often enough, however, if you study the questions and understand the concepts this will help you pass either way! Buy the app! It will help!

### 5/5 — Best option for the $

*2016-01-29, version 1.38*

I have had no problems with any IPad version of prepware. I've gotten over 90% on all of my FAA written tests.

### 5/5 — great

*2013-10-24, version 1.29*

Same questions you'll find on the FAA written.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2013-03-17, version 1.27*

This is great, and so much cheaper than the computer versions!

### 5/5 — Nice & helpfully app

*2012-11-15, version 1.25*

I took my FAA written test for private studying from Asa's apps and I got good results! Now I'm preparing for the instruments rating test with this app! Thank you Asa for this incredible study material.

### 5/5 — Great Study Tool

*2012-11-06, version 1.25*

This app works well and is simple to use. There is one little problem I did just run into though, on some answers that are longer than the three lines of text that is provided, the end of the answer is cut off and impossible to read. Other than that, this is a great app. Good job ASA.

### 5/5 — Works

*2012-08-18, version 1.25*

This was the only thing I used to study for the instrument and FII test. I only had 5 days to study for the test so I ran out of time and wasn't able to go through all of the questions but I still got a 87% on the Instrument and a 90% on the FII. My advice is go through all of the questions until you know them then do the practice tests, it worked for me!
