### 3/5 — Somewhat disappointing

*2009-05-07*

As mentioned in the App Store description, there are four musical activities in this app. That's not entirely clear on the activity selection screen. (Preschool Adventure, the only other 3DAL app I have, is much better in this respect.)

The musical notes are clear, particularly from the piano (and on-key, as far as I can tell). The art is bold and colorful.

Activity 1, the undersea rhythm ensemble (not shown in a screen shot), is an interesting idea, which doesn't produce complicated rhythms, but illustrates a variety of (mostly) percussion sounds. The actual activity didn't interest me, but I'm not a preschooler.

Activity 2, the singing birds, lets the user control three parrots(?) singing a round. In my hands, it didn't sound very musical, but perhaps a preschooler would have better luck.

Activity 3 is the most complicated. It features a piano keyboard with one octave (C to C). The "white" keys are actually rainbow-colored (as shown in the App Store screen shot). You can only play one note at a time. (That's somewhat disappointing.) As you play a note, it appears on the musical staff above the keyboard, on the correct line or space, in the same color as the key you pressed. The note is added after any previous musical notes. At most six notes can be placed on the staff at a time, after which the oldest note scrolls off of the left end as a new one is placed at the right end. (Animating this scrolling would clarify what is happening.)

If you touch the parrot, he will sing the notes displayed on the staff. Each note is removed as it is sung. Though all notes are written as quarter notes, the rate at which they are sung varies quite a bit, according to no rule that I could figure out.

The keyboard also includes the black keys. Unfortunately, the black keys are too narrow for me to hit accurately. Perhaps they should be made a bit wider. (And they may be easier for my 4-year-old niece to hit, with her less-practiced, but narrower fingers.) These keys really are black. Each is marked in white with the letter from an adjacent key, and the appropriate sharp or flat. (See the screen shot.) If a black key is pressed, the colored note whose letter is marked on the key is displayed on the musical staff, in the appropriate color, along with the appropriate sharp or flat.

The black key feature does not seem as successful as the rest of the piano keyboard. The color correspondence is not maintained, and the underlying complexity of the musical notation starts to "leak through". So preschoolers are not going to understand the black keys. But if the intent is just to pique their curiosity, it may succeed.

Activity 4, the singing sheep, allows the preschooler to experiment with harmony, a bit. He can play a musical note by touching a sheep. He can play harmony by touching two sheep at once. And if he touches the bird, the bird and sheep will sing "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep", in one of two modes (harmony, with a flute accompaniment, or solo).

All in all, promising, but it needs work before it will reach the level of Preschool Adventure.

### 1/5 — Waste of money

*2012-02-05*

Greatly disappointed. No educational and very little entertainment value. One star because the piano part works ok.

### 1/5 — very annoying and no point to it

*2010-02-25*

i got this thinking it was going to be something useful and entertaining for my son (who's 2.5yrs) and he hardly plays with it. When he does the music is so distorted and cartoony I have no idea what they're singing and i know he doesn't either. a complete waste of a dollar if you expect anything to come from it. wish i never bought it.

### 1/5 — Total disappointment

Save yourself the $2. and buy something for your child that offers to challenge them. This app offered about 30 seconds of poor entertainment before my 3 year old wanted to do something else.

### 1/5 — Not even close to the others

*2009-05-19*

This game is no where the other preschool games from 3DAL. The songs are very aggrivating and the rhythm game does not make sense for preschool age children. Even after paying $0.99 I had deleted the game within 2 days because I could not take it anymore. They normally do great games but completely missed the mark on this one

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2009-05-06*

I have most of 3DAL's other apps. I bought this based on those purchases. Unfortunately, this one is the least successful of the three. I was excited to see a kid friendly music / learning from 3DAL, but this fell short.

### 2/5 — Needs Improvement!

*2010-04-12*

This app has so much potential! Other apps by 3DAL are great!!! This one looks good, but lacks in the area that you would purchase it for; MUSIC. The only reason I give this two stars instead of one is the keyboard portion of this app is ok. One suggestion for the keyboard is allow more memory so the parrot can sing a full song. Over all at this stage of the game...DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!

### 2/5 — It's okay.

*2009-10-29*

Piano board is cool. Thought it would be more engaging. Mabey some quizzes or flash cards of some type.

### 2/5 — Not happy

*2009-08-16*

We are unfortunately very disappointed in this game. The music is not so good. My daughter just quits the game after 1 minute. She loves music, but there is no enjoyable music in this game. It would been much nicer if it had some kids songs or classical music in it. She really likes the Preschool adventure and the Bee book that is why I got this app for her.

### 2/5 — Does not provide an enjoyable musical experience.

*2009-07-10*

"Songs" of the birds are not appropriate and sound bad, sheep musical range is very narrow and shallow, not to mention poorly sounding. Virtual piano does not allow for chords, so there is no opportunity to see and hear harmony. All in all a poor effort. Was deleted within minutes from my phone.

### 3/5 — 4yo liked half of it.

*2010-02-21*

My 4-year old niece enjoyed the app, for the most part. She really only played with the piano and the fish, not finding any interest in the other two. It kept her entertained for awhile, and that's all that mattered to me.

## Most praised reviews (9 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2011-05-25*

My 8 month old daughter loves this app from the fish to the trio singing this is awesome. Looking for more like this. Dont mind the negative. However, this app is suitable for small young babies. Not 3 yr old children. When I'm having trouble getting my daughter to settle down for bedtime bottle, if I turn on the aquarium she will settle right down. She loves when I change the fish. Ooooh please make more apps like the aquarium.

### 5/5 — good basic entertainer

*2010-02-19*

I bought this for my special needs 4 year old that loves music. She really likes the piano part of the app. It is a good basic entertainer. My normally developed 2 year old also likes it.

### 5/5 — Cute Music

Jamie is 2 and she loves this app. The music is really good. The graphics are cute and bright and it's a real attention holder.

### 5/5 — Fascinating App

*2009-05-03*

I got this for my 2.5 year old. She loves it, but I find myself playing with it more. I think this is the best app from 3DAL yet.

### 5/5 — Two year old loves it

*2009-05-02*

This is a nice change to the different apps out there for kids. This one is worth getting. My boy loves making music! Thanks

*2009-05-01*

### 5/5 — Making music fun!

*2009-04-27*

Great app! It really held my kids attention, with all the great shapes and sounds. I love how this app gets the kids interested in music and making music.

### 5/5 — Love the music!

*2009-04-27*

The music is great and the illustrations are so cute. My 2 and 4 year olds like the sheep and fishes games the best.

### 4/5 — Suggestion

*2009-04-29*

My son loves making music! wish it had more auto play songs. Maybe abc's, row row your boat, monkeys on the bed? Thank you!
