### 5/5 — Love this app!

*2021-07-08, version 9.9*

The app itself is very easy to use. There are lots of tools within the app in addition too the individual counseling. Journaling (which can be kept private or shared with the counselor), access to groups and seminars, texting, and worksheets. So helpful and no operating issues so far. Would recommend to everyone looking for online counseling!

### 5/5 — The best therapy I’ve ever had, hands down.

*2021-07-07, version 9.9*

The Pride Counseling service is extraordinary. I have Kaiser and their psych department is garbage in terms of getting appointments with therapists and ongoing care— when I found BetterHelp and that they have an LGBT+ service I signed up and it has been life changing for me. I have a very hard time making and keeping appointments, but texting and showing up for a video call at home are a lot easier for me. My therapist is amazing and has given me so many tools and support over the years that have truly made a huge difference in my life. I know it looks expensive, but it can be made affordable for you if you apply for the financial aid (and they basically lower your rate almost immediately when you ask for it with the little application online.. not sure if you can do it in the app though). I’m paying $99/month for unlimited messaging with my therapist and she always replies within a day if not within a few hours, and then every video session that’s scheduled like an appointment is an extra $35 for that one session. It’s well worth every penny. I don’t see myself ever changing my therapy source if I can help it at all. They are truly doing extraordinary work.

### 5/5 — Great Resource

*2021-04-12, version 9.9*

I was pretty skeptical about online therapy- I was uncertain about the quality of the therapist that could be provided, and how beneficial it could be. But in my case, as someone cannot afford in person therapy, Pride has been immensely helpful. My therapist responds to my personal issues quickly and intuitively. There are draw backs of course ( WiFi issues/ delay on the site), but for the price and help provided, it balances out.

### 5/5 — Great App, Great Therapists

*2020-07-21, version 9.7*

Especially useful if you prefer to text with your therapist, or prefer a more flexible schedule. The ability to easily request a new therapist is nice, no hard feelings on either part - everyone recognizes that sometimes you just don’t click and you need to connect with and trust your therapist. And the price is very reasonable for the service.

And I want to know what psychic they have doing their therapist matching, because everyone I know who has used the app has been matched with someone uncannily accurate for them. If you could forward me the winning lottery numbers?

### 5/5 — Life changing.

*2020-07-03, version 9.7*

I’m so glad that I reached out for help. My counselor has been awesome and I feel comfortable sharing everything with her. I can text her as much or as little as I want, which works with my busy schedule. I often message her in the middle of the night (I work night shift) and she messages back when she wakes up. I can tell her about an issue I want to work on and she provides me with worksheets and offers feedback. There’s an option to click off “urgent” so your counselor will respond quickly. It’s a bit expensive, but in my opinion this has been worth it. I can remain largely anonymous which is beneficial to me due to my profession. Thank you.

### 5/5 — Just What I Need

*2020-05-28, version 9.6*

I’m so thankful I made this part of my 2020 lifestyle change. I had tried traditional therapy in the past, but always hated taking so much time with commute and waiting. This fits my busy schedule and is honestly more affordable.
My counselor listens and engages with me in a way that benefits me. I feel like our talks have really helped me gauge myself and where I’m at each week.
I encourage therapy for EVERYONE, and this service is an excellent option!

### 5/5 — My counselor is so great

*2020-05-07, version 9.6*

The app works great for me and I really appreciate how much it seems to take protecting my identity seriously. My counselor has been super helpful so far and I haven’t had any issues making the technology work. I have had a couple of video calls drop on my laptop, but on the app the calls work great (my internet isn’t great so the calls dropping on laptop aren’t Pride’s fault, but it’s nice to be able to do the call in a “FaceTime style” format with my cell data as backup).

### 5/5 — Pleasantly Surprised

*2020-01-13, version 8.1*

There isn’t much to the app besides it’s basic functions. The payment option can be faulty. I struggled with failure to link my PayPal account.
The services are great though! It’s super easy to have a chat or whenever I have a pressing issue I can message my counselor and she can reach back out when she has the time. I enjoy the real-time nature. I can express myself as it’s happening and have a professional evaluate or help me along. The convenience of the app is wonderful as well! I only have to utilize my hour lunch instead of taking PTO to attend an appointment!
If you’re skeptical definitely give it a go!

### 5/5 — The Real Deal

*2020-01-02, version 8.1*

I've tested my fair share of therapy and mental well-being apps. I have to say that Pride Counseling has been incredible. The concept is executed really well here: true on-demand counseling with actually highly-qualified counselors. I do wish that the prices were lower and that insurance providers worked along with them because they are really the best in my opinion. If there are insurance providers that do work with them I feel confident I'd be willing to switch. It's that good.

### 5/5 — I’ve been to a lot of therapy

*2019-12-24, version 8.1*

I’ve been to a lot of therapy in my life cause I’m all messed up. I’ve done group therapy, one on one, art therapy, equine therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy...I did intensive therapy in eating disorder treatment. I didn’t think this would be a good platform for me as group therapy and one on one do work well. I thought this would be as useful as using a journal which I’ve personally never found helpful. Turns out just the fact that I know someone is reading what I write makes keeping a journal easy. Also if something happens right now I can immediately write what’s bothering me, even if the therapist won’t get back for a bit. This way I feel like the therapist can get a better idea since when I meet with an in person therapist once a week there is always stiff I forget. Anyways so far so good. Also don’t be afraid to request new therapists if the one you are paired with isn’t working. Their feelings won’t be hurt and you’ll get the support you need. Cheers!

### 5/5 — Convenient, easy to use, great platform

*2019-10-27, version 8.1*

Better Help/Pride Counseling is a great resource for anyone seeking help or just someone to talk to. They matched me with a great therapist who was able to fill me in on her schedule fairly quickly. I enjoy how easy and convenient it is to have access to my therapist at any given time, even if it’s just to chime in about how my day is going. The “homework” (journaling, etc) is an engaging tool for us and is a great tool for helping me to turn inward and document my progress. I greatly enjoy my time with my therapist and I highly recommend this platform for anyone that needs quick and easy (and cheap!) access to a great quality therapist.

### 5/5 — Really excellent

*2019-10-25, version 8.1*

I can only speak for my experience with my therapist, but I’ve had a really positive experience the past two-ish months of working with my therapist. He always responds in a timely manner and is always very helpful to talk to. The price range has also been really nice, especially only having a part time job.

I haven’t tried some of the other features like the seminars yet, but so far I’m very happy with the app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Lifesaver

*2022-02-26, version 12.3*

Edit: I have been using this app going on 3 years now. It’s always been good for me and I’ve hardly had any trouble. Now there are pop ups pressuring to schedule live appointments that I’m having to close every few minutes and support was no help. I will probably be deleting. Frustration and interruption is the exact opposite of what I’m looking for in therapy.

Ok so to start off with, this app isn’t for everyone. Not everyone will qualify and it won’t help everyone. But for me it saved my life. I’ve been using pride counseling for 9 months and my therapist is amazing. I hit it off with the first one I worked with and I message her whenever I need to and she gets back to me as soon as she can. Usually we talk every day. Traditional therapy wasn’t an option for me so online offered me what I needed where I needed it. The financial aid they offer is very helpful and the one time I had an issue with it, support reinstated it and refunded the difference. It’s worth every penny I spend on it and is cheaper than any other option I found.

### 1/5 — Expensive Service

*2021-07-28, version 10.0*

I’m not going to lie I’m not in a great place in my life and I got excited when I saw this app was catered towards folks in the LGBTQ+ community like myself. I thought we’ll this is great an all inclusive application for counseling and therapy services! And then I came across the price for using these services. I was qualified for financial assistance and it made my service seem to be a bit cheaper but I checked the prices again and it wasn’t looking good still. I’m unemployed, most of my family will not support me and I don’t even have funds to buy things I need on a daily basis. I’m really disappointed and saddened that the cost of service fee couldn’t be waived altogether for folks like me that desperately need service. If it was even merely $50 a month that’s more affordable to me. I don’t know what to say besides don’t expect to get this app unless you’re privileged and have the kind of money to spend just to seek help. Really sad :(

### 1/5 — Scam - you aren’t guaranteed weekly sessions

*2020-06-17, version 9.6*

This product is a scam and unfortunately I’m out $380. The only thing I can do at this point is voice my disappointment of this service.

They claim you’re guaranteed weekly sessions with your counselor. You’re not. After being matched with my counselor her first availability was 2 weeks out at 9p at night. If I didn’t select that session I would have had to wait 3 weeks for my first sessions.

My counselor responds to messages between 10p and 2am. So their “unlimited messaging” is with the understanding you can send as many messages as you want, but if your counselor only responds after you’re asleep, what good is that?

### 2/5 — I like the idea but this is so expensive

*2019-06-28, version 8.1*

I didn’t even use it, to be honest. But it’s as much as a modest car payment. I have insurance but don’t make a lot of money, but I suspect too much to qualify for any help. They don’t take insurance at all, which I think is obviously a failure of the medical system in general that mental health is out in a crapper. There’s a lot of help in speaking to a person face to face that this can’t replace, even with video chat (some, especially closeted might feel different), and for honestly more than a regular therapist because you could probably find one on a sliding scale. I don’t think I can go through with it. It’s like $60+/wk. Good idea y’all and there is definitely a market but given the needs of the community this seems really excessive and expensive for online therapy, which I don’t see as being as good, for most people.

### 4/5 — Great place to start

*2023-10-18*

I’ve always been terrified of therapy and after one session a lot of that anxiety is already going away. With one exception that I’ll mention later; this app does everything right to reduce anxiety and ease yourself in to the process of starting therapy. The questionnaire you start with is very thorough and helpful in finding the care you personally need. It’s all done from the comfort of home and you don’t have to download additional apps like Zoom to talk to anyone. And you choose your own schedule with very flexible counselors. Plus all of the additional features like journals, worksheets, and classes.

Only unfortunate issue is the placement of the paywall. Of course it’s not going to be free but it could’ve been done more tastefully. Immediately after you take a thought provoking and self reflecting questionnaire you’re hit with a “enter your credit card info to see your results!” like it’s a bad buzzfeed quiz. But trust me if you can make it past that unfortunately placed paywall you’ll be on your way to a very chill therapy experience

### 4/5 — Satisfied

*2023-06-21*

This is actually another platform of Betterhelp, which I have used. It appears that providers aren’t aware that you’ve reached them through Pride Counseling. This doesn’t necessarily take away from them understanding that you’re lgbtq. Having used betterhelp before, I find more flexible pay options through betterhelp. Example: if I only needed to meet once a month or no weekly live sessions, the Pride Counseling platform doesn’t seem as flexible unless you maybe reach out to customer service.

I will say that customer service response time is great and very helpful. I needed to find a counselor that does text responding and not just weekly sessions and they gave suggestions that my independent search on the app could not.

I like with my current therapist I can do phone sessions. Definitely less stressful than video or driving to a therapist in person. Much time saved. I’m a pretty busy person

### 4/5 — Great resource for folks new to LGBT+ exploration

*2022-11-11, version 12.12*

This service has been extremely helpful and supportive in my journey and I would recommend them to others needing support with LGBT+ issues.

My only complaint is that when I specified that I wanted an LGBT+ therapist (I.e. one who is also a member of the community) It ignored my request so I had to keep declining until I got one. I was able to match with a great therapist but I had to say “no” to a bunch of HIGHLY incorrect matches first.

If the developers are reading I hope that this feedback gets considered, as it is very easy in TX where I live to get matched with religious, anti-LGBT people and that could create a lot of harm, so I hope they fix this feature ASAP.

### 4/5 — Top notch!

*2022-02-03, version 11.7*

Price is definitely worth it, and they’re kinda flexible with what you can afford. The option to easily change therapists is really nice since I was able to find the therapist I really liked, but i rly hope I didn’t hurt any of my previous therapists’ feelings when I did. It would be nice if the 1 session per week limit was per session was per therapist, so that I could have found the one faster, but then I could definitely see where that kind of rule could be abused. If you’re seeking therapy for treatment or prevention, this is definitely the app to use!

### 4/5 — Easier than irl therapy

*2020-01-10, version 8.1*

I like that this app makes finding a therapist easier in certain ways, you don't have to call offices and worry about insurance etc..But sometimes I feel it's a bit too casual. I think therapists have different styles, just like irl you have good and bad therapists. You might have to try a couple different folks and hope your ideas and schedule align. After some switching/searching I finally found an awesome therapist!!

### 4/5 — Don’t settle if your counselor isn’t a good match - try again. Very expensive though.

*2018-10-03, version 6.4*

At first I had a counselor that didn’t really work for me, but after I switched just once I was really happy with the counselor that I got matched with. I should have switched sooner. Don’t hesitate to switch if you think it might help. Also, this service is really really expensive. Don’t waste money on a counselor who isn’t working for you. There are financial accommodations but I don’t know exactly what accessing them entails, I just pay full price becuaee I assume I wouldn’t qualify but I have no idea what that process is like or what’s offered. I feel like the service I’m getting from my current counselor is definitely top quality and worth it, but even then, $260 a month is pretty steep to pay.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Very Thankful

*2023-08-10*

I really appreciate it that my counselor took time to ask me what I wanted to focus on in our sessions. I’ve had previous insurance-provided counselors in the past who wanted to focus on benchmark goals for insurance purposes. However, this did not help me to work on and what I was seeking to heal and learn. with PrideCounseling, because it is out-of-pocket, the counselors have the freedom and the ability to work with each individual on their particular goals. Perhaps not every counselor will be the perfect fit for you, but I encourage you to keep on looking, until you have found someone that is well matched for you. I am forever thankful.

### 5/5 — What a great resource

*2022-12-03, version 12.12*

I’ve had this app for about a month and I think it’s excellent. The app is so easy to use and very convenient. My therapist is perfect for me and I love being able to message him any time as well as have a bunch of groupinars to attend throughout the week, which are constantly ongoing. Very easy to make appointments too. I like the daily journal as well.

### 5/5 — Great experience, easy to find therapist

*2022-11-22, version 12.12*

I have moved around a lot and it’s always been hard for me to find a therapist or doctors of any kind because of this reason. Using this app allowed me to find a therapist as I was going through a major life event and hopping from state to state every week for months without worrying about having to miss sessions or how to figure out insurance or most of the other issues I had with traditional counseling/therapy in the past. Even when I had a therapist in the past that I could talk to remotely, she wasn’t allowed to have sessions with me if I was outside of the state (say visiting for the holidays). That was very inconvenient. I appreciate this app for the ease and flexibility. And I have a wonderful therapist of course! And I know id I didn’t I could easily request a switch which is very relieving. Anyway, based on my experience I’d recommend Pride Counseling.

### 5/5 — First session

*2022-08-13, version 12.10*

I have never done online therapy before, and didn’t know what to expect. Today was my first session, and it went so much better than I had imagined. The session started right on time, and my therapist is so caring, compassionate, accepting, and validating, and I look forward to more sessions because I know that I have a reason for hope.

### 5/5 — Fast, Reliable, Great Resource

*2022-05-02, version 12.3*

This is my first time ever getting counseling and the Pride Counseling app has made it so easy. They set me up with a counselor very fast and I was able to get on her calendar quickly. There’s a wealth of webinars that are included that I’ve really enjoyed so far. There is a cost which isn’t *ideal* but it’s encouraging me to make the most of this experience while I have it, and truly invest in myself.

### 5/5 — Pride Counseling is Better Help

*2022-03-30, version 12.3*

If you didn’t know already Better Help owns Pride Counseling. I’m not sure if there are differences in payment plans but I’ve found one that works for me which I pay the base monthly subscription and then I pay for two additional live sessions (bi weekly therapy) it’s still relatively more affordable than traditional out of network, private practice therapy. My therapist is in the Midwest while I’m on the west coast. I’m grateful for this modality of therapy because I wouldn’t have found her otherwise. I did have about 3 therapists before her through Pride Counseling so it took a couple tries to find the right fit. I recommend this app as a gateway and resource to access a typically inaccessible therapeutic tool.

### 5/5 — I love it!!

*2022-02-24, version 12.3*

I’ve only been doing sessions for 2 weeks and I already see huge changes. My therapist is so sweet and amazing at making me see things in ways I had not seen before and so easy to adjust and work on. I definitely recommend this to anyone in any spectrum of the sexual orientation not just queer. I am definitely benefiting from it and hope others will and do too.

### 5/5 — Great app/ amazing service

*2022-01-03, version 11.7*

I really like this app. I was worried about how easy/hard it would be to use. It is super easy to schedule appointments. The appointments - video at least- are easy. We had some small problem with buffering, but in sure it was on my end. I didn’t have the greatest signal. I also appreciate knowing the therapists are LGBTQ sensitive.

### 5/5 — Helpful, accessible, and effective

*2021-09-26, version 10.0*

I received more than expected after signing up on this app. I pay a more than fair price for everything that is available for me to use when I wish. I can journal in this app, track my progress for certain goals I make with my therapist, message my therapist at any time to which she is very responsive (usually responds within 24 hours), can have a weekly appointment via text, phone, or video, and attend groupinars that are hosted by different therapists and psychologists which are very informative and provide a platform to anonymously discuss the topics with other patients - like an anonymous and supervised group therapy session. Highly recommend to anyone seeking to better their mental health, whether you’re going through a difficult time and reaching for help or just curious with what therapy has to offer - you will find something to benefit from here.

### 5/5 — Right when you needed it, but didn’t think you did.

*2021-09-18, version 10.0*

I am just starting my journey into counseling. This App made it easy to locate and connect with a counselor who understands my needs. The layout is very user friendly and my video session, (1st one complete) was super easy to setup, schedule, and execute so that I could sit back in the comfort of my home and start to unpack. Job well done to the App creators and the Pride Counseling team.
