The heterosexuals complaining about this app discriminating is totally bogus. This is a study of a minority group anyway, but there are straight people who've signed up as it's indicated in the percentage in the app. ### 4/5 — Good start *2015-11-21, version 1.40* It takes a very special person to cry about how an app specifically geared toward crowdsourcing issues and experience of LGBT people is discriminatory against straights. The concept, the layout, public forum, etc. except I downloaded it over a month ago and haven't done/ seen anything new since the very first day I've used it. I've had this app for what's going on three weeks now, and a survey has not appeared. The people who have made the app have posted in the community section ONCE, and the traffic has dramatically died down. They've promised us surveys over a week ago, and none have yet to appear. Of course I'm growing impatient myself, but I'm still holding on to see what's going to happen next... All in all, I am becoming annoyed that nothing has appeared on my dashboard or I haven't been informed as to why it's taking these people so long to roll out interactive surveys and questionnaires. Unless you like to have apps on your phone that take up space and collect dust, then this is definitely the app for you! ### 2/5 — Giddyap, buggy app *2015-07-13, version 1.21* I’m all in for the study but after many hangs, crashes and finally after it informed me that I had completed the “create a screen name” activity (when I had not), I deleted the app. I’m not willing to risk signing into the community forum until I know I have a screen name. There is no way I’m logging in and finding out it’s using my real name. Fix the bugs and I’ll come back in a heartbeat. ### 1/5 — Informed Consent *2015-07-07, version 1.21* There is a bug of some sort with the Informed Consent "quiz". I am a researcher in LGBTQ health & fully understand the risks/benefits and purpose of this study yet I cannot pass the IC portion. I really got my hopes up to participate in something great... Downloaded it, attempted the test SEVEN times even going back to review to make sure I'm answering them properly and it still tells me to try again. Can't sign up. ### 1/5 — Unprofessional Study = Misleading Data *2015-07-06, version 1.21* I really wanted this study to be a positive experience because we really need good data about adult LGBTQ health needs. We really need good data about teen/child LGBTQ health needs too, but this study was specifically about adults. However, I am sad to say that I ended up deleting this app after giving it several chances – I just don't believe anything helpful will come of what is essentially a social message board. Last time I checked, 25% of participants admitted to being under age 18, yet for some reason they were still allowed to participate. The study is only for people ages 18 and up, so this alone should be cause for concern in terms of gathering valid data from a specific demographic. Additionally, a large portion of the topics were not about health at all – they were social topics. And while those are completely valid topics, they are not valid in the context of a study about health. When researchers do not limit the type of data they collect, everything becomes muddied. The end result was more like Reddit and less like a respectable study. I'm sorry to say that I hope the data collected from this doesn't see the light of day because we need accurate information, not the product of a social chat room with no demographic control. ### 3/5 — Lags and crashes *2015-07-05, version 1.21* It worked perfectly when setting up, but when I tried to access and contribute to the forum, it became slow and lagged until it finally crashed. ### 2/5 — Problems w/comprehension *2015-07-04, version 1.21* While I appreciate the added quiz for informed consent, the set up for information about the survey and the quiz was difficult for me to comprehend. I will probably not be the only one w/this issues, since many leading anD cognitive disabilities make it difficult to process and recall information in that format. There is no clear study going on here, just crowdsourcing ideas for researchers. The app freezes, loads glacially, and is dominated by gay white men, as most LGBTQ spaces are. Was the project shelved, abandoned or did not receive any funding to continue? You can't do anything until you create a community account, and the page just won't load (and it looks like I'm not alone). To use this you have to chose yes to 4 questions and if you say that you are not gay they won't let you in. How long would a 1man1women app last with the gay community protesting it? The problem with this app is that it is NOT easy to use. It runs very slowly and stalls much too easily. Ex: I have been trying to "create a community name" but have been competition unable to because it stalls after I hit "get started". I'm disappointed. It keeps saying that I’ve answered one or more questions incorrectly. That’s ridiculous. ### 1/5 — Just a bit buggy at the moment... *2015-07-15, version 1.21* Okay, I'm taking another star off now; decided to try to delete the app to see if re-installing would somehow possibly help with the community loading issue and instead it won't recognise my email. I'm seriously not going to try signing up again; the process was a total mess the first time and wouldn't that just throw the numbers off? Seriously, a great idea, but done extremely poorly. Fix the problems and then possibly it might start feeling like an actual worthwhile experience to take part in. (Especially since right now probably only very few actually can) This app is probably extremely late in coming, but it's also a bit buggy... The biggest problem is it seems to completely lock up when using the community section, which considering that's a major portion of the app (pretty much all it has, really) I can't understand why it would let slide. Then again, it could be locking up on me for any number of reasons (too many posts or people, the connection I'm using, or even my device which is possible since I'm using it on an iPod rather than an iPhone) The scrolling (when the community section manages to work) is also kind of wonky, but I've noticed that happens with a lot of touch apps. Another thing is with the comprehension quiz; I knew I was getting the questions right but it wouldn't let me through so maybe just a little more clarification that all sections have to be read rather than a blanket "You got the answers wrong; try again" response (I wouldn't really call it comprehension anyway since at least some of them seemed rather common sense) (Removing this part because apparently people don't care how science actually works or to try to help, you know, EVERYBODY ELSE to actually see what is an issue and what's just a human problem. BTW, I'm an asexual and perfectly liable to join the study, but won't [or at least won't try to again] due to the issues listed [and this BS against straight people just because the app is "an LGBT+ study only"; they can still sign up and and lie through the beginning] It's nice to see the LGBT crowd is as "accepting" as they make themselves out to be...) ### 1/5 — Seems pointless *2015-07-14, version 1.21* If there is any scientific value to this "study," it's not at all clear. I'm really sad and disappointed by this, because I'm very interested in helping my LGBT community and UCSF is a world class university. I have more than basic reading comprehension. I know what the answers *should* be. Apparently I'm not the only one who is having issues with their endless loop failure quiz. What a shame. They are wanting to see what we want answers to, in order to conduct further research. It doesn't have to be health related, but about any aspect that relates to people in the community. It is a psychological/sociological research study, and so that is why they have opened the door to collect demographic research as well as to see what issues are impacting our community the most! A brilliant idea to use an app to collect data rather than just a survey.
