Episode episodes can take long time to load, or mysteriously there is no sound e.g. in the car automatically muted? ### 3/5 — Ads Galore!!! *2026-02-12, version 16.0.9* Very frustrating to follow the conversation or the clues for the pop quiz during the breakfast show, ads come on unexpectedly and the one after the other. 25 minutes into the show and mostly only ads. For example, the LekkeSlaap ad played 3 times from 06:00 - 06:23!! ### 2/5 — App constantly fails *2025-07-17, version 16.0.6* I listen to Cape Talk from UK and in Cape Town when home. I always seem to have to open it, close it, remove it and constantly “deal” with it. It seems to “collapse” randomly. using i phone 13pro and i phone16 pro. Same issue with both! ### 1/5 — Waggles *2025-06-26, version 16.0.5* I stopped using this app since they decided to play random ads while using on top of the fact that the station plays ads. While listening, a random ad will start playing, followed by 2 more ads. Very irritating when listening to the dj discuss some you’re very much interested in listening. Use another ap rather ### 2/5 — App crashes/closes iPhone 15 *2024-11-30, version 16.0.4* I tapped on “app support” - doesn’t work. This app shows great promise of only the bugs can be ironed out. I listen to previous episodes often and this app does not stay open especially when my phone sleeps after a short while. What’s frustrating is that it doesn’t continue where it stopped - I have to scroll to whichever spot I last listened to. Terribly frustrating- please fix this !!!! ### 1/5 — Adverts are king *2024-11-26, version 16.0.4* Not sure what happened with the app a few months ago but it has really gone down hill. When it was first launched it wasn’t the best compared to the old CapeTalk app, but in the last few months it has really become worst. This morning while driving into work I heard the Absa ad many many times and I could hardly hear Lester as the sound for the presenter was almost off and the sound for the adverts was super high. I really do miss the old CapeTalk app as I never had these problems with sound before and at least the old app never played adverts over the traffic report or over other ad’s. It really is annoying when an advert starts and then another ad plays over it only to hear the last few second of the pervious ad when the over layer ad finishes. I would really love to have the old CapeTalk app back as that never had any issues or at the least, if they can just fix the sound and the stupid over played ad’s ### 1/5 — Terrible app, it’s rather an advertising vehicle *2024-09-19, version 15.0* This app is annoying. Broadcasts regularly gets interrupted with advertisements spliced in between. It is super annoying and the inter-splicing is so amateur. Rather tune into the radio or broadcasting on Dstv. The broadcaster cuts into live broadcasting to milk advertising revenue - that it so unethical. Streaming is not really regulated in this country so I do not know how or where to report this unethical behaviour. ### 1/5 — The update *2024-09-11, version 16.0.2* The update is awful! I keep needing to reinstall it to get it to work ### 1/5 — Terrible app *2024-09-10, version 16.0.2* I much prefer the old app for listening to 702 and Cape Talk because I could listen on the old one. This new app has been full of issues from Day 1! I’ve uninstalled, reinstalled, turned phone off and on, done everything but it just ‘hangs’. I’d like to give it zero stars. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work *2024-09-02, version 16.0.2* That old app worked fine. Now, if I am lucky I get to connect once every few days as it never connects. When I do manage to connect, there are constant adds at random times. No planning, just awful. And believe it’s not the network but this app. It’s poor and not very intuitive for past shows and interviews. Try again Primedia! ### 1/5 — App Not Working on iPhone 8 Plus *2024-08-29, version 16.0.2* I’m not sure what’s the problem, but each time I open the app it says ‘something went wrong’ - even if I try switching stations. I have uninstalled and installed the app many times and still I get the same error. I have went as far as uninstalling the app, then switching my phone off and on, then downloading app again….still the same error. This has been the case for over a month now. What could be the issue? ### 1/5 — Terrible *2024-08-23, version 16.0.2* The new Primedia+ app is really BAD quality. It takes such a long time just for streaming to start, then there are these ads playing over the live broadcast, then the stream is interrupted suddenly, it’s just all round bad quality offering. And more importantly I can’t always access the podcasts I listen to John after his show and it’s very frustrating not being able to do so. Also why don’t the podcasts just keep running like they use to. Now you have to press play for each one. ### 1/5 — Pathetic app *2024-02-26, version 16.0.1* This is really a pathetic app. It is totally unreliable… one really does not know if you will be connected to the radio station that you wanted to access or not. And if it does happen there are so many ads before the actual programming commences that you miss the bit that you wanted to listen to, like the news. If there was a minus star rating iI would definitely rate it minus 5 stars. ### 1/5 — Very slow to update *2024-02-23, version 16.0.1* Primedia have done their brand no favours with what feels like the very rushed launch of this badly run app. Usually listen to podcasts of CapeTalk shows I missed - in this app they are incredibly slow to update any content. More than 24 hrs?! Design isn’t bad but content and support 👎 ### 2/5 — Too many clicks to get to podcasts *2024-02-14, version 16.0.1* The old app worked beautiful, the podcasts were easy to find and worked even if the phone was locked. This new app is too clumsy first of all getting podcasts for a show has too many clicks and the when you do play the podcast you can’t lock your phone and play it simply stops until you open the phone again. Why break a working app to replace it with something that is not production ready and is too clunky. ### 1/5 — Only stream while app is open?? *2024-02-08, version 16.0.1* Apart from the vanity over function design, the app stops streaming when not open on your phone screen. Basically unusable for a mobile device. The ask the developer page is ‘not found’. Very shoddy app. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Annoying Ad *2026-08-24, version 16.1.4* Whenever I want to listen to something it keeps playing the same ad for installing this app. The app I am already using. ### 1/5 — Relentless interrupting AI adverts *2026-08-21, version 16.1.4* The same four AI-scripted ads cycling endlessly, often cutting over live conversations and presenters, is an awful listener experience. Makes me wonder if anyone on the app team or management actually listen on streaming, because it’s a bizarre, desperate strategy. ### 1/5 — Do the basics well *2026-08-14, version 16.1.4* Poor UI and poor execution to enable listening to a talk-show. A sad experience ### 1/5 — No improvements *2026-08-13, version 16.1.4* A response months later to my previous unfavourable review that says you’ve released a new update with improvements, when the same issues persist, is a little embarrassing. All you’ve done is try to force users into signing up, and added some CarPlay functionality. But all the old issues are still there. Do you actually read and act on user feedback? The app performs very poorly. Despite years of complaints, the only real change has been more ads just to log in, suggesting revenue from advertising is prioritized over fixing the app. ### 1/5 — Awful App *2026-06-01, version 16.1.1* I would really expect better from a media company. Constantly cuts out although shows it is playing. Sometimes it comes back but often not and have to close and reopen and go through the ads again only for it to happen again. Lost me as a listener as I have come back several times but problem persists. What I don’t get is why are they not synced to the show.
