While the extension still technically works, the dev hasn’t updated the app in ~2 years which means the Nitter instances it points to no longer function and users can’t manually enter alternate Nitter instances. I considered submitting a PR to update the Nitter instances list but the devs haven’t even accepted a simple PR that would update their extension to work for x.com links. ### 2/5 — Redirects only work intermittently *2024-04-16* I have my own setting for the Reddit re-direct and it only works some of the time. Other times it just stays on reddits website instead of performing the re-direct. Hopefully it can be updated? ### 3/5 — Pretty much useless unless you can define your own instances *2024-01-05* Does it’s job, however there is no consideration for outages of certain instances. I’d like to be able to set the links to my self hosted instances. ### 3/5 — A little clunky on ios17 *2023-10-18* Took a while to get it to work on iOS 17. Initial setup didn’t work, a day later it does. Also, you have to enable access to all sites by hand, which are hundreds if you want all. It doesn't support redirecting youtube embeds or previews from apps (like when you tap a link in e.g. a Lemmy app). In Safari, it works as expected now. ### 3/5 — Opens the original site before redirecting *2023-09-23* Works mostly as advertised but I can often see the original website (e.g. YouTube) rendered before being redirected to the corresponding alternative (e.g. Invidious). (But could be perfect) *2022-12-01* I love browser Addons like privacy redirect and libredirect on desktop browsers and don’t mind paying for it on iOS to support a developer extending a fork to iOS. I would ask, however, for custom instance domain support to be added. For example, in libredirect (and even privacy redirect I believe) on Firefox I can add any instance or domain I want, including redirect.invidious.io for invidious or simply another redirect service to get online instances automatically. Why this feature is great (and needed with FOSS apps like this imo) is because public instances often go offline or are abandoned by their owners, because the FOSS side of the internet is constantly changing. So please add this feature and make this the best privacy addon on the iOS App Store! Again, thanks for bringing this to iOS. And thanks for taking the time to read this review. ### 4/5 — Permission’s bug? *2022-11-26* The redirect works great, but there doesn’t seem to be an option to allow all websites in Safari extension settings. I have to go through manually and enable each site. It doesn’t actually seem to prevent redirects, though, so it isn’t a big deal. ### 4/5 — Almost really awesome *2022-04-19* I've been looking for an app like this for a while, and this one is *almost* really awesome. My issue is that it briefly navigates to the non-private site before redirecting to the more-private alternative. An example is going to google.com. If I search for something on google.com, the browser will in fact navigate to google.com for 0.25 seconds before redirecting to duckduckgo.com. Since one of the ideas behind these private alternatives is to remain unknown to non-private sites, this app fails on that count. google.com's servers do record a web request from my mobile browser, from my IP address, and with my search terms. I'd chock this up to a technical limitation, but the "Neeva" app intercepts search requests and redirects them to its own site, without first navigating to the default search engine. So it seems like this is a fix-able issue that the app developer could work on. ### 2/5 — Not worth it. *2022-02-04* I paid the two dollars. It only works less than half the time you go to a page… not all that impressed. Why can’t it redirect every time I go to one of the websites?? Could you add Medium redirect in IOS? There is for Mac, but not for the phone. And/or the option to add redirections by ourselves. Thank you! Then the horror realisation that the list contains what looks like 500 websites and all have to be clicked individually without any option for a group selection. It is Tuesday night, I would have to keep Clicking til Thursday lunchtime.. Even more interesting, the idea has been copied from someone else - although this developer has credited the original inventor on GitHub! The extension inside Safari has probably a few hundreds lines which you must approve (ALLOW) one by one! However, I lots of the instances are outdated and I can’t figure out how to add custom ones. In the app’s instance settings, there are only options to change from the provided preconfigured instances. Neither can I find anywhere to add custom instances in Settings>Apps>Safari>Extensions>PrivacyRedirect. ### 5/5 — Great Extension *2023-10-24* Works great. Simple and easy to use. Just turn on permissions for the sites you want to replace and presto. It has good support of most social media websites and lets you use custom instances, but lacks instagram support (with bibliogram) and tiktok (with proxytok).
