Its answers are worse than just guessing yourself or asking a friend. It just totally ignores my prompt and gives a vague answer for 5% of what i typed. It is a very barebones app, no conversation memory (you have to delete your conversation to have another one), and the downloading models stopped working. They would download to 38% and then hang up and the app would freeze if I clicked resume download or anything. Overall there are many better free apps that do the same thing as this app but better In every way. The best thing this app has going for it is that it has obliterated models of local llms, but again that’s assuming you can even download them. ### 1/5 — Frustrating, so many caveats, verbose *2026-05-01, version 1.9.12* Terrible frustrating experience. Very limited information, super basic, did not understand my questions, filled responses with cya legal language over and over instead of being efficient. I gave it feedback on how to respond but kept getting the same canned responses. I’m confused how a general AI assistant could work so poorly. The models don’t work correctly and most of the time cannot keep up a coherent conversation for more the 2 prompts. My guy just devolved into slop. Not even English. Waste of my money in super angry ### 1/5 — Neglected app, developers lie *2026-04-27, version 1.9.12* The developers seem to spend more time responding to negative reviews than they do actually working on the app. It’s been more than a year since they promised more than 1 conversation (very difficult!), conversation history (so complicated!), longer conversations (“just start a new conversation”), etc. The development team also seems really bitter, with the app description saying their app is better because, to paraphrase, “the other guys are a bunch of idiots, but not us, we’re super duper smart!”, and even going out of their way to insult negative reviews (“do you even know what a large language model is, you f—ing noob? Followed the instructions to start generating images. The first issue right away is it’s asking $4.99 just to use it. No mentioning this on the description whatsoever. I bought it to try the image generator. Loaded some models, no button to generate images. Dangerous, but dope. *2026-06-09, version 1.9.12* The genie has been out the bottle since GPT 1 & 2 were open source and it’s never going back in. This app has been very useful for times when I have no reception like when I went to Red Rock in Nevada with my wife’s family, hypothesized that the rocks were likely red due to the fact that iron rusts that color and the rock is most likely iron rich. I had zero reception but because this runs locally, I was able to confirm that was the reason and share that fun fact with everyone. It’s like having all human knowledge in your phone. That said, Dolphin specifically is totally dangerous with the right pre-prompt in the wrong hands. The only thing I’d like to see is to be able to paste in links to other ollama models, you can include the same disclaimer about memory limits and just add a “+ Custom Model” option under manage models, it would prevent you from having to update the app monthly to incorporate new models.
