Add a quick shape tool and I would bump my review up to five stars. ### 4/5 — Shape tool/ruler when?? *2026-08-01* Procreate Dreams is genuinely amazing and is significantly better for animation than Procreate(since this app is made for animation and all). But the only downside that I have with the app is that it has no shape tool/ruler tool or liquify, which are two very important tools when it comes to making slight adjustments to your animation and making straight lines for your background, middle ground, or foreground. I would also love to be able to see how long I’ve spent on a project so I can have a moment to acknowledge that I spent “9000+” hours on a nonfinished project. As a traveling designer who sometimes animates for work, it is tough to carry a Cintiq for TVPaint. The UI is easy to understand, and the brushes are naturally great, as a Procreate user. The only drawback for me, using a relatively old iPad, is the glitching. On animations longer than 7-10 seconds, the app stops registering the Apple Pencil every few frames, though this may be due to my older device. Also I rely heavily on keyboard shortcuts, and the lack of a way to bookmark and quickly jump around the timeline makes working on longer animations quite tedious. Overall, it is a great tool with room to grow! ### 3/5 — Different camera movements *2026-07-25, version 2.0.4* I just started using procreate dreams, and I find the camera movements very limited. I wish there was a way to control the camera not just the paintings themselves. I will say a ruler would help this app a LOT! It can be annoying to be looking for a tool like that and it not be there when other animation apps have it and you can download them for free. Solid app if you’re looking to make high quality animation software. ### 4/5 — It’s good . *2026-07-24, version 2.0.4* I love how procreate has an animation extension, but sadly it crashes often for me an its quite limited when it comes to the normal procreate tools . ### 2/5 — Laggy and missing features *2026-07-23, version 2.0.4* Feels quite laggy on my iPad — not unusable, but noticeable. Procreate on the other hand, runs super smoothly and I’ve never had issues with it. I’m running on an iPad Air 4th Gen, for what it’s worth. I hope they can improve the speed overtime! Update: After some more use, I think I’m going to switch away from Dreams. Outside of feeling laggy, it also feels like it is missing some very basic features, and I keep encountering various bugs such as freezing, crashing, or glitch artifacts (which I reported on Folio). It does not feel like a very polished or thought-through app right now. I really wanted to like it. I hope they can improve it to a point where I’ll want to switch back though! I still love the ability to import brushes and things from Procreate, and the similar drawing feel. ### 4/5 — !Read before you download! *2026-07-22, version 2.0.4* Dreams is definitely a great app that’s easy to figure out and use, but I’d highly recommend making sure you have at least 15 gigabytes of storage before downloading, otherwise it will lag. Checking memory beforehand will save you lots of frustration and pain, overall making the app more enjoyable. :) ### 4/5 — Difficult to start, but gets easier *2026-07-21, version 2.0.4* So many basic features like adjusting FPS, moving frames around, and copy/paste are difficult at first because it feels like the apps hides these things from you. Once you look up a few tutorials things get easier, but you really have to do the research yourself. There isn’t really any tutorials which is kinda hard when there are so many buttons. I started an animation and ran out of frames so fast my 20 second audio had to be cut shorter. Amazing animation app, horrible controls and UI. ### 1/5 — Procreate Nightmares *2026-07-26, version 2.0.4* iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (4th generation) iOS 17 (I’m not upgrading since it’ll cook my iPad) I love procreate but dreams is not as good. It over heats my ipad if I use it for more than 2-3hrs. There’s a ton of bugs with the touch features. Undo, pinch to zoom, brush skipping if my palm hits the screen right. I just wish they flushed out the flip book feature in the original procreate instead of making a completely new app with features no one really uses. Also you can’t merge tracks in flip book but can only see 3 of them at a time. It gets hard to navigate for clean up. ### 1/5 — Great app but…. *2026-07-23, version 2.0.4* Most animation works fine, except whenever I open the flipbook and exit the play gets stuck in a loop, playing the same half a second of animation over and over again. The only way to fix this problem was to exit the app entirely… Another issue, I was attempting to combine 2 frames, and this was completely impossible. I enjoy being able to adjust the fps along with using some of the recommended ones. The variety of brushes makes it so nice! I know a shapes tool is in the works so I’m excited for the release of that! One very small issue though. I really like the brush cursor setting on the original procreate. It isn’t that big of a difference for my drawings, but it’s something I’m used to using and find helpful for nearly no reason. But in procreate dreams the brush cursor setting doesn’t work at all. I don’t see or notice the little circle the represents the brush. Ignoring that, I think this is such a great app to practice or make animations on! Although it is lacking some features like 3D animation, and although it has anti-aliasing, it is very complicated and hard to turn on and use. And also another problem that I have is that if you scale move or make an object that has anti aliasing on, it turns of and is more pixelated again. It is also kind of laggy sometimes and can crash a lot. Also, things could be a little bit smoother, especially with the brushes, which aren’t that smooth at times.
