Got onto the app (via QR code specific to the machine). Put in card details, paid £10. Only then did it tell me all the chargers are offline ### 1/5 — Appalling *2025-10-04* I have 2 Project EV chargers at my holiday let which are linked to this app so guests can charge their cars. Not a single guest has been able to charge their car through the app since I set up my contract 2 months ago. The app takes their money to put onto account but then doesn’t successfully link their car to the charger. Unhappy guests is not good for my business and unexpected additional fees appearing on my monthly bill from them makes this look more like a scam than a professional outfit. Also customer services don’t operate after 6 pm or weekends which is when most customers will be having issues! ### 1/5 — Ridiculous this needs an app *2025-08-22* Tried to charge at a hotel with minimal signal in the car park. Got onto the app and it’s the least user friendly experience. You have to create an account for some bizarre reason. Then you have to top up with £20 credit to charge your car but when you go to top up it doesn’t give you the option to top up with £20, just £10 or £30 so you have to top up twice with £10 🙃. I don’t want to spend money in order to charge with chargers I may never use again. Honestly, just make your chargers pay by card for what you need. You’d make way more cash as myself and many other people parked nearby all said that they honestly couldn’t be bothered to go through the hassle. ### 1/5 — App not working *2025-05-28* I have to used this app as I charge at work and this is what they use, the app starts off well after and hour it disconnects from the vehicle and stops charging or that car is charging but in the app u cannot stop the charge, this becomes a blank page! Very very frustrating. Contacted the team by email no real solution given. Please fix the bug on the app!!!! ### 1/5 — Terrible charging experience *2025-05-14* What a faff. Firstly you have to struggle to load £20 onto your account before charging (£10 at a time, and waving the app to authorise the transaction with your bank seems to often cancel the payment). Then the charger just refuses to start charging my car because there is another car already there (mine!). And finally no customer support. So I am £20 lighter and my battery is still low. ### 1/5 — Bad *2025-04-20* Well done for making your chargers as difficult to use as you could. I can’t use my Porsche charging card to pre-auth I can’t use a debit card to pre auth You have to download the app You have to make an account You have to pre load credit You can’t pre load credit from Apple Pay You can’t pre load credit from cards stored in Google pay I mean, how hard do you want it to be? Wouldn’t be surprised if you had to finish a crossword in the app to enable charging… ### 1/5 — Terrible *2025-04-04, version 2.172.0* Insists on a minimum £30 charge on a 7kW charger - absolute robbery, there’s no way on earth I’m ever going to recoup that, I’d be lucky if I get £2.10 of charge in during the time I’m here. It takes the mick. ### 1/5 — Prepayment model in 2024 is stupid! *2024-11-30* Have to register/give away loads of personal data only to find that the only way to use the charger is to prepay £20. No way to get unused balance back. Useless if you won’t be using one of their chargers regularly. It’s 2024 - Have you heard of card pre-authorisation!!!? Or contactless? or Electoverse? Didn’t use the charger as a result. And went elsewhere. Shame the app/payment model lets it down as hardware itself looked good. ### 1/5 — Avoid - they are not worth your time *2024-10-05, version 2.150.0* Cannot get any of their chargers to work and they make you top up £10 before you even try. No phone line on weekends so now I’m £10 down and out of luck. If you are forced to use one of their chargers like I was, then download electroverse instead. This app allows you to use project EV chargers whilst only paying for what you use. A business model all of these companies should follow. Thank you Octopus Electroverse for allowing me to boycott this app. ### 1/5 — How not to provide ev chargers *2024-08-21* Faffed about downloading the app and giving my inside leg measurement, no credit card on me, not carried one for years, so not able to get any credit. So no charge and wasted time. Come on greedy / lazy companies and developers, think about what you are doing, do a proper user needs analysis and stop making the world inefficient with your selfish goals. ### 1/5 — Shocking. Doesn’t work *2024-06-02, version 2.132.0* Why bother - park somewhere else as it won’t work despite repeated attempts. ### 1/5 — Awful *2024-03-09* Project EV must really hate EVs. Like it’s a project to kill the industry. All they had to do is provide a plug socket and take payment. But they’ve made the whole experience and complicated and useless as possible. Really must have remakes effort to create such a poor customer journey. Bravo. ### 1/5 — Get with the times *2024-02-17* It’s 2024 yet EV charge points are still asking people to download an app, register with loads of personal details and preload credit. Fine if you plan to regularly return to a charger in the same network, but for the occasional user or visitor from out of the area it’s useless. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — No Apple Pay *2026-07-27, version 3.214.0* I am not happy adding cards to random app websites. So I prefer to top up via Apple Pay. This app doesn’t support this feature so I am deleting it ### 1/5 — Garbage *2026-07-26, version 3.214.0* Like many others these chargers wouldn’t connect and start charge. ### 1/5 — Not good *2026-07-04, version 3.193.0* Failed to load, stuck at charging station with no where to charge . Avoid! ### 1/5 — Abysmal *2026-05-27, version 3.186.0* I can’t give less than one star unfortunately, it took me 30 mins to get one working out of a total of 8! Then it disconnected of its own accord after 20 mins of charging. ### 1/5 — Poor experience *2026-05-08* Tried to charge at Doubletree Harrogate. Needed a big charge, and app insisted I preload with cash before charging, so added £30. Then problems began. One charger offline. Other charger supposedly working but despite repeated attempts would not connect with vehicle. On one occasion it finally connected, but no charge went from charger to car and connection eventually cut. So, a deeply frustrating experience, a car still not charged, time wasted, and £30 out of pocket. AVOID. ### 1/5 — Garbage *2026-04-16, version 3.169.0* The charger doesn’t even work when it says it is working. Absolute garbage ### 1/5 — Terrible *2026-03-18, version 3.156.0* This is a terrible charger/app. Getting the thing to charge requires me to change the delay charge setting to zero… why on earth would anyone want to delay charging?!? Avoid buying this awful charger. ### 1/5 — Dysfunctional and seemingly not correctly commissioned *2026-03-16* Whilst attempting to charge and Hotel Indigo in Torquay I came across two other users suffering connection and functionality issues. One of those users was a regular at hotel and advised these chargers rarely work and even less rarely reliably. I witnessed the only seemingly functional dual charger of the three available trip 3 times over 2 days. It seems that the load for two cars on a dual charger trips it out. The other chargers appeared intermittently powered up but their displays indicated they were not connected. None of the QR codes were recognised when scanned in Project EV app. Manual entry of charger IDs only seemed to work on two ports (on same charger). The other 4 charger IDs were not recognised. Appalling experience robbing user of connection fee each time and delivery minimal electricity for that fee. Fee charged isn’t even that competitive for a 7kW connection. Project EV sort yourselves out. I suggest you can drop the Pro reference also🤷🏼‍♂️ ### 1/5 — Review *2026-03-14, version 3.149.0* Simply the worst app ever I’ve used in any context. Appallingly designed and totally user unfriendly. ### 1/5 — Horrendous app & service *2026-02-13, version 3.138.0* Completely nonsensical charging process with useless instructions. Forced to create an account to then pay for this abysmal service. Avoid at all cost. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Great app works great *2024-09-17* Great app worked great as with most chargers, if it is not working it is usually the equipment rather than the app or provider. ### 5/5 — This is actually very, very good *2024-08-15, version 2.136.0* I was a bit put off by the reviews saying you had to buy vouchers but I knew there was a charger near my mother’s that I’d be using more than once so wasn’t worried. However, YOU DO NOT NEED TO BUY VOUCHERS. I just added my payment details, plugged in, scanned the QR code and it started charging. It was really quick, no hassle at all. The app items is really nice, clean UI, I just don’t understand why the developers who have done such a good job didn’t respond to the negative reviews! ### 5/5 — Does what it needs to *2024-03-05* Does the job when I need to use chargers at work and see my records. ### 5/5 — Easy to use *2023-02-21* Good app and easy to use. Project EV is probably one of the better supported EV devices and network providers. I find the charging history page very useful. ### 5/5 — Great app not enough chargers *2022-07-19* Great App worked simply and seamlessly for me. Also the charger I was at had a decent electric/kWh rate - the only problem is I could only use it if I topped my account up with a min of £20. Quick scan of the in app handy map for my normal locations and with no ProjectEV points close to me the £20 would just be sat there and no doubt eventually lost so app deleted and hope they find a way to fill the gaps in the uk! ### 5/5 — User Friendly *2020-08-19* Great App! Easy to use! Pulled up to a public charge point and started charging within two minutes of downloading the app. ### 2/5 — No Apple Pay - Arghhh *2023-06-08* So close this could be the best app for charging and there are so many… why you have to load a wallet is ridiculous and no Apple Pay seens so stupid Also to make matters worse when you go to put in your card details auto fill not available. Had to search for my wallet to get the card number ### 2/5 — Shame as it actually worked fairly well *2023-05-07* Please please please stop this process of having to pre-load £20 of credit onto a account in order to start at charge. I’m at a hotel in the middle of nowhere where I have no choice but to spend £20 for a £10 charge and the other £10 will disappear into the ether. Or I have to load another £10 to start the next charger. No other P-EV chargers around me. Nobody is joining this network as a genuine network but more out of necessity at a specific location. Shame as once the money loaded it was one of the quickest apps to communicate with the charger and start charging. In-charge data was some of the best I’ve seen as well. Just set it up to authorise £20 and take whatever payment at the end!! ### 2/5 — The app Does not load *2023-04-04, version 2.72.0* The app is not loading into my phone I have to open all the time from the App Store. ### 2/5 — Needs to carry a balance *2022-07-24* Good app and easy to navigate, but the need to carry a balance to use the charge points, rather than a pre-authorisation at point of need and then debiting the spend of the charge is really bad form. No obvious way to request a refund of a balance from within the app. Not good enough in this day and age, especially with the limited amount of chargers in the UK.
