We make sure to offer 5-year plans that are suitable for insurance and the lower monthly fee for Proloquo as well as other one-off purchase apps. ### 4/5 — Really good AAC (review from AAC user) *2026-05-23* This app has the best pre-made vocabulary out of any AAC app I’ve tried. I don’t have to spend hours every day stressing over all the words I can’t say or trying to manually add everything in myself. It already has almost every word I need, besides personal words like family names and custom phrases, which saves so much time and energy. I use this app every day and genuinely love it. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because I wish there were more customization settings. I would love the ability to change colors, use different fonts, customize button styles, organize things more deeply, have more layout and personalization options, and maybe even more voice or visual settings. Overall though, this app has helped me so much and is one of the best AAC apps I’ve used. Regarding points 1-3: Proloquo is designed to be a vocabulary where all the words are available from the start, and with a lot of language on each page. It follows research studies and best practices of AAC. The grid size, words on the Home page, button size, button position, and button color are all fixed. It is a fixed foundation that needs to be learned. The framework is a vocabulary of organized words that we call Crescendo Evolution. Proloquo offers a single grid size that is designed to not overwhelm, but is as efficient as larger grid sizes in Proloquo2Go or other AAC apps. It cannot be changed because the framework supports AAC best practices. It is easier for communication partners, and teachers or therapists with multiple users to model. All Proloquo users have the same vocabulary. Additionally, in the folders and in every tab, we left plenty of space for you to add your own buttons and there is also an option to add Related Words™️ to any button in Proloquo, including the Home screen. Point 4: Proloquo has the same English voices available as our other AAC apps and includes over 60 free adult and children’s voices. Point 5: We are adopting a more sustainable model of monthly and yearly subscriptions so we can deliver on our promise to you: Access to 24/7 in-app AAC expert support. Regularly updated lessons and practice chapters in Proloquo Coach to help you master AAC and connect with your child. Updates that improve the words and layout (vocabulary) of the app. Please know if you wish to provide feedback or ask any questions you can contact us anytime at support@assistiveware.com. ### 4/5 — Amazing app with one complaint *2026-02-13* I have used this AAC app for about 4 years and it is by far the best one for me and the only one I have been able to communicate effectively with (I am autistic and nonverbal). I tried many AAC apps/devices for years before this one and this is by far the best. However, one complaint I have that is very important is that in the last update the voice I have been using for the past 4 years (Rachel) has been updated and now sounds nothing like it did before. As someone who cannot speak, that voice was part of my identity and for that to now not be an option any more is upsetting. I would appreciate the option to keep my original voice instead of the voice being changed with no option to keep the original. I believe any “improved” voices should be separate and new and the old voices should still be available for the people that want to keep their voice. Apart from this complaint I genuinely cannot recommend this app enough. Thank you to the developers! **Developer response:** Thank you for sharing your thoughts. While Proloquo is free to download, you cannot access the app without setting up an account. Once you have an account set up, you can access a free one month trial or start a subscription straight away. It is not possible to use the app without an account and either an App Store subscription or a licence. You can email us at support@assistiveware.com if you would like further information. ### 4/5 — A text box imp-limitation *2025-09-15* While I do think this app has potential, I am a blind user, and would find a text box option more useable than tapping words. I think both should be an option. When tapping on Keyboard, it does pop up the keyboard, and that is great, but it's not a text box. This would make writing a sentence or two much easier, then hitting "play" for it to speak. Now I find it an easier way to work with trauma from my past and to express hidden feelings. I like the new app has a much wider breadth of the vocabulary and is more age-appropriate. I am writing in also to express some frustration because I’m having trouble tapping, the last tab on the app. I’m not sure if anyone else has written in to say the same thing it could just be my phone, but I also wrote this to Express my thanks as well! I wish that had been more up front before downloading it to all my kids devices. We even created a new email to be able to utilize this app for our son and it still says the same thing. Please email us at support@assistiveware.com and we will assist you to resolve this issue. ### 1/5 — Added speech impediment with no warning *2026-02-26* They added a speech impediment to the voice my son just spent 6 months getting used to hearing as his own. Literally the exact opposite of helping with communication. Speech therapy usually involves reducing speech impediments, not creating them. Have they got any idea how distressing and confusing it is for a child with autism to be faced with a massive change… like how their voice sounds? And their solution for this problem they just created is to manually alter the pronunciation of thousands and thousands of words. Please contact us at support@assistiveware.com ### 1/5 — Yet Another Subscription Fee For Something That Should Be Free *2026-01-31, version 5.5.3* If you want to say “we are here to help”, that’s one thing, but I’m hard pressed to see how anyone can believe that if you’re constantly mauling their wallet for it. I wouldn’t mind so much it were a one-time purchase, but THIS? Absolutely disgusting. Non-verbal people have enough trouble getting through life surrounded by discrimination and authoritarian hate without so-called “AAC vendors” engaging in the show of ableist greed that is constantly charging them for something that they may as well design and code themselves for free. And you’re not even the first to do this. You’re only the first to get the coveted App Store spotlight which did give me hope that you’d be different. You’re not. You’re exactly the same as every other AAC app on this store: pay to play, except it’s not a game, it’s the voice that is needed for self-expression and communication. If and when I learn to make my own apps, I’ll make my own AAC app, market it for free, and make all functional features available without a single paywall. Its only in-app purchases will be purely cosmetic and the only subscription would be a donation line that does nothing with the actual program (and it will say so). Who knows, maybe some genius got fed up with this too and is trying to do the exact same thing already. Good luck justifying your price tag when that baby drops, you’re going to need it. =) ### 1/5 — Profit off children *2026-01-14, version 5.5.3* Many people don’t have the funds to pay every month. You are profiting off children that have to voice. Shameful ### 1/5 — Inappropriate language *2025-12-28* Our son is 3 and nonverbal, we downloaded this app to use as iPad as an AAC device. At first glance, it’s very user-friendly and our son picked up the layout quickly and was able to use this as a form of communication. The reason I would give it one star and quite frankly no stars if that was an option is because there’s no way to hide inappropriate language like “shut up”, which should not be accessible to a three year-old on top of other words that you cannot remove. When I reached out to support their response was they don’t feel like we should limit words to children, which I agree with but having my three-year-old constantly hit the shut up button during school is not appropriate and there’s no way to remove it so don’t waste your money just spend the money on a different app that lets you have access to editing words to make sure that your children don’t get in trouble because While language is extremely important and I don’t wanna limit, I also don’t want to have my child constantly scolded because an app thinks it’s OK for a three-year-old to use the word shut up. We will not be renewing our monthly subscription and will look for a more accessible app that supports positive language reinforcement. **Developer response:** Thank you for sharing your feedback. There are maybe 300 buttons? Way too overwhelming. Not being able to delete buttons/start with a few and then add more with time has made this unusable for us. You can add more, but you can’t remove any. I hope it helps others, but was useless for us and expensive. I have a 10 yr old nonverbal autistic son. I’ve tried many AACs over the years. I love how straightforward this one is. The colors are great as well. It’s very easy to use. It eliminates the need for me to engage in the guessing game regarding her attempts to communicate. She is an individual with autism who typically communicates verbally but experiences periods of nonverbality due to stress or overwhelm. Consequently, the combination of her autism, ADHD, anxiety, and PTSD using this application has enabled her to communicate when she physically cannot. Given our limited budget, we refrained from investing hundreds of dollars in an application that might have failed to meet her needs. Since adopting this application, she has been able to communicate more effectively during her shutdowns, enabling her to engage in conversations with me or others. This has significantly alleviated the stress on both of us. The customization options provided by this application are particularly well-suited for an individual who is 26 years old, possesses reading, writing, and speaking abilities. I conducted extensive research to identify an application that would be user-friendly and intuitive for her skill levels. While she still encounters challenges, the application has been beneficial. There was an initial learning curve for her, but the search function and the ability to add words and folders for restaurant orders have proven invaluable. This functionality allows her to place orders without any hassle or concern. Thank you! I do wish there was a way to just buy this app instead of paying a subscription like Proloquo2Go. Being able to search words, type in addition to have words, add photos, etc makes a huge difference. The ability to pair this with Apple voice makes an incredible difference as someone that is semi-verbal. I have been able to have conversations with my doctor that have been previously not possible. We are always happy to help! ### 5/5 — Game changer! *2024-01-18* As a Speech Language Pathologist who works with teachers and students daily, I cannot stress what an improvement this app is on anything that was available previously. Proloquo seamlessly blends principles of several different AAC systems into one, regularly updated app. The vocabulary is robust, and covers a broad age range. It is the first AAC I have used that already contains curriculum based vocabulary for school aged children. This allows it to be better utilised by both teachers and students alike. The app assumes competence and never disadvantages a user by purposefully limiting vocabulary range or type. The free licensing for therapists and first month free, as well as subscription based approach to payment mean that this system can be trialled with a user before committing financially. Previously, families were forking out hundreds of dollars in one go, sometimes discovering a year down the track that another AAC system might be more appropriate for their child. The cost is no more than a Netflix or Spotify subscription and the app can be loaded onto a device that a huge portion of the population already own. App development takes time and costs money, but AssistiveWare have taken the time to learn from past users and previous app flaws in order to build a great product, as well as create resources that are freely available to families and communication partners. They regularly engage with communities who use AAC and ask for feedback in order to continuously improve.
