I have to say I am impressed within the first few hours of using it. It’s fast and intuitive compared to other and especially suited to adults. I also love how it supports Apple Personal Voice and predictive text. I was relying on their text-to-speech functionality to make calls. Now I use this app with my Google Voice account and I can make and receive calls like that. Proloquo4Text also works with Messenger so I can easily call my non-signing family and friends there and use this app to talk to them. (I am fluent in American Sign Language.) I get overwhelmed by visual clutter, so that is very helpful. Mixing the iPad onscreen keyboard's word prediction with Proloquo's prediction or using AssistiveWare's Keeble, communication is generally very efficient. But now, the option to use both Personal Voice and Apple TTS voices cements it as my favorite AAC app. While I like the Acapela Heather voice well enough, most of the other voices didn't resonate with me, and generally didn't fit my accent. Now, Proloquo works amazingly with my Personal Voice, and sometimes I'll switch to Zoe Premium if I need extra clarity without boosting the volume--my own voice is a bit soft around the edges--for articulation similar to mine. It is wonderful to have so many choices to find what suits you best; it makes Proloquo4Text well worth the price, especially if you use AAC frequently or full-time. ### 5/5 — Ótimo *2023-09-14* Ótimo app ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — no emotion *2026-04-16, version 5.5* The voices have no emotion in them, and there’s no way to inflict emotion such as sarcasm. The voices sound lifeless and they don’t have any expression in them, there’s no emotion or any way to inflict any either. ### 1/5 — App Review *2026-02-13, version 5.4.1* This app is helpful, but I am disappointed with the voice quality. It sounds very robotic and less human. The voice does not show much emotional expression like happiness, sadness, anger, or excitement. This allows me to write down my thoughts/feelings/whatever it is that I am trying to convey and allowing myself to be heard through AAC. This has become a life savior! My only drawback, and maybe it’s a setting I am missing, is I wish the voice wouldn’t start speaking what I typed after each period at the end of a sentence. Most of the time I am not finished writing out the few sentences I need and that becomes annoying/distracting. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Best speech app I’ve EVER used! *2026-07-18, version 5.6* Believe my when I say have tried EVERY free or some cheap apps and there was always something in them that just sucked a bit, like it wasn’t quite right. This app is PERFECT, and I get to customise it to be all pink, nyeheheheh. So my opinion? Bite the bullet, spend the money, save yourself the hassle. Perfect for users who prefer a text based layout ### 5/5 — Best text based AAC for external keyboard *2026-07-14, version 5.6* I’ve been using proloquo4text for several years. I’ve tried many other text based AAC apps and proloquo4text still easily beats them out. I appreciate how adaptable the colors and text are, and the auto spacing helps me type faster. The predictions are reliable. I appreciate that you can set phrases to be spoken automatically, put in the text box, or both depending on how long you hold on them. There’s zero lag between my external keyboard and the text in the app, which sounds small but you’d be surprised how hard it is to find an app that works so smoothly! If I had any critique it would be that I’d love to be able to rearrange the buttons on the Quick Talk menu the same way I can on the Phrases menu. I tend to sort my Quick Talk phrases based on their use/meaning so it can be a bit frustrating to have to redo the whole menu when I could just sort them. This is still such a small complaint about a great program.
