### 3/5 — Dysfunctional

*2026-08-23, version 4.100*

I can’t remove payment methods from my account on the app. Therefore I can’t add new ones.

### 2/5 — Scan issue

*2026-08-07, version 4.100*

I needed to scan a variety of angles before it finally recognized the barcode.

### 3/5 — Only 1 use

*2026-08-03, version 4.100*

Attempted to use my pronto app to purchase MTS Trolley tickets for myself and my kids. You can only use the app for 1 person, so 1 tap at the station. That was frustrating. Ended up needing to use the kiosk machine to purchase for my kids.

### 3/5 — Critical feature missing

*2026-07-15, version 4.100*

This app would be perfect if it sent push notifications for bus delays and cancellations. Twice now I’ve had to call for car rides because the bus just never shows up and the app doesn’t say anything.

### 2/5 — Barely useable

*2026-07-14, version 4.100*

Most people using the app on a regular basis have worked through the growing pains and figured it out. Most people trying to figure out how to ride public transit in San Diego face the additional hurdle of Pronto.
Pros: can buy day and month passes,
Cons: cannot buy and activate single tickets, does not provide instructions to accurate tickets, cannot use AmEx, can spend more using pay-as-you-go than with passes

### 4/5 — What’s the name again?

*2026-07-11, version 4.100*

It works great. But since it may be 1-6 months between each use, I have no idea what the name of the app is when I want to search for the app name every time I use it.

### 1/5 — Bad development

*2026-07-04, version 4.100*

Excuse the development of this app. They blew it big time.

### 1/5 — Overly complicated

*2026-07-02, version 4.100*

Not clear how to ad funds and use them. The CC form should be streamlined to local users. Auto fill info. There should also be day passes available on this app for breeze since I need to transfer to get anywhere I need to.

### 1/5 — Bad review

*2026-06-26, version 4.100*

Dude, the many times i missed school because of the busses not being accurate to the time, pronto gotta fix this bro

### 2/5 — app freeze

*2026-06-22, version 4.100*

app/ screen completely freezes when i open trip planner, fix it

### 1/5 — Ticket pack

*2026-06-16, version 4.100*

The app deleted the 10 pass pack that was really useful for people that works in north county. Now the train will cost the double

### 4/5 — Nice try

*2026-06-11, version 4.100*

Not very user friendly. I needed to add a payment method. I entered all my credit card information only to get a message that I have exceeded the number of payment methods. I don't see any way to delete any of the other cards.

### 1/5 — Pronto will keep billing

*2026-06-06, version 4.100*

Pronto is a deceptive app that will keep billing you whether you use the system or not.
You’d think a public agency would be more transparent.
And there is no obvious, easy way to get off the app so it keeps billing.
Bad user experience!

### 1/5 — Worst app

*2026-06-04, version 4.100*

If my freshmen in CS wrote this app they would flunk. Credentials randomly expire and you can’t renew because you are sent to a website that apparently is not attached to the app. Total amateur

### 2/5 — Lacks Apple Pay

*2026-05-23, version 4.100*

Completely ridiculous that Apple Pay is not offered - signing up and adding payment method is very onerous

### 2/5 — App Freezes

*2026-05-22, version 4.100*

In order to use the trip planner feature, i have to delete and redownload the app or else it completely freezes and I can’t use any of the features. Super inconvenient. I hope this gets fixed.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Horrible app

*2026-08-23, version 4.100*

You would think an app like this would be simple and intuitive…it’s not

### 1/5 — Struggle bus

*2026-08-19, version 4.100*

I literally have to delete and redownload this app AT LEAST once a month because the trip planner screen freezes and crashes the app

### 1/5 — why does the app kick me off every time?

*2026-08-06, version 4.100*

within the past 5 months, the app has kicked me out my account 3 times now. Once, I had the app open and ready to scan, and as the bus pulled up, it logged me out. Most recently, the app kicked me off my account again, and I attempted to log in 4 times until log in was successful. it’s really annoying to deal with. once, okay whatever. but 3 times over the span of a a couple weeks is crazy. not to mention with the recent schedule changes, for the past week the app showed inaccurate schedules. there’s fixing that needs to be done and taken care of.

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2026-08-03, version 4.100*

Fire every boomer that approved this app. How difficult does it have to be? This is what happens when someone hires their grandson to create an app. It’s literally embarrassing.

### 1/5 — Do better

*2026-07-27, version 4.100*

I feel like a lot of these reviews must be fake. This app is horrible. Incredibly slow and there’s several things about the user experience that can be improved with regards to payment methods. Also the scanner at the trolley stations and buses are horrible. You have to scan at a certain angle under certain lighting conditions. I’d rather have a physical card

### 1/5 — Cant sign in to app

*2026-07-26, version 4.100*

But i can sign into the website…

### 1/5 — Such a dumb way to do it, learning curve for experienced travelers

*2026-07-25, version 4.100*

I had so many issues with this app. Not good for visitors or group groups like families traveling together. It’s only good if you’re a commuter who uses it regularly and never errs in the order on which you d do you wanna sit by the window?

The planning feature in the app is good, but there’s no way to convert a trip into one way round-trip ticket. Only all day tickets are available.

You can’t buy multiple tickets because everyone needs their own digital “card”.

It doesn’t tell you have to tap in to activate your ticket *before* getting on the train. You can’t activate your ticket from the train (even though the app knows where you are when you’re using it).

First trip on the Coaster in decades was soured by the frustrating app.

### 1/5 — The app sucks. The service is worse.

*2026-07-15, version 4.100*

I would suggest that no one should ever download this app and use it. It is unclear that every person must have their own app downloaded when you purchase tickets. When you do contact NCTD they point you to Pronto and then Pronto points you back to them. The customer experience team at NCTD is a complete joke and should probably get rid of their job titles since they don’t care about customers or the experience.

### 1/5 — …

*2026-07-14, version 4.100*

This app is horrible

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2026-07-13, version 4.100*

Says I have an account but won’t send me an email to reset a password I never created since I never even had the app before.

*2026-03-18, version 4.100*
