I get frequent malfunctions where buttons behave differently than they are supposed to or not at all. Obvious features like software color correction are absent. ### 2/5 — Great case, awful app *2025-02-04* Case itself is great, app makes it unusable The case is wonderful and worked well. However, the app is terrible. I can’t even begin to explain how frustrating it is to be in the middle of a great snorkel just to have a “cellular data” or “location services” message pop up, rendering the app useless. You’re stuck with basically a floating brick until you get out of the water to click “ok” on the pop up. I missed out on some great footage. I found the best strategy is setting brightness to the highest setting, disabling auto lock, turning on location services, close out of other apps, turning on airplane mode and pray the pop up about cellular data doesn’t come up while you’re in the water. **Developer response:** Thank you so much for your feedback, and we’re sorry for any inconvenience! And of course, if you run into any issues, feel free to reach out—we’re always happy to help! ### 4/5 — Proshot dive case 2.0 *2025-01-25, version 8.0* The case appears to work good, took it on 4 dives so far one down to 103’. The hardware could be better quality, after 2 dives there was some slight rusting showing, I was able to wipe it off(note the camera was in fresh clean water between dives and rinsed once back from the dives) The app could use more work, the sleep mode sometimes turns on the display causing my iPhone 14 pro to get warm. Second I have had it come out of sleep mode between dives. Not sure how it happened but would be nice if they implement a double button press to take out of sleep mode. I lost 50% battery on the boat ride out due to this, almost didn’t have battery for pictures and video for my dive and my battery was dead before we got back. ### 2/5 — Case is great; app still bad. :-( *2025-01-12* I’ve been using ProShot cases for several years, since they first came out. The case itself is good, and customer service for the cases is top-notch when I’ve needed help. The app, however, is still not good, despite several years of updates. My iPhone 14 overheats when the app is running. Also, even when on dry land, touch screen does not work. (I know touch screen doesn’t work underwater, but it used to work above water, for changing app settings or switching to selfie camera; today, nope.) I do like that it’s now simpler to toggle between video and photo, and I like the long-press to zoom in or out, although it doesn’t seem to be utilizing the different iPhone lenses when it zooms; I think it’s just digitally zooming the 1x lens. (Normally when switching lenses, the image shifts slightly due to the different positions of the lenses; when zooming in with the app, there is zero image shift.) Image quality is great with iPhone 14, especially with the pink filter for snorkeling. Here’s hoping the app gets rebuilt in time for a 2026 trip to the Coral Triangle — if not, I gotta bail and get something different. Which is a shame, because iPhone has such a great camera, and it’s sweet to have your snorkel pics right there in your photos instead of having to transfer from a different device like a GoPro. **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback, and we’re sorry to hear you ran into these issues! For the heating problem, please make sure no other apps are running in the background, and try turning on Airplane Mode with Wi-Fi off. If the phone is actively searching for data or networks, it uses a lot of power continuously, which can cause overheating. Regarding zoom, our app currently zooms in digitally from 1.0x to 3.0x, but once you reach 3.0x our app switches to the iPhone’s Telephoto Lens to utilize Optical Zoom. When you zoom out to Wide Angle, our app switches to the Ultra Wide lens to capture footage. The iPhone must support Ultra Wide Lens and Telephoto Lens for these functionalities to work in our app - this includes all iPhone Pro & Pro Max models starting from the 11 Pro. Lastly, we recommend updating to the latest 8.4 version if you haven’t already, as it includes many improvements. And as always, feel free to reach out anytime—we’re happy to help! ### 2/5 — Very difficult to use *2024-03-14* The case does the job but the app is super frustrating. The sales pitch says it’s simple - one button to rotate through photo/sleep/video and the other button to capture footage/snap the pic. I found that sometimes the buttons don’t work at all so you’re pressing and pressing with no response, sometimes they work - and when they work as advertised it’s great - and sometimes you press it and it zooms the camera at .5 increments instead of just taking the photo or video so you completely miss photo ops again and again. None of the instructions say anything about how to zoom vs just taking the image, or - better yet - opting out of zoom functionality, and it’s not in the settings. I looked for tips on You Tube and no one is addressing this. When you’re trying to capture wildlife images underwater the camera needs to respond instantly and predictably- this doesn’t. Proshot you need to provide a user manual and developers, please fix this app! ### 1/5 — Not worth the money. *2023-10-31* I was very excited about this case for my vacation to USVI. The first time I took it out snorkeling water got to in the case and was not able to take any pictures. The second time i tried it fogged up and could not see to record or take pictures. The third time the battery got so hot that the phone shut off. It is a waste of money and would not recommend this product to anyone. ### 2/5 — Awful *2023-04-29, version 4.2* Case was good and what pictures it did take were good but it did not work on selfie-zoom-wide options although the showed that it was working. Completely disappointed I lost all photos from my dive and snorkeling. ### 3/5 — Extremely high battery usage *2023-04-26, version 4.2* This app makes my iPhone 14 pro get extremely hot even after just a few minutes. Using the sleep function doesn’t seem to do much. Battery drains much faster than using native app for photos or videos. ### 1/5 — Turns phone into a heater *2023-03-13* Tried it at home and within 20 minutes the phone is as hot as I’ve ever felt it. Battery damaging app. Also seems buggy. Can’t seem to get any of the other functions working besides photo, sleep, and video. Can’t adjust zoom, front to back, or anything else. Sleep doesn’t seem to work either, and the phone kept getting hotter. PLEASE HELP!!! ### 1/5 — Not a good start *2023-02-16* Just downloaded the app and started exploring the settings and within a couple of minutes, the back of my phone physically got too hot to hold. Closed the app and it immediately cooled down. Tried again a few minutes later and got the same results. Now, I’m hesitant to use my new underwater case if the app causes my phone to overheat and potentially damages it. ### 2/5 — Crashes *2023-01-28, version 4.0* I have used the app a total of two minutes on an iPhone 13 Pro and I find it slow, cumbersome, and it has crashed twice (in two minutes!). ### 2/5 — Can’t utilize 48mp raw of new iPhone 14 pro *2023-01-10, version 3.1* The app seems to work fine but even if you go into advanced settings and tell it to shoot raw, it doesn’t utilize the 48mp sensor of the new iPhone. You only get 12mp photos out of it. Guess I will have to see if I can figure out a hack to use the underwater case with the apple camera app :( ### 4/5 — Tested down to 20m *2022-12-17* I used this app with the Pro Shot Case on a trip to the Maldives. It works great for snorkelling and shallow scuba but when I took it on a 20m scuba dive the autofocus on my iPhone struggled with the lower light levels. ### 3/5 — Settings screen needs to have volume controls *2022-11-23, version 3.1* Just finished a dive and wasn’t able to get any pics/videos because it got stuck in the settings screen and I wasn’t able to exit because I was 12m underwater and the Touch UI wasn’t available. The settings screen needs to be easy to exit through the use of the volume buttons. This would save a world of frustration when down below. Or making the screen for the ProShotCase for iPhone 12 thick so the water can’t elicit a touch and send me to the wrong screen at inopportune moments. Other than that the case itself works really well and other aspects of navigation through the use of volume buttons is really ingenious. Just need to add volume control for the settings screens. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Do not get this product *2026-04-27* I have had problems with the buttons on the case lining up to my phone, but I mostly fixed that by turning on the video and just leaving it on permanently as I am jumping off the boat. But this morning I had an almost mystical experience with a sea turtle, and saw a shark and was a foot next to a flounder. All the while the app showed that the images were recording. None of them recorded. I'm just going to use the case and record on iPhone video. These are moments I will never get back. ### 1/5 — App Makes Case Worthless *2026-04-17* The case is fine, easy to use, it keeps my phone dry. But there is no way to use the iPhone camera without this terrible, laggy, buggy app. Went diving with it and about half way through the dive the app inexplicably stopped taking photos. Except it didn’t notify me or anything so I don’t have photos that I know I took (the app even blinked with shutter press like it does when it works). I have no idea why it stopped working. Additionally, I have a Pro Max iPhone and shoot in RAW all the time and clean things up in LR. The app saves RAW images as purple. What?? I don’t understand what is even happening. I tried taking it in to LR and PS and messing with WB and color channels but that did nothing. The app makes the case utterly worthless. When we went snorkeling the glare was so bad on the back of the case I couldn’t see my screen. I tried emailing the company about these issues and got no reply. What a waste of money. Maybe if they put some effort into updating the app it might be worth it. Don’t waste your money unless you see a newer app update than Feb 2026. ### 1/5 — Atrocious app *2026-02-16, version 8.4* The quality (even with 4K and 60fps enabled) is horrific. Constant frame drops in videos, terrible resolution, and no HDR support. You’re better off using your own camera app instead, it’s eons and miles ahead of this junk. I’m embarrassed of the video quality after my first test using the app. ### 1/5 — Terrible App *2025-11-26, version 8.4* Love the case, but this app is absolutely horrible. It just stops working underwater and you'll miss a lot of moments because it doesn't work. It's no better topside and buttons do not work even out of the case. It constantly requires deleting and reloading and even then, sometimes it just refuses to respond to the buttons. They really need to do better. Great case rendered useless by this app. Everything freezes when the app goes into photo mode and despite have a selection button, photo mode cannot be deselected. ### 1/5 — Terrible App *2025-11-21, version 8.4* Love the case, but this app is garbage. Update the app please ### 1/5 — App stopped working *2024-07-27* Purchased proshot camera case for my iPhone SE for upcoming dive trip but app stopped working before I got a chance to use it. Worked great when 1st downloaded. Tested several times on land and worked as advertised. 1 week later, it suddenly stopped working. App will not access camera. All camera and photo settings are set according to app’s setup instructions. Phone camera works otherwise. Deleted and redownloaded proshot app several times but camera will not turn on when using the app. Black screen in photo/video/selfie mode. Phone is running iOS ver 17.5.1. Very angry and frustrated. ProShotCase support solved the problem- it was simply a matter of giving the app permission to use the camera roll.
