### 5/5 — Highly recommend

*2025-05-12, version 2.15*

Being able to filter out certain keywords and names has made using Reddit so, so much better. Highly recommend this for everybody.

### 5/5 — Makes Reddit usable

*2025-04-16, version 2.13*

Reddit is a cesspool of bias and groupthink. At the same time, this isn’t the early 2000s anymore where individual forums were more prevalent. The top results for many searches are all be on Reddit now, and I’ll admit there is often genuinely useful information there. The downside is that it seems 90% of active users there are terribly obnoxious. As someone who does not care to make an account for Reddit and wants to spend only as much time as necessary on the site, this app really helps filter out the fluff. One keyword filter list later, and I went from 74 blocks in a month to just shy of 3k in a few seconds of testing it out on a political subreddit. Thank you for this app!

### 5/5 — Thank you!!! This is fantastic!

*2025-02-09, version 2.12*

I was so pleased to find your extension! I’ve just purchased it and already added some filters that seem to be doing wonders. Reddit has been so depressing recently, the percentage of positive posts in recent months have been buried by an avalanche of negative ones so I just stopped browsing it entirely which as a long time Redditor, was also disappointing. SO glad to have found your app.

### 5/5 — Works well!

*2025-01-26, version 2.11*

I really enjoy using Reddit but the non-stop deluge about certain public figures and topics was starting to impact my well-being. Reddit removed the ability to filter posts containing key words. I found this app to fill that gap and it has been doing the trick!

### 5/5 — Sanity saving!

*2025-01-23, version 2.11*

Like lots of people right now, I felt it was best to take a step back from social media for the sake of my own mental health. It seemed impossible to engage with it without seeing a certain few people’s faces and names everywhere I looked. Protego has changed that! It works flawlessly on my phone and my computer, filtering is almost instantaneous and it means I can scroll through what’s happening in the news without it being dominated by those I’m trying to avoid. The next 4 years will certainly be much less anxiety producing than they would have been otherwise. It really is worth its weight in gold for me!

### 5/5 — So much better than the Reddit app

*2024-12-25, version 2.8*

After installing this, I uninstalled the Reddit app on my phone. Save to Dock on my MacBook Pro and turning on the extension works great as well.

Note that Reddit tries to push the app on you, for example chat seems to require the app.

### 5/5 — Love this app!

*2024-12-22, version 2.8*

Came across this app from the developer randomly, paid, and have been using it since. Great job!

### 5/5 — Awesome Feature

*2024-12-09, version 2.4.1*

This feature is such a nice addition to my reddit experience. I highly recommend!!

### 5/5 — Revolutionize Your Reddit Browsing with Protego!

*2024-11-29, version 2.3*

Protego has completely transformed my Reddit experience! Setting up keyword filters was easier than I expected, and changing or removing them is just as simple. With so many bots posting hate and misinformation, especially around politics, my feed used to be overwhelming and unpleasant. Now, I can focus on content that truly interests me, making my time on Reddit much more enjoyable and stress-free.

Protego's intuitive design and seamless integration with safari make it feel like a natural extension of Reddit. For any Reddit enthusiast looking to curate their feed and maintain a positive browsing experience, Protego is an absolute must-have. I highly recommend it for a cleaner, more personalized Reddit feed!!!

### 5/5 — Great way to clean up your Reddit feed

*2024-11-28, version 2.3*

I was getting so tired of seeing political stuff and drama all over my Reddit feed until I found this app. Works like a charm - just add in some keywords and boom, no more annoying posts. Been using it for a couple weeks and tbh it's made browsing Reddit way more pleasant. Plus it stops those annoying "open in app" popups which is a huge W. 10/10 would recommend!

### 2/5 — Reddit page no scrolling

*2026-07-31, version 3.5.3*

Had high hopes for this app as it states working without no login. But that is unfortunately not the case as this app can not remove or disable the Reddit upselling by requesting to use the official app on iOS and locking the page scrolling. In that sense I think what this app claims is false advertising.

### 2/5 — Works half the time

*2025-02-16, version 2.12*

I have installed this on my phone and iMac. When the app is active and I open reddit, half the time it filters out most of my keywords, but not all. The other half of the time, it doesn’t filter anything at all.

### 2/5 — Sort of works sometimes

*2025-01-23*

What a great idea because I can’t look at Reddit otherwise since 1/20/25. Often it will work and not show me any content with my designated words. It will even show that it’s filtering. Then just stops and won’t start working again, keeps showing me words I want to block. Statistics stop getting updated. Not sure what the issue is but I have the latest version. I would gladly pay for this if it always worked.

**Developer response:** Hi! First of all thank you so much for trying out Protego.

I’ve been trying to track down the issue you mentioned, I think it only happens when launching Safari right after installing a Protego update.

For now, if you run into this issue again, please force close Safari and relaunch it.

I’m working on reproducing this so I can create a bugfix as soon as possible.

Thank you so much, hope I can earn those other 3 stars because App Store rating are super important for brand new apps. I’ll keep you updated, feel free to email me at hello@getprotego.app if you have more info on what triggers this bug.

### 2/5 — Good When It Works, Deletes Keywords

*2024-11-30*

When this program works it works extremely well. The problem is when there is an update it deletes all your keywords. Therefore you see things on reddit that you previously blocked. The whole point of using a program like this would be to block things you do not want to see. So I’ve gone back to “Sink It”. Keywords are never deleted with that app and it does a lot more to streamline reddit.

**Developer response:** EDIT: Just wanted to let you know that this issue is now fixed in 2.4.1 as of Sunday. Thanks for the heads up with this bug and sorry for the trouble!

—————

Hey tkukoc, the first few versions of Protego did indeed reset the keywords (sorry!) but as of version 2.3 the keywords should not only persist through app updates but should actually be backed up to your iCloud account and synchronized across any device on which you have Protego installed.

If this is not the case for you even on version 2.3 or 2.4 then it looks like there may be something odd going on with your system, since I've got a list of tests to make sure this is working before I submit the build to Apple.

Could you help me track this issue down? I'd love to fix it and earn 5 stars from you. As a brand new dev with a brand new app on the App Store every review counts and I'd love to make you happy.

Feel free to email me at hello@getprotego.app and I can work with you directly to address this issue.

Thank you for actually purchasing my app and giving it a shot either way!

### 3/5 — Works and it doesn’t

*2026-01-24, version 2.21*

Definitely works, but scrolling Reddit stops working almost every time, so only get the first page load and nothing else.

### 4/5 — Reddit takes forever to load

*2025-02-26, version 2.12*

Hi there,

I just wanted to let you know that I’m really happy with the application. It works just like I expected and I’m using it all the time.

The only thing that’s bugging me is that the Reddit tab takes forever to load, especially after I filter the posts. Is there anything you can do about that?

### 4/5 — Good When It Works, Keywords Still An Issue

*2024-12-07, version 2.4.1*

When this program works it works extremely well. The previous problem with the application deleting keywords is now fixed. However, it is still skipping certain words. This doesn’t happen all the time but more often the longer you stay on reddit and refresh the page. The “real time” portion does not factor in a couple of words. Usually for some reason it is the words at the beginning and ending of your keywords section. Other than that, its works as intended.

### 5/5 — Not janky and has good blocking options

*2026-08-16, version 3.8*

I’ve been trying to cut back on my time mindlessly browsing, and this app actually has a lot of settings to address this. Works better than my other options / workarounds. Seems to be worth the small fee and I hope the development continues

### 5/5 — Impressive

*2026-08-09, version 3.5.3*

Clean design working well

### 5/5 — Great app for filtering Reddit and very responsive developer

*2026-07-26, version 3.3*

The app does what it does very well and the dev is very responsive and open to feature requests. Strong recommendation.

## Most praised reviews (7 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Makes reading easier

*2026-07-24, version 3.3*

Works well and hides a bunch of clutter. The recent update added a lot of new features like hiding gif-only comments that used to take up a whole page, now neatly collapsed. The keyword filter is great for getting rid of trump everything everywhere. Honestly I wouldn't be able to use reddit without it.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2026-07-24, version 3.3*

Does what it says it’s supposed to do. But Reddit is still unfortunately a cesspool

### 5/5 — This is THE APP TO HAVE

*2026-07-24, version 3.0*

It’s such a useful and helpful app. If you’re the type of person who spends time on Reddit, you need this app.

### 5/5 — Amazingggg!!

*2026-07-24, version 3.0*

Really happy with Protego so far. It works exactly as advertised, is easy to use, and has made my Reddit experience much more enjoyable by filtering out the content I don’t want to see. Definitely worth checking out if you want a cleaner, more personalized feed.q

### 5/5 — Excellent Reddit Filter

*2026-07-23, version 3.0*

Really impressed on how simple this app is to use, it makes filtering unwanted content on Reddit easy and the Safari extension works amazing

### 5/5 — I have never reviewed an app/extension but…

*2026-02-10, version 2.22*

All of a sudden Reddit isn’t complete trash anymore. Less than a dozen words in my filter list and my front page is completely different. As of now absolutely worth the $2.

### 5/5 — Such a useful app!

*2025-09-30, version 2.18*

Protego is such a useful app, yet is so simple to use. It’s an essential on my iPad.

A couple asks/suggestions:

- Is it possible to extend the keyword filtering to include the subreddit name? For example, politic* would filter posts with politic* in the title as well as subreddits with politic* in the name.

- Can the redirect to old Reddit toggle be added to the Quick View dropdown menu in Safari? Sometimes it’s necessary to turn it off just to quickly look at a page, and it would be handy to not have to go over to the app for that.
