## What is Protein Energy?

Protein Energy — the protein density of any packaged food, in one number.

Scan a barcode and get the P:E ratio =  protein / (carbohydrates + fat). 
It shows how much of a food is protein rather than energy-dense macros, something a calorie count alone doesn't tell you.

Mozzarella scores 0.94. Pesto scores 0.08. Same shelf, very different foods.

Every scan gives you
• The P:E ratio, calculated per 100 g
• Energy, fat, carbohydrates and protein
• Ingredients, product photo, and Nutri-Score and NOVA group where available

A history that stays useful
• Every scan is saved, searchable by name or barcode
• Sort by name, P:E or kcal to compare what you've scanned
• Step between products with the next and previous arrows
• Anything scanned before opens instantly, even with no signal

No account, no tracking
Your history never leaves the phone. There's no sign-up, no analytics, and nothing is uploaded. The camera is used only to read barcodes.

About the data
Product information comes from Open Food Facts, a free and open database maintained by volunteers under the ODbL licence. Coverage of
common European groceries is good but not complete, some products aren't listed, and some lack the figures needed to calculate a ratio.
Pull down on any result to re-fetch the latest data.

Introducing Recipes — a new way to combine products from your scan history and see their nutrition together.

BUILD RECIPES FROM YOUR HISTORY

Create a recipe and add products by swiping rows in the History-style picker. Each product starts at 100 g and can be adjusted in 50 g steps or removed whenever you want.

Every recipe receives a friendly generated name in the format Name-YYYYMMDD, which remains fully editable.

SEE COMBINED TOTALS

Recipe details now show total weight, total protein, combined P:E ratio, total calories, and calories per 100 g.

Tap a product to see its image, name, amount, P:E value, calories, EAN, and scannable barcode without leaving the recipe.

SHARE RECIPES WITH A QR CODE

Each complete recipe can generate its own QR code. Use the share button beside it to send a clearly titled QR-code image through Messages or another app from the standard iOS share sheet.

Scan it with Protein Energy on another iPhone to import the recipe. Its EAN products are also added to History with their nutrition values.

IMPORT QR IMAGES FROM PHOTOS

Received a recipe image through Messages? Save it to Photos, tap the photo-plus button, and select it. Protein Energy reads the QR code on-device and safely rejects unrelated or damaged images.

MORE USEFUL PRODUCT DETAILS

Product details now include the EAN and a barcode below the P:E section, allowing another phone to scan the product from your screen.

SCANNING IMPROVEMENTS

Protein Energy now handles unsupported cameras, unavailable scanners, denied or restricted camera access, and scanner startup failures more gracefully. Manual barcode entry and recipe photo import remain available when camera scanning cannot be used.

Your scan history and recipes continue to be stored locally on your device. Protein Energy contains no advertising, analytics, accounts, subscriptions, or tracking.
