Un nom plus court qui ne serait pas tronqué serait évidemment mieux. - il est impossible de personnaliser les images illustrants les comptes. Exemple : un compte nommé « Amazon » aura bien le logo de l’entreprise mais un compte nommé « Amazon Julien » et un 2ème « Amazon Aurélie » auront droit à l’initiale du titre seulement. - pas mal de sites ne sont pas reconnus et n’ont donc pas droit à leur logo (Adobe, Airtm, ChatGPT, DeepL, etc…). Pourquoi ne pas laisser l’utilisateur importer ses propres images ? ### 3/5 — Ganz OK, aber … *2026-08-13* Ansich eine Super App, aber ein Feature fehlt, dass ich nicht nachvollziehen kann. Ich nutze einen Passwortmanager. Dieser wird mit Biometrie entsperrt. Um die sicherheit zu erhöhen habe ich für einige Dienste 2FA, ebenfalls als Handy-App. Diesen möchte ich natürlich auf eine andere weise entsperren als meinen Passwortmanager. Bei Proton geht aber nur Biometrie oder eben nichts. Keine PIN kein Passwort. Dass kann doch nicht das Problem sein eine Passwortabfrage zu Implementieren. Ohne, ist diese App nur für Leute ohne Passwortmanager auf dem Handy oder Leite die den Passwortmanager mit was anderem entsperren als Biometrie. Schade eigentlich, sobald eine Umfangreichere App-Sperre integriert wird wechsle ich direkt! **Developer response:** Thank you for the feedback. You can follow our blog and socials for any news and updates. ### 3/5 — I was too optimistic *2026-08-09* I wish that the Proton Authenticator let you independently set a pin to the app separate to the passcode for your device if you are not using biometrics like you can with the desktop version. I don’t want to use biometrics on my devices. Ever! Nowhere was this behaviour discussed before I started using the app. I did not expect for it to be a case of use biometrics or be locked to your passcode. Disappointing. I do not appreciate the security risk Proton Authenticator has put me under. Passcodes can be overseen or otherwise stolen when used frequently from the plethora of security cameras and the ethics of those behind those cameras. Add the ability to create a custom pin/password so that my codes are more secure, please. The other missing customisation that I find with Proton Authenticator is that there is no way to customise the icons for the tokens/accounts. Any change to the title changes the icon into a generic letter that doesn’t stand out. If you have multiple accounts from the same company it becomes impossible to tell them apart. If you could add your own icon you could then group the accounts by client or in a way that makes sense. Right now it is very difficult to do that. To the actual authenticator. It does what you would expect. It is nice that you can see the code coming up next so you can start to type that in if there isn’t much time left on the current code. I would feel a lot more comfortable if I knew that accidentally swiping away an authentication code is not possible. Was mich aber stört, ist der Umgang mit dem Anzeigen oder Ausblenden der Keys. Es geht nur "Anzeigen" oder "Verbergen". Sinnvoll wäre die Option "Verbergen", wenn durch Anklicken eines Keys dieser sichtbar werden würde. Due to reliability issues with Apple's iCloud, we've switched to the new backup - works with any drive app including Proton Drive, Dropbox, iCloud and more”. It would appear from my settings it’s no longer backing up to iCloud. The message however suggests iCloud is still an option. A circular message, it would seem. Needs work. **Developer response:** Our team tested the new backup feature for the Proton Authenticator app, and while the initial testing phase passed successfully after the update was deployed, we've since received reports of unexpected behavior. After investigating, we identified that the issue stems from an interaction with the Proton Drive app. Our development team is currently working on a fix. Due to the technical complexity involved, we cannot provide a specific timeline for resolution at this time. Make sure to keep the app up-to-date for any improvements. ### 3/5 — Gut mit Einschränkungen *2026-05-29* Insgesamt funktioniert die App sehr gut, nur leider funktioniert die Synchronisierung über den Account (nicht iCloud!) auf meinen Apple Geräten nicht. Meanwhile, we’ve made sure to document your feedback accordingly. ### 3/5 — Neat Implementation, but redundant *2026-05-03, version 1.4.1* This is a neat tool, but I would much prefer to have an Authenticator tab built into Proton Pass ### 2/5 — Needs work *2026-04-30* I like you can sync between devices with your Proton account but every time you open the app your 2fa accounts have changed position...tried on 2 different iPhones different models and 2 different iPads and those were also 2 different models and the 2fa accounts change position every single time. Ente and 2FAS are my number 1 and 2 with Proton in last place until they get their finger out! I can reproduce this time after time constantly changing positions each time I open the app...on the other Ente and 2FAS never change the position of your accounts. Tried on 2 different models of iPhone and 2 different models of iPad **Developer response:** That doesn't sound right. Could you share more details about the behavior? Reinstalling the app fixes it immediately. ### 3/5 — Removed iCloud sync *2026-04-27, version 1.4.1* This app was amazing, but they removed free iCloud syncing which automatically kept all my codes up to date across all my devices (including Windows with iCloud installed). Sorry, I don’t want to have to trust Proton with all my security codes by creating an account there. (And, yes, Proton Authenticator is open source, but there’s no way to verify the open source code was used to build this app.) ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Broken liability *2026-08-08* The app only works on set up, after this of you need to sign in the codes do not work. Tried multiple times. This app will cause you to be locked out of your account. Like many proton offerings- poor implementation. Also tried the enhanced security- longer codes. However the last release of proton drive removes it from the Files app. There is no way to set your codes to backup on Proton Drive. ### 1/5 — What have you done!!! *2026-04-22* Removed iCloud backup which has always worked for me and replaced it with something that does not work! I switch on Auto Backup and it asks for a password, that’s understandable. However, after you save you password, you are simply thrown into Apples File app in its recent folder with no file there yo save or check. **Developer response:** Due to reliability issues with Apple's iCloud keychain implementation, we've switched to a new backup solution that works with any drive app, including Proton Drive, Dropbox, iCloud Drive and more. If you're having any trouble backing up your codes, please reach out to us using the "Report an issue" option in the app menu so we can help you further. ### 1/5 — Bug with biometric lock *2026-04-22, version 1.4.0* Select "Biometric lock" in the settings. Now when you open the app on a device which requires touch ID (iPad Air M3) you need to touch the sensor on the device in order to open the app. However, if your finger(s) you use for authentication is injured, or you select "Cancel" in the touch ID popup, you will not be able to use the app any more. The touch ID popup will keep coming up and it will never be dismissed. As a result, you can't even swipe the app to the background, which will render you entire device unusable unless you shut it down. Normally if touch ID fails the third time, the system presents entering your device code. But this option is not presented if touch ID fails, so you are cooked. This is stupid. In order to have biometrics enabled on your device, you have to have a code as well. So why lock people out of the app and their device if touch ID fails, and in those cases just present the code entry option. ### 1/5 — Feature Failures *2026-03-28, version 1.3.2* Sweet 5 star design, BUT… Want to regenerate and replace your 2FA TOTP code? Sorry, you can add another but cannot remove, the old one. Want to rename the old one to market it deprecated? That doesn’t work either. How does Apple allow this product on their store? ABOUT does not even work. ### 1/5 — Deception in description *2026-03-17* In the description it clearly states that it can import from Authy, it’s even in the screenshot artwork, but what the artwork cleverly leaves out is the yellow ! Warning next to Authy.. and when clicked on states it does not import from Authy and to contact the Authy developers about it..??? I think I’m good then, I’ll stick to Authy, as being deceived within a few seconds of using the app ain’t a good look. **Developer response:** Unfortunately, Authy doesn't currently support exporting data from their app, but you can import your data manually for the time being. Now it is back to normal. I can easily search the proper account. Very helpful when you have dozens of accounts. ### 5/5 — Best Authenticator App *2026-06-26* This has been the best Authenticator app that I’ve personally used (and I’ve used several). Works very well for everything you can ask for with this kind of app and I love the peace of mind it brings with knowing they’re not harvesting unnecessary personal data. I’m not a fan of the fact that the encryption keys for windows OS desktop app is stored locally…defeats the purpose in my eyes for privacy and security, hoping that’s updated in the future. I also am hopeful for it to fully integrate/sync with proton pass eventually if you choose to opt into that. I’d recommend the use of this app to anyone. ### 5/5 — Plattformübergreifend + sehr zufrieden *2026-06-10* Der Authenticator tut, was er soll. Synct zwischen Linux Distros und macOS ohne Probleme.
