REQUIREMENTS
To receive notifications from your computer, you need the latest:

FEATURES
• Push Notifications—When a Growl notification pops up on your computer, it's sent to Prowl and displayed on your iOS device within seconds.

• Sweet application support—Prowl has support from a bunch of cool applications and services. Check out the full list at http://prowlapp.com/apps.php

• Redirections—Launch a different application when you open a push notification. For example, a notification from your desktop Twitter client can relaunch into your favorite mobile client. You can even pick custom URLs to launch, so you can go anywhere!

• Email to push—Use your Prowl email address (from the Prowl homepage's "API keys" tab) to get email delivery right on your device. Generate as many email addresses as you need!

• An amazing API—Use the Prowl API with a multitude of libraries in various programming languages. You can send notifications from anything that can talk to the internet, and do some fun things along with it.

• Quiet Hours—During the hours you specify, only the badge numbers are updated. No matter the source. Instead of getting a noisy alert, messages are quietly delivered. You can allow emergency-priority items to break quiet hours.

• Do Not Disturb—Keep the application quiet whenever you're busy, or when you need a break from a constant alert. Controllable from within the application.

• Control—Open the edit view to get a quick glance at your notifications, and do away with pesky ones. Quickly copy, email or SMS a notification directly from Prowl (depending on device and iOS version).

• Browse quickly—Use Prowl's internal browser to quickly open links from a notification without having to open Safari.

• History—Up to 10 days of notifications are kept on the server. You can delete notifications that you don't want to see any more, or remove all of your history.

• Customized notifications—Only events you want are sent to Prowl. You can specify all kinds of conditions from the Prowl plugin for Growl.

• Send any message to your device—From the Prowl website, you can send any text to your device: links and phone numbers are automatically linked, so you can easily navigate around without having to worry about typos. From the website or API, you can also automatically redirect to the attached URL.

SETUP
Prowl is built into Growl 2.0. For earlier versions: http://prowlapp.com/installation.php — for Mac.

### 5/5 — Still Solid!

*2026-05-16, version 1.5.3*

10 years(!!!!!!!) since the last update and Prowl is still dependable! My only wishlist item would be customizable icons honestly, none of Prowl’s other UI holdovers from yesteryear bother me at all. Reassuring to know this app will never have “Liquid Glass”. But choice of icons would be a great add!

### 5/5 — Perfect for notifications

*2026-03-16, version 1.5.3*

Love this capability... wrote a Python script to push notifications from Raspberry pi projects to my phone, works great.

### 5/5 — Awesome with a few caveats.

*2026-03-01, version 1.5.3*

This application is absolutely awesome. However, it is need of a serious facelift. Would be nice to have a dark mode and some additional sounds. Praying the developer sees this. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

### 5/5 — Jahrelanger Nutzer

*2025-08-06*

In etlichen Skripten seit zig Jahren verbaut, funktioniert einfach und tut exakt was es soll.

### 5/5 — What can I say?

*2025-02-22, version 1.5.3*

I’ve used Prowl for over a decade and what can I say about it?

It just works! I’ve never identified a failure. How much better could it be? It couldn’t with that kind of track record!

### 5/5 — So handy

*2024-12-31, version 1.5.3*

I’m using Prowl to get notifications from my home automation system while I’m away. Recently I added some sensors at my father’s house so I can be alerted if he hasn’t moved recently, or got up at the usual time. So simple to do (using Node-RED) and Prowl gives me an audible alert and a record of the time when it occurred.

### 5/5 — Very useful

*2024-10-27, version 1.5.3*

Works as advertised, tons of bindings for devs, just an awesomely useful tool!

### 4/5 — Sweet and Sour

*2024-03-22, version 1.5.3*

Remembered Boxcar in course of (once again, 12 years later!) looking through my purchase history for a way for my self-hosted mail server to notify me of new mail, found that I'd have to use another app to do essentially the same thing because Boxcar was long dead (and, seriously, no official solution for push email from a standard self-hosted IMAP server in 2024? Really?). Prowl still works, but it does need an update, if not for the visuals then surely at least for integration of time-sensitive notifications support, so it can actually be used with system focus features that allow for notification bundling and push through. Still, it does work. Will also check Pushover and Pushsafer, but there's no reason not to continue with this. Only, do update the website; all the apps on the integrations page, except for Prowlmail, are defunct! I miss the whimsy and flexibility of Boxcar, but this is fine. It recalls an earlier and pleasanter age of iPhone apps ...

### 3/5 — Meldung

*2024-03-01*

Seit einiger Zeit erfolgt die Meldung der Alarmierung auf dem Handy erst nach 30 Minuten und nicht bereits unmittelbar nach Start des Alarms.

### 5/5 — Works so well

*2023-01-16, version 1.5.3*

Hassle free notifications! I use with OpenHab and I’m very grateful for the developer to continue to provide the service years and years later! Love the Apple Watch support too
