I understand the need to cover the cost of proxies, and $70/yr isn’t too unreasonable for that. But I’m sure plenty of people like myself don’t need the proxies. 

I already pay for a VPN and I’d generally prefer to be anonymized by sharing an IP with thousands of other users on a popular VPN, rather than using a relatively unique proxy endpoint. 

The most useful features of this app for me are the silos to store website data in isolated containers and the ad blockers for popular sites. While the app is technically usable without a subscription if you don’t use a proxy, there’s a large yellow block taking up the top 25% of the screen that says “Subscription Expired.” It makes using the web pretty frustrating. You also cannot create any new containers without an active subscription. 

I like the app and want to support the devs, but paying $10.99/mo or $70/yr is way too much, especially if I’m using it without the proxies at no marginal cost to the developers. I hope they’ll consider a much cheaper tier without proxy access that can still help fund updates and maintenance of ad/tracking filters. I’m quite poor but I value my privacy and I would pay $10 or $20/yr for the basic functionality of silos and ad-blocking.

I do thing tab isolation at this level is good privacy feature, but compared to other free privacy focused browsers I just can justify a subscription. I know stuff like this takes time which requires money but I’m not sure how many people out there are willing to pay for a browser, especially if they are satisfied with the level of privacy already offered by others. Overall I hope to see this grow, but just can see myself paying for it

I thoroughly appreciate this browser. It is well-crafted, and I particularly love the user interface. It is simple and easy to understand and use. It does have a few bugs like it becoming unresponsive when moving to another app and coming back.

Its containerized silos are amazing! Really helps with keeping other browsing sessions separate from each other.

There are a few areas for feedback that I believe would enhance the usability of the browser.

1.) Could you please add an icon or some text that indicates when the settings “PWA” or “Ephemeral” is enabled on a silo in the main page on the squares? This would be beneficial for users to remember settings for each silo.

2.) When a user taps on a link in an application, such as in an email, and it redirects them to the Psylo browser, could you isolate it to a brand new ephemeral silo that is distinct from all other silos? (I am uncertain if this functionality is already implemented, as there is no indication that it is its own containerized session.) Additionally, above the URL, please state that it is ephemeral and that it is a clicked-linked created silo and not one of the user-created silos. It could say something like “Ephemeral Silo: from a clicked linked from an outside app”

I was excited when Mysk announced this app, and even more excited to beta test it, then use it when it emerged into GA. It’s a great augment to other privacy technologies and the care in development is obvious from the start. Very very worth it in my opinion as a technologist.

Good concept but don’t worth it at all

I initially wrote a review giving it 3 stars because, despite the expensive price and annoying yellow block saying your subscription expired, you could still use the basic offline features (which don’t cost the devs any money) with your own proxy or none at all. 

Days later they updated the app and completely blocked all basic features unless you pay $11/mo. There was no mention of this in the changelog. They basically tricked people into updating and took away 100% of the previously free features. 

I’ll be deleting all of my comments on social media recommending this app for privacy, and I’ll mention that the developers are unethical and untrustworthy any time I see the app mentioned.

Update. I understand the argument that each silo appears differently to these sites, but how is that different from brave or even safari that randomizes each appearance?
Ps I also have a hard time with the bandwidth usage, and timestamps in the information we collect section of your privacy policy. Why is any of that necessary in a privacy respecting browser?

As an early adopter who paid full price for Psylo, I can’t help but feel disappointed. Been having connectivity issues that didn’t not resolve after connecting support. I keep getting “Could not connect to server. Please try again later”. It’s difficult to rely on psylo when this is the quality of the “paid” service.

After the forced trial the app displays a huge yellow banner impossible to dismiss. I use my own proxies and I don’t have the need to pay for the subscription. This is extremely aggressive behaviour from the app.

Cool concept, but very odd that a security research team pushes a proxy that makes DNS connections to Hong Kong. 👎

The concept here is great, and the UI very clean as well. Unfortunately the browser fails to load, is laggy and buggy and generally unreliable for many websites. parts of pages, embedded charts (e.g., E*Trade) simply do not load, and lock up the browser. Perhaps after a few more versions the author will get it right.

The Psylo concept is really brilliant. However, several points prevent me from subscribing.

The price of $10 per month remains psychologically a barrier for me and probably for many other users. An entry price of $3-4 would allow wider adoption. Privacy should be a human right and not depend on income. I understand the team needs to make a living but $10 per month is too much for me. The concept deserves to be accessible to as many people as possible.

The ergonomics are average: impossible to easily create a widget to access your silos. You have to manually copy the link then create a shortcut by hand. For a power user it's fine but it lacks practicality for the average person. The UI/UX is also improvable.

It would be great to be able to use Psylo as a regular web browser without a subscription. With its anti-fingerprinting advances, it would already be the best privacy-oriented iOS browser, even without the proxy network.

One question bothers me: when Psylo is set as the default browser, do webviews from third-party apps also use the silo system? This would be important to clarify.

For now, I won't subscribe to the service due to the price, but I'll closely monitor the project's evolution as the team clearly has the skills to revolutionize private browsing on iOS.

### 5/5 — Serious Compatibility Issue After Psylo 1.3.1 Update

Hi Psylo Team,

I’d like to report a serious compatibility issue I’ve experienced since updating from Psylo 1.3.0 to 1.3.1.

With version 1.3.0, I had very good compatibility with certain websites. However, immediately after updating to 1.3.1, I started experiencing significantly more account restrictions on some websites under otherwise similar usage conditions.

I noticed that 1.3.1 introduced several privacy-related changes, including disabling WebTransport and WebAuthn by default, as well as completely disabling DNS Prefetch.

I understand the privacy and IP-leak concerns behind these changes. However, I’m concerned that completely removing certain normal WebKit/Safari behaviors can make a Psylo environment behave noticeably differently from a regular Safari environment.

WebTransport and WebAuthn can at least be re-enabled through the Advanced settings. DNS Prefetch, however, appears to have been completely disabled without an option for the user to restore the previous behavior.

Would it be possible to add a per-Silo option such as:

Disable DNS Prefetch

so users can choose whether DNS Prefetch should be enabled or disabled, just like WebTransport and WebAuthn?

For users who prioritize maximum privacy protection, it could remain disabled by default. But users who need maximum website compatibility could choose to enable it and accept the associated privacy trade-off.

In my case, the difference between 1.3.0 and 1.3.1 has been substantial enough that I would strongly prefer the ability to reproduce the networking behavior of 1.3.0 as closely as possible.

I’m not claiming that DNS Prefetch alone is responsible for the account restrictions I’ve observed. However, because the issue appeared immediately after upgrading from 1.3.0 to 1.3.1, I believe having the ability to individually control these new restrictions would be extremely useful for compatibility testing and troubleshooting.

Additionally, would it be possible for the Psylo team to provide an official way for affected users to temporarily install or downgrade to version 1.3.0?

For example, if possible, you could provide a previous 1.3.0 build through TestFlight or another official installation method. This would allow us to directly compare 1.3.0 and 1.3.1 under the same conditions and determine whether the compatibility issue is specifically related to the changes introduced in 1.3.1.

Even if providing an older build is only temporary and intended for troubleshooting purposes, it would be extremely helpful.

Please consider adding a DNS Prefetch toggle in a future update and, if possible, providing access to the previous 1.3.0 build for compatibility testing.

There is a bud in this build as per customer service.  They are working on it.  I was pleasantly surprised to receive a message back in 9 mins-- the support is amazing so far.  I am a paid subscriber.

Probably the devs didn't setup some kind of "regional pricing" (which could end up being privacy invasive, I must note). Even for such an important app it might be for about every human user, the current price for an iOS-only and not open-source app (at least as of now) makes it out of reach for me, due to the currency/exchange. Should it feature some pricing flexibility, I'd be glad to subscribe (maybe like a "lite" tier, where the user provides the VPN routing OR VPN api key/license, or Regional Pricing, or so many possibilities).

As an early adopter, this is the first time I feel Psylo is complete. I feel the app is smother now and looks amazing with Liquid Glass and solved a major issue I was having with the last update, and even added a couple features I wanted. I can’t recommend this app enough. I’d go as far as Psylo should be on every iPhone.
