## What is PTES Mammals on Roads?

People's Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) puts people and conservation together, running national surveys to monitor wild mammals.

Mammals on Roads collects records of mammals, dead and alive, along road journeys in the UK. Changes in counts of species such as hedgehogs, foxes and badgers, over time, reflect changes in the wider population. Findings have already alerted us to the decline in hedgehog and rabbit numbers, driving conservation efforts and further research.

The app records your route and enables non-drivers to log mammals as they see them.

Audio files give information about some of the species.

Help us to record the mammals on our roads and together we can work to ensure wild Britain isn't lost.

Information about permissions:

- Internet: Needed to submit survey results and error reports (if you have enabled this) and retrieve maps
- Access location: We need to know where you are to conduct the survey!

Please contact us if you have any questions or problems running the app.

### 3/5 — It’s ok

*2023-08-28, version 3*

When I see a animal on the road and they are not on your list then instead of not sure the box should let you type the name of the animal in👍

### 5/5 — Very important app

*2020-08-20, version 2.2*

Really important app to help animals from going extinct

### 2/5 — RealTime only is Useless

*2020-08-18, version 2.2*

i could have given lots of feedback about wildlife sitings but real-time only😱 so i have to keep stopping the car to report!!

let me go in and tell you where i saw the wildlife then it gets 5 stars

about to delete as i can’t use it as it stands very disappointed

### 1/5 — Poor!

*2020-08-18, version 2.2*

Can only do journeys thats so silly, if I see a dead mammal I need to be able to go to the map when I get home and enter the details not to start a journey from a to be each time. Tried this before and it is a brilliant idea that’s not been thought out

### 4/5 — Good

*2019-08-29, version 2.2*

Saw this in the BBC wildlife magazine ... is it solely for roadkill though? Perhaps a feature where you could record any alive mammals would be beneficial too? Apart from that I find it easy to use and a great tool for citizen science :)

### 1/5 — Why no melanistic leopards, lynx or pumas

*2019-07-31, version 2.2*

Pretty gritty does not include non-native cats that we all know exist but of course not officially, that would never do would it defra

### 2/5 — Battery draining!

*2016-10-16, version 1.0.2*

Ok app, but I can't stop it running in the background and so drains the battery! I keep getting a pop up telling me to edit and log off!!!

### 4/5 — Effective

*2013-07-16, version 1.0.2*

Straightforward and easy to use. My only suggestion would be to have mammals such as the fox, badger, hedgehog and rabbit on the top line of the selection page as these are the animals I see the most (sadly). Would also suggest a bigger social networking publicity campaign for next year. Otherwise, good and I hope the data I'm collating is useful.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2013-06-27, version 1.0.2*

This is a fantastic way to record your sightings of mammals on roads.

### 3/5 — Pine martens

*2012-10-28, version 1.0.2*

Actually there are pine martens in the UK. Seen several in the Highlands.
