## What is PulpShelf?

PulpShelf is the catalog for pulp magazine collectors.

Pulp magazines — the adventure, detective, western, horror, and science fiction periodicals of the 1890s–1950s — predate barcodes and standard identifiers. PulpShelf fills that gap with a complete, browsable database of the pulp era and a permanent Universal Periodical Number (UPN) for every single issue.

BROWSE THE COMPLETE CATALOG • 676 pulp titles and more than 42,000 individual issues • Cover images for nearly every issue • Full-text search across titles and issues — including renamed titles, so searching “Ka-Zar” finds the magazine it became • Publisher histories, format changes, and title genealogies • Every issue carries its permanent UPN reference number

TRACK YOUR COLLECTION — FREE, NO ACCOUNT NEEDED • Mark issues as owned straight from the issue grid • Collection stats per title and overall • Works fully offline — your collection is stored on your device • Export your collection anytime

FOR SERIOUS COLLECTORS PulpShelf Premium members additionally get cloud sync across devices, per-copy condition tracking, notes and photos of their own copies, want lists, scarcity ratings, and QR scanning of PulpShelf inventory labels.

Built by a collector, for collectors. The stacks are open.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.3 — 2026-08-11

Share your finds
Every issue page now has a Share button. Send an issue to a friend and it arrives as a real preview card — cover art, title and date — instead of a bare link.

Email preferences
Turn PulpShelf emails on or off any time from the Account screen, not just at signup.

Fixes
• Delete Account now works. It was failing for signed-in accounts.
• Corrected the catalog entry for Western Novelets and the date Western Action changed its name.

### 1.2 — 2026-08-05

OFFLINE MODE, REBUILT
Airplane mode now works the way it always should have. The app reads its on-device catalog first instead of waiting on a dead network to time out, so browsing stays instant on a plane, in a hotel basement, or anywhere the bars run out. Cover images from your collection and want list are cached for offline viewing too.

ONE SCREEN TO IDENTIFY AN ISSUE
Label scanning and cover matching now share a single Identify screen. Point the camera at a PulpShelf inventory label and it goes straight to the issue; press the shutter on a magazine cover and it finds the closest matches in the catalog. Identify is a Premium feature.

SEARCH THAT IGNORES HYPHENS
"Big-Book Western" and "Big Book Western" now turn up the same title, however you type it.

A BIGGER, BETTER-LOOKING CATALOG
680 titles and 42,454 issues, with Hollywood Romances newly added and more than 160 new or upgraded cover scans across dozens of titles.

Plus the usual round of fixes and speed work.

### 1.1 — 2026-07-21

• Cover Match — snap a photo of a pulp cover to identify the matching issue in the catalog (premium).
• Find issues by full date — jump to an issue by typing a complete date, not just an issue number.
• Coverless issues in Newsstand — new toggle to include issues that don't have cover art yet.
• More label sizes — print inventory labels in additional dimensions.
• New titles & covers — added Romantic Movie Stories and Husbands, plus new cover images.
