## What is Pulse?

Pulse is a network toolbox for iPhone and iPad, built for the people who get asked why the network is slow.

It measures a network and tells you what the numbers mean — and opens a terminal on the machine at the other end.

PULSE — CONTINUOUS PATH MONITORING
Re-walks the path to a host every few seconds and keeps a window per hop, so a router losing one packet in twenty becomes visible. It tells a hop dropping your traffic from one merely rate-limiting its own replies; most tools paint both red.

HEALTH CHECK
Eight checks and a plain verdict in about ten seconds — the link, this device's address, the router, the neighbours, DNS, the internet, your public address, any VPN — naming the earliest failure.

SERVICES
Sixteen everyday services — video calls, files, sign-in and mail, remote desktop — checked against their real endpoints in about fifteen seconds, with a plain verdict.

DEVICES
Everything else on this network, named by what each device advertises, with an opt-in port check.

WEB CHECK (PULSE PRO)
Load any page the way a browser does and see where the time went: redirects, DNS, connect, TLS, the server's wait, the download, and everything the page pulled in, by site. A picture shows whether you reached the site or a Wi-Fi login or block page.

ON THE LOCK SCREEN AND HOME SCREEN
A running Pulse is a Live Activity on the Lock Screen, in the Dynamic Island and on your Apple Watch, and it alerts you when the path turns bad. A widget answers "is this network OK right now?", refreshed in the background.

SIRI, SHORTCUTS AND CONTROL CENTER
Ask Siri whether the network is OK, ping your router, check a certificate or your public address — without opening the app. Run any of it from Shortcuts, an automation or the Action button, or tap Check network in Control Center and get the verdict as a notification.

AI DIAGNOSIS
A reading of any run, written for a ticket: what is wrong, where, why, and what to try next. You are asked before anything is sent, and told exactly what goes.

TERMINAL
SSH and telnet, with passwords and keys in the Keychain. Open one straight from a traceroute hop or a device on your network. Every command you ran, per host, searchable, with anything irreversible marked. SFTP in two panes.

AND THE REST
Certificates (and whether the server sent its intermediates), ping with RFC 3550 jitter, traceroute over ICMP, UDP or TCP, path MTU, DNS, WHOIS over RDAP or port 43, interfaces, routes, VPN and proxy state.

EVERY RUN IS KEPT
And judged again, against today's thresholds, each time you open it. Pin any tool to one interface to measure Wi-Fi and cellular separately.

PULSE PRO
Every network test is free, and so are the terminal, the Live Activity, the widget and seven days of history. Pro adds the AI diagnosis, Web check, certificate alerts, each service's endpoints and your organisation's own, device names that stick and what is new on your network, a link test between your own devices, two interfaces or IPv4 and IPv6 side by side, up to six Pulses at once, session comparison, picture and CSV export, full history synced through your own iCloud, sessions that stay open, command history and suggestions, file transfer, and a terminal on any hop or neighbour.

Pulse Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, monthly or yearly. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase and renews unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Manage it in Settings.

PRIVACY
No accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no trackers. Your runs stay on this device, and sync through your own iCloud — which the developer cannot read — only if you turn that on. Nothing you type in the terminal reaches the developer or an AI diagnosis. Only the AI diagnosis sends anything to a service the developer runs, and only when you ask.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.12 — 2026-10-17

New in 1.12: Siri, Shortcuts and a Control Center button.

• Ask Siri "Is my network OK in Pulse" and hear the verdict, with a small card. The app stays closed. Also: "Ping my router with Pulse", "Check a certificate with Pulse" and "What's my IP in Pulse".
• "Pulse my router with Pulse" opens the app and starts watching the path. "Check a service in Pulse" opens a service check.
• Every action is in the Shortcuts app: run Check my network from an automation (when you join the office Wi-Fi, say) or the Action button, and be notified only when something is wrong.
• Add Check network to Control Center: one tap runs a Health Check, and the verdict arrives as a notification. Tap it to open the run.
• Fixed a crash when you tap a Pulse notification, such as a certificate alert.

Pulse sends nothing new anywhere.

### 1.11 — 2026-10-15

Pulse 1.11 adds Web check: see where a slow page loses its time.

WEB CHECK (PULSE PRO)
Type any address and Pulse loads the whole page the way a browser does, in a private session that keeps nothing. It shows a picture of what loaded, then says where the time went: redirects, DNS, connecting, TLS, the server's wait, the download, or everything else the page pulled in. One sentence names the slow part; a bar shows the rest. When iOS hides the network timing for the page itself, Pulse times one separate request to the server, and says so.

BY SITE
Every request the page made, grouped by site: this site first, then the fonts, scripts, analytics and ads it pulled in, with their share of the time. A size another site keeps private reads "not disclosed", never zero.

WHERE YOU LANDED
A Wi-Fi login, a cookie wall or a block page can't pass for the real site: the picture shows it, and the verdict says when a page ended on another site.

FAILURES NAME THE STEP
"Couldn't find…", "Couldn't connect…", or "The certificate isn't trusted on this device", with one tap to the Certificate tool.

IN HISTORY
Every check is kept, and judged again by today's rules each time you open it.

### 1.10 — 2026-10-14

Pulse 1.10 watches the certificates you check, and warns you before one expires.

CERTIFICATE ALERTS (PULSE PRO)
Every certificate you check is now watched. Pulse alerts you 30, 14, 7 and 1 days before it expires, at 9 in the morning, and tells you when it is renewed, stops being trusted, stops matching its name, or the server stops sending its intermediate certificate. Re-checks run in the background whenever iOS allows, about twice a day. A captive portal, or a network that inspects encrypted traffic, is recognised and ignored, so it cannot raise a false alarm. Tap an alert to check the certificate again.

WATCHING
The Certificate tool now shows how many certificates are watched and which expires soonest. Tap it for the full list, most urgent first: tap one to check it again, swipe to stop watching it. The same list sits in Settings, under Certificate alerts, with the switch.

CERTIFICATE FIRST
Certificate now leads the Look up tools. Certificate, DNS and WHOIS open on an empty field, so nothing is checked that you didn't choose.

NO MORE WAITING ON A SILENT HOST
A certificate check against a host that never answers now gives up after 10 seconds, instead of waiting a minute or more.

EASIER TO READ
Amber warnings and figures are a shade deeper, so they read clearly on light backgrounds.

### 1.9 — 2026-10-12

Pulse 1.9 is made for iPhone Duo, and makes Health Check, Dual Pulse and Running now quicker to read.

MADE FOR IPHONE DUO
Stand your iPhone Duo half-open, like a small laptop, and every tool splits at the fold: the path, the graphs and the reports on the standing half, the target, the controls and the keyboard on the flat half, under your thumb. Before you start, the standing half shows every tool and the sessions running now. A row just under the fold takes you back, or straight to the toolbox, from any screen. Open flat, Pulse uses the whole screen, with the toolbox beside your results.

WHAT A HEALTH CHECK TESTED
Under the verdict, every check is now listed with a dot: green passed, amber a warning, red failed, grey not measured. Each check keeps its place on every run, so you learn where DNS is. Tap a name to jump to its full row, even one folded away under the checks that passed.

IPV6 ONLY, SAID ONCE
When your router stops answering and every IPv4 name server goes silent, but the IPv6 ones still answer, the verdict now says so in one line: "Working over IPv6 only — IPv4 is not getting through". You used to see two separate warnings. The DNS row names the family too. And on a network with no IPv4 address, the IPv6 name servers are now asked over IPv6, instead of being reported as failed without asking.

WHICH SIDE IS WHICH
Dual Pulse and every comparison now name each side by what differs ("Wi-Fi (en0)" against "Ethernet (en8)", or "IPv4" against "IPv6") and give it a colour, blue or pink, the same on every card. Each side's figures are single Pulse's own tiles (Cur, Avg, Loss and Jitter, coloured by your thresholds), and a tick marks the better side for Avg, Loss and Jitter. Within 10% is a draw.

SWIPE A RUNNING SESSION
In Running now, swipe a session left to pause, resume or stop it without opening it. A session that failed swipes away with Dismiss.

ON YOUR LOCK SCREEN AND YOUR WATCH
The summary a Pulse leaves behind now says it plainly: "18 min · never went bad", or "went bad 2 times · worst 480 ms". A time it went bad is three bad rounds in a row, the moment Pulse alerts you. On your watch, a paused session now says Paused.

### 1.7 — 2026-09-30

Pulse 1.7 lets you send a Pulse session to someone on another network and compare it with theirs.

SHARE A SESSION
Share session, on a saved session or the one running, sends a link to Messages, Mail and everything else in the share sheet — tap it and Pulse opens the session — and the file to AirDrop and Save to Files. A running session is sent as it stands and keeps running. Your Wi-Fi name, public IP, place and any AI diagnosis are never in the file or the link, and the names of devices on your home network are removed from the path. What the comparison needs stays: the routers along the way, the networks they belong to and your provider's name. Sharing is free: Pulse itself uploads nothing, the link carries the session itself, and the page it opens on peltriaux.com never sees it.

OPEN ONE
Tap the link or the file and Pulse keeps it in History as "Shared by" whoever sent it, apart from your own sessions: it is never offered as one of your recent hosts or as a session to continue, and it is not sent to the AI diagnosis. Opening the same session twice, even once as a link and once as a file, keeps one copy.

COMPARE WITH YOURS
Put it next to one of your own sessions to the same host, or tap Pulse it from here to run one beside it and watch yours fill in live. Two networks part at the first hop, so instead of where the paths part, the comparison shows where the two routes meet (the first router, or the first network, you both pass through) and whether the difference is before that point, on one person's own line, or after it, on the part you share. When the host answers each of you from a different server, it says so and compares the figures alone. Comparing is part of Pulse Pro.

The name your sessions go out under is asked the first time you share, and lives in Settings under This device.
