Punch beats kick, kick beats duck, duck beats punch. Sounds simple, right? Well, the first couple of times, it is. But dealing with eight enemies at the same time is a headache you have to experience to understand. And that’s not even counting all of the modifiers the game throws in to keep you on your toes. Ranged attacks. Enemies that switch attack styles. Even a timer counting down to your death. Worst of all, you can’t take more than one hit. So you’ll be throwing yourself at the same level, the same obstacles over and over again for a long, long time. All of this wouldn’t be so bad if the controls weren’t so bad. The layout consists of six buttons, two for punching, two for kicking, and two for ducking, one of each on either side of the screen. Hit the right one at the right time, the enemy topples to the ground. Hit the wrong one, you’re rewarded with a smack in the face. The problem is that the buttons are crammed so tightly together that you can’t help but mash more than one. It’s like trying to play a piano built for a dollhouse. And keep in mind that a single mistake is enough to end your run. If this were a PC game that I could use a keyboard to play or an endless runner where mistakes don’t count that much, I’d like it a lot better. Maybe all it really needs is bigger buttons with better feedback. But as is, I don’t think I’ll be replaying Punch Kick Duck anytime soon. ### 5/5 — All I have to do is to unprison the ducks friends… *2025-11-15, version 1.14.1* Man that tenth level on difficulty level 3 was so painful and even getting the last badge which that I have to beat 100 hench-critters was also a pain. But I did get the last badge and get all ten golden stars on every level. What a awesome game. The concept itself, the art style, etc. But the gameplay is pretty trash. The main reason is that there is a hard time limit per level. One that never increases. And yet in each level there are more and more opponents. Not to mention those opponents take more hits (in the form of a bottle they can throw) in each level, as more and more opponents come out with a bottle. And the ‘continue’ system is likewise unrealistic. You get 2 hits per level, but can gain a heart (another hit) by comboing hits in a row…. Which is almost impossible when you have to get 18 in a row…. While having 2 enemies attacking on both sides a fraction of a second apart… and have to time your attack or counter with a very small window. You can always spend coins to continue the level (once), but the coins are earned on a drip feed. Minor tweaks could easily make this a 5 star game. As is, it’s not worth it. Edit: And now there are ads every 2-4 attempts…. Went from 2 stars to 1 in my book. Maybe even newer enemies like ones that take more hits than 2 or ones that copy your last move that defeats an enemy.
