## What is Purnote?

Notes you actually own. Purnote keeps every note as a plain Markdown file in your own iCloud Drive - no database, no proprietary format, no lock-in.

Every note is an ordinary .md file in a folder called purnote, so you can open, edit, search, back up or move your notes with any tool you like — on your Mac, in any text editor, forever. Write a note on your phone and it is on your Mac a moment later. Edit it on your Mac and it changes on your phone while you are looking at it.

If you ever stop using Purnote, you still have your notes. That is the whole idea.

• Free — no subscription, no ads, no accounts
• Plain Markdown files, stored in iCloud Drive where you can see them
• Formatting buttons above the keyboard — headings, bold, italic, lists, checklists, quotes, links — so you do not need to know Markdown to write it
• Notes are named after their first line, so the folder makes sense on your Mac
• Rendered notes with headings, tables, task lists and code blocks
• Organise notes in folders
• Full text search across every note
• Works without iCloud too, keeping notes on this iPhone

Purnote collects nothing. There are no accounts, no analytics, and no servers other than your own iCloud.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.3.0 — 2026-09-16

• Checklists you can tap - tick boxes right on the page.
• Tap anywhere to edit - the cursor lands where you tap.
• Return keeps lists going - bullets, numbers and checklists.
• Bigger text, larger tap targets, and a formatting bar with every style in reach.
• Your notes now appear in the Files app on the iPhone even without iCloud.

### 1.2 — 2026-08-20

Small refinements and polish. Thanks for using Purnote!

### 1.1 — 2026-08-16

A cleaner, calmer place to write.

Purnote 1.1 is a big step up in feel and polish:

- A fresh, writing-focused design - warm background, larger titles, and comfortable margins that make longer notes a pleasure.
- Smarter search - now finds partial words as you type (search "mark" to find "markdown"), searches every folder at once, and sits at the bottom of the screen within easy thumb reach.
- Tap anywhere to edit - no more aiming at the text; tap anywhere on a note to start writing.
- Nicer lists - rounded checklist boxes, note counts on folders, and clearer previews.
- A friendly start - a fresh install now begins with a few example notes instead of a blank screen.

As always, every note is just a plain Markdown file in your iCloud Drive - yours to keep, move, or back up anywhere.

### 1.0 — 2026-08-12

No release notes.
