### 2/5 — Fine set of puzzle games

*2026-07-10*

Solid app with a fine set of puzzle games, especially if you like a bit of competition. That said, to get the full suite of games, you gotta be willing to add another subscription service to your monthly bill. The archive interface is also a bit clunky

### 2/5 — Ads block the game

*2026-06-18*

I really love this app. I decided that I just can’t handle the NYT games, even, with how trashy the journalism has become, so I found a new app. It has great games and I don’t mind the ads in general, but there is one type that hides the lower portion of the screen and you can’t play. Closing the app doesn’t help; it’s still there. So, if it were playable, would give it 5 stars. As it is…I don’t think I’ll continue playing.

### 3/5 — Great if you speak American

*2026-06-06, version 1.2.3*

Loads of excellent puzzles here which bring me back every morning. However the word puzzles in particular would be greatly improved if the devs brought in a non-US English speaker as a checker. Circuits in particular uses Americanisms and on some days is inaccessible to international audiences including the world’s native English speakers.

### 4/5 — Great app but broken Pepsi ads make games unplayable

*2026-02-21*

Please ban those stupid Pepsi adds that cover over your entire UI. I can’t play circuits without a non X-able cherry Pepsi ad blocks the entire keyboard. Great app but do better.

### 3/5 — Hard on Senior Eyes

*2026-01-18, version 1.2.1*

I enjoy the games but sometimes it’s hard to play the games because you can’t zoom in to see, especially on an iPhone. I have an annual subscription but this is causing me to wonder about renewing.

### 4/5 — Love Pile-Up-Poker

*2025-12-30, version 1.2.1*

ESPECIALLY for those couple of days when the first game of the day gave me all the cards at once to play around with and find the best combo. Bring that back please!

### 3/5 — Cool app, needs new writers

*2025-12-06, version 1.2.1*

I feel like some of these writers think of clues that sound great in their heads, but in reality, gets lost in the audience. In other words, some of these crossword writers suck and use references that are way too new and niche. Also, a lot of LGBTQ agenda pushing. Like a lot of it. ALSO would love to rate each crossword board just so puzzmo knows who sucks and who doesn’t suck at writing clues.

### 2/5 — Revokes paid access even after paying for the month

*2025-10-15, version 1.2.1*

Had to cancel my sub after a few months because of personal circumstances. Canceled in iOS settings the day after my sub renewed, so it should have been good until November. Opened Puzzmo later that same day, and there was a message saying I had reached my free game limit, prompting me to sign up for a free week. I had to re-subscribe to regain access for the month I had already paid for, which of course means that I now need to set a calendar entry for the day before renewal to cancel again. Come on, folks, this is basic stuff.

### 4/5 — Really bad chess is frustrating

*2025-10-13*

While I love Puzzmo and the games that it offers, I find the chess game mode really frustrating. I understand the idea behind it, and I think it has potential. But as someone who doesn’t play chess very often, I can’t honestly say it’s fun to throw myself at the two daily chess games against a relatively unforgiving AI, especially when the game plays nothing like actual chess. It’s especially frustrating when you finish every other game, only to be left with chess to finish the page.
Again, I don’t entirely dislike the concept of the game, but I think the game would seriously benefit from some sort of difficulty setting at the expense of points. I think being able to lower the elo of your opponent would make the game much more fun, and finishing a page would actually feel enjoyable, rather than a test of patience after finishing the rest of the games.

### 1/5 — Pay wall

*2025-10-02, version 1.2.1*

I used to always do the Puzzmo puzzles in the morning with my mom, it was our thing. But when they made this GINORMOUS pay wall that blocked of most of the fun games we couldn’t play anymore. Apparently they are just greedy for more money.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Great app until it broke

*2026-06-26, version 1.2.3*

I can no longer get Puzzmo to open. I get the yellow screen and nothing else. It can’t just be me? I’m on an iPhone 12.

### 1/5 — Now Pay to play

*2026-03-08, version 1.2.3*

This game was good for a few months, but now rather than being able to play 5-6 puzzles/games for free or as a subscriber, they suddenly changed to one puzzle a day unless you pay for membership. Not sure why they had to ruin the experience that way. Sad to delete.

### 1/5 — Greedy

*2026-01-21, version 1.2.1*

All of these app developers are getting more and more out of touch, putting everything behind a paywall. Was nice to play while it was free but no daily puzzling app is worth a subscription (MAYBE a one time purchase if it’s good) Capitalism kills innovation.

### 1/5 — The changes aren’t worth it

*2026-01-18*

I used to routinely use this app along with NYT, and actually preferred it over NYT most days. Over the past month, they have restricted most of the games to subscription only. I have paid the subscription when I could afford it, I loved the extra three game categories and bonus incentives from the sub. Now, you can’t even play Typeshift or sudoku without paying for a monthly subscription. It is disappointing to have to delete the app, but it is even more disappointing to open it. I’ve downloaded each feature game as the original solo app (by the same company), and made a folder for them. I’d much rather switch between the company’s other apps and daily puzzles than pay or restricted just because they’ve consolidated for you.
Very disappointing when it’s clear that contributors and devs put so much time into it. I’m sure I’m not the only one deleting this app data this month. Can’t say I’ll miss it enough to ever come back, but it was good while it lasted.

### 1/5 — insane paywall

*2025-12-30, version 1.2.1*

Pretty much every game becomes locked once you hit the game cap. So useless without a paid subscription. And there’s no way these little games deserve a monthly or annual subscription.

### 1/5 — All the games are blocked now

*2025-12-10, version 1.2.1*

I used to have limited access to most games, then I got the free trial for pro and when that trial expired I can only play the crosswords :(

### 1/5 — ~Nov 2025 changes make it unusable, Great crosswords and puzzle design

*2025-11-18*

Edit: seems the MBAs won: new daily limit of 3 games (simultaneously added a mini crossword to soak up one of those), scummy gambling ads, previously free games paywalled. Doesn't bode well, feels like their funding patrons are squeezing it in advance of a jettison

I really appreciate Brooke's editing of crosswords and Zach Gage's puzzle design and prototyping.

The crosswords are frequently novel and high quality, and I enjoy learning about global cultures from the clues.

I wish prototypes were freely available in beta, and that paywalled games had a free "tutorial" puzzle.

Might help conversions?

### 1/5 — Misleading Free Trial

*2025-11-11*

I wanted to get an honest experience from this app before committing to paying for a subscription. Unfortunately, I obliged to the free week of Puzzmo Plus and I “canceled” it for renewal in my settings/subscriptions to make sure I don’t forget just in case. If I liked the game I could always pay the 3.99 later. The subscription list in my settings states that the subscription ends November 18th, however I have ads and the same games and options that are blocked on the unpaid version are blocked. So this was a waste of a free trial and it’s hard not to assume that it’s because I “canceled” even though it says I SHOULD have access to the trial until November 18th. Kinds deters me from wanting to pay for it if the trial has issues and I can’t even get the full experience. Seems very misleading.

### 1/5 — Free means useless

*2025-10-29, version 1.2.1*

I get not being able to play the archives, but suddenly I’ve “reached my puzzle cap.” There’s no documentation about this anywhere. I have no idea of this is a daily, weekly, monthly, or all time cap. The app bricked itself and i will be uninstalling.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2025-10-02, version 1.2.1*

I am sadly uninstalling this game. Up until the other day most games gave you one or two goes for free if many puzzles. If even got me thinking about re subscribing. Now they have removed most of the access to the free games bar two puzzles and two crossword style I don’t like crosswords and used to love trying to peat others score. It helped keep my injured brain working hard.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — App not opening

*2026-07-09*

I have been having a REAL hard time opening this app recently. It just doesn’t wanna open anymore, I usually have to wait until I’m home to do the puzzles on my laptop or my PC. Please fix this ASAP, I LOVE your app!

### 5/5 — Stunning (if I could use it)

*2026-07-01, version 1.2.3*

I LOVE Puzzmo, as a disclaimer, but since a few days ago all I get is the yellow screen before the app closes itself… I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling too, and apparently it’s not just me with this issue. Pls look into fixing it!!

App issues aside, the free puzzles are great, if not very Americanised, but most crossword clues can be solved once you get the other connecting answers (plus some brute forcing doesn’t hurt anyone). The circuits are much harder with the Americanisms, but still not impossible with the bolt system, which I love. Very very worth it to kill a few minutes during the day… when it opens.

### 5/5 — 🐠🫧✨absolutely obsessed! the subscription IS worth it :D

*2026-02-13, version 1.2.2*

ik a lot of people are rating the app poorly due to the paywall/daily game cap. one of the developers explained the reasoning in their discord server, which was that, (from what i remember) in order to continue to support the app, they could either add video ads or change how the daily games are limited in the free version of the app. i believe the community and/or developers decided it would be better to limit the game cap than to have to have ads popping up/displaying.

now onto my actual review: i LOVE puzzmo! i go totally obsessed w pile up poker over the summer, and i absolutely chewed through the daily games. i managed to get one of my roommates to start playing with me, which led to my interest in the other games. i was definitely hesitant to spend the money to get a yearly subscription, but i absolutely do not regret it. i literally cannot imagine not playing 90% of the games every single day with my roommates now. i think ive gotten five or six people to download it at this point, lol.

overall, the games are insanely fun to play, whether it be by yourself or competing against/playing with friends (depending on how competitive you are lol). the ui is also insanely cute, and i really appreciate how dedicated the team behind it is to listening to community feedback and constantly improving the experience.

overall, highly highly recommend it, especially the premium version. if you decide to download it, see if you can spot me sometime @spock#:3 !

### 5/5 — Love the app / interface special request

*2026-02-09*

This app is my favorite - especially the crossword. When I found myself doom scrolling, I’d exit social media and do a few crossword puzzles from the vault instead. Now my mental health is soaring.

The app is perfect on a phone but it’s a bit difficult to play on a tablet. The puzzle is tiny and you can’t zoom in. IIIIIIIf you’re taking requests, any chance we could get an update that allows the crossword to take up most of the screen?

I’d also love an option where you only get one clue at a time- having all the clues take up the whole screen can be a bit distracting.

Love yall. Love your puzzles. Thanks so much for creating this app!

### 5/5 — Cute UX and Fun Puzzles

*2026-01-13*

I never write app reviews but had to come on to share my love of this app! I love the mix of unique and classic puzzles to play and look forward to doing them each day. Would highly recommend!

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2025-12-09*

I love little puzzles and these are some of the best. There’s a few I don’t really engage with, but there are so many different games that it doesn’t matter!

### 5/5 — Great crosswords and puzzle design

*2025-12-02, version 1.2.1*

The crosswords are awesome

### 5/5 — Amazing!

*2025-11-06*

Downloaded after NYT paywalled the mini crossword 😒 NYT ain’t got NOTHING on Puzzmo! Crosswords aren’t too easy or too hard and same with the hints! There are usually multiple to do per day. No annoying ads! The other games are pretty fun too and there are a lot of free options. Would love a game like connections though 👀
