### 3/5 — Freezing Up

*2025-06-24, version 11.1.6*

When I go into edit mode and copy/paste, it freezes up. Have to force close and the next time I launch it it won’t open. Just sits there with the logo. Have to wait…then open again. This is happening regularly recently.

For example, if I want to temp copy a password to the notes field as I am updating information..it happens a lot.

### 4/5 — OneDrive Ossues

*2025-02-08, version 10.6.9*

Sometimes it will open my safe in my OneDrive, many times not. Works on iPad but not iPhone.
I upgraded to iOS 18.3 and the app is working now.

### 2/5 — Update does not feel like an update

*2025-01-19, version 10.6.8*

After the update, the app looks and feel incomplete. I have been using this app for a long time. Noticed that I am unable to change the group within the entry, or anywhere else. Does not feel like I have the paying version anymore. If someone from customer support could reach out, that would be greatly appreciated.

### 3/5 — Hate the new layout

*2025-01-14*

Have used this app for quite a while and always liked it.
It used to be a 5 star app, but the new layout is awful – there’s no field to input email addies and it’s been so simplified it feels like it’s now aimed at 5 year olds.
Sorry guys, but it only feels worth 3 stars now.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback. To input email address tap the '+' button at the bottom right. That will also give you access to powerful new features like adding TOTP and attachments (for V4 databases).

### 3/5 — Only in english

*2024-12-23, version 10.6.1*

Somehow the german version got lost- no drama but it still would be nice to have it back- so far safe does what it is supposed to do…
Did I miss the information about new owners?

### 5/5 — New owner new progress

*2024-12-21, version 10.6.0*

Under the new owner I like the upgrade process. New features, design and flow updates. Thanks for helping to have that app alive. I like it

### 3/5 — Missing notes field in new entry window.

*2024-12-17, version 10.6.0*

What happened to the notes field in the new entry window? It's gone! Why remove important functionality?

### 5/5 — Best password manager!

*2024-11-04, version 10.5.0*

This password app is amazing and works as advertised. I'm loving the update and the new dark icon. Thank you so much!

### 5/5 — Pass safe

*2024-09-13, version 10.3.6*

I can’t get the darn safe open - This was my review before -My son installed this for me and I don’t know what I would do without it—- Now WHAT? What did you do to close this thing to crash? How am I supposed to get to my passwords now?— can I change this to zero stars or I guess one is as low as I can get?

### 4/5 — Great App

*2024-08-27*

I have always used this app since getting my iPhone and although it doesn’t appear I. Done of the top 10 by some reviewers it’s clear and simple and keeps my important data safe

### 5/5 — Great little utility I have used for years

*2024-08-16, version 10.3.0*

Nice compact little password utility that doesn’t try to do everything, unlike the larger password managers. Cross platform for Mac, iOS and Windows, which it is a great help. Developer very responsive to requests for features, and support is top notch.

Easy to set up and maintain, and just works.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — El otro de allá

*2026-07-30, version 12.4.6*

No good. No clear instructions. No options with no star. This review is much, much less than one star.

### 1/5 — Keeps scrambling my password database

*2026-06-20, version 12.4.2*

Keeps scrambling my password database. Fortunately it’s in Dropbox so I could restore the previous version. Unusable for me sadly.

### 1/5 — Changes only for the sake of money

*2026-03-14, version 12.0.4*

Used to be, you could open up a copy of your database using local file now you can’t now you have to pay and store it on a cloud for a monthly fee zero stars

### 1/5 — auto lock is broken and pisses me off!

*2025-12-06, version 11.4.4*

Don't waste your money

### 1/5 — Broken

*2025-03-10*

Last update removed clod file access

**Developer response:** Please open a support request using Settings - Support Request, so we can find out what is causing this. Nothing has been removed.

### 1/5 — Was a great app until forcing layout change

*2024-12-22*

I have loved and used this PW app for years now, but after the new layout mode was inflicted on me with the latest version, I hate it! Even though you can change back to legacy display mode in settings, the app description states that they’ll be doing away with the legacy view mode in the next version being released. I can’t understand why the developer would force users into the new layout, especially when you won’t be able to revert to legacy mode anymore in the future releases. When I open a PW entry, I want to see ALL fields by default, not just what the app decides to show me. Just another great app ruined by developers who just can’t leave well enough alone. I will NOT be updating this app from this point forward.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback! We can easily add an option to always show all fields, this will be included before the old layout is removed. BTW, the new layout hides empty fields only, so this new option will add all empty fields to the screen.

### 1/5 — Your upgrade to pw2 lost 14 years worth of passwords

*2024-09-02, version 10.3.4*

The upgrade to PWSafe 2 erased all my passwords. I have tried all types of troubleshooting including purchasing more iCloud storage, subscription to dropbox and another subscription for password safe and nothing has helped so now I’m out all of my passwords and $15. Better get it back up to your back up if you want to use this app.

### 1/5 — Very good

*2024-08-31, version 10.3.2*

I depend on it constantly. Affordable and functional. I like it and have no problems with it.
Addendum. Suddenly cannot access anything in the app. Devastating.

### 1/5 — Ok

*2024-08-10, version 10.2.2*

Not easy to use. Often will not sync

### 1/5 — Doesn’t open my safe

*2024-07-27, version 10.1.9*

Every time I try to log in to my safe it says that “your device couldn’t connect to the server”. It’s been happening for over a month and nothing seems to fix it

### 5/5 — The. Best. Authentication. Manager. Period.

*2026-03-28, version 12.0.6*

Mar. 27, 2026 update: Over seven years later and still the best. Forget all the details below as it’s gone above and beyond. The new features don’t really jump out — I missed one like Custom Fields until it put up a tip. So seek out the documentation and see why pwSafe 2 is still the best and safest.
Oct. 17, 2018 update: The best authentication/secret numbers manager just got even better! Check out the new auto fill capability in iOS 12. Wow. It now sits parallel to Keychain, and in settings you can choose either or both. It now works seamlessly with apps, and even better than using the extension for web sites. It recognizes the app or web site, and recommends a username/password (which is easily changed if you have multiple logins at the same site). Tap once, enter your pwSafe passcode, and sit back as pwSafe auto fills your unique username and your 24-character customized randomly generated password. One more tap and you are logged in. I've tried a lot of the other password managers and this is absolutely the best of show. - - - I used pwsafe on Unix for years, and was very happy to find this file-compatible app for my iPad. Just to compare, I tried about 10 other apps and found none that had the ease of use, the flexibility or the security of pwSafe 2. This app has just the right features — easily defined custom password creation, password history (wonderful when an app refuses your new password) and sufficient fields to enter every situation I have come across with 140 saved password sites. It's also easy to use to securely save credit card or driving license numbers and then paste them instead of typing them. The Notes field is terrific. Groups are very useful. I use the Safari extension to directly fill usernames and passwords into web sites. Fill-in for apps works as well, but very few of them support the emerging de facto method. It's good that it is easy to use because the one thing lacking is respectable documentation. Most of the other password manager apps are lacking here as well. I am very confused by the comments about Dropbox sync not working. I am here to tell you that I use it every day and it works just fine. It is good to not make a subsequent edit until the current one has synchronized. Keep an eye on the network activity spinner. Love this app!

### 5/5 — Excellent Support

*2026-02-26, version 12.0.4*

I filled in an issue and a new update came out in a few days. Great support considering the process of releasing app via App Store. Thank you Richard!!

### 5/5 — Works like a charm.

*2026-02-22, version 12.0.0*

This is by far the best password program. Runs on many platforms (Windows, Mac, etc) and is easy to use. Been using it for over 2 decades. Would hate to be without it.

### 5/5 — Immer noch langjähriger zufriedener Benutzer

*2025-09-27*

### 5/5 — Найкраща програма !

*2025-09-18, version 11.3.4*

Супер програма !

### 5/5 — Simple, no-fills password app, no subscription, just the way I want it

*2025-08-28*

Have been using PWSafe since the 1st version, both desktop and iOS versions, and at one point, was using DropBox sync until dev added iCloud support and works beautifully accessing between 5 iOS and 6 MacOS. Developer is also super responsive. Any bugs we encounter, we just contact them and either walks us through the problem or publish a bug fix quickly. Love it! Also as a longtime user I really appreciate the fact that the dev has not morphed it into subscription only model like so many other “pro” version apps I purchased, forcing me to abandon and find another.
I don’t understand some of the negative reviews commenting on monthly subscriptions, etc since you don’t need to do that at all. Dev is also the most responsive ever since the original dev passed the torch to the new. So take all the negatives with a grain of salt since I suspect they may be confusing with some other app or just assuming without understanding.
This is a no-frills Pw manager app. And SIMPLE to use. But supports multiple safes, in addition to categorizing within a single safe file, etc for various use environments as well as generating random codes, simple clipboard pasting, etc. I use it to track my passwords as well as separate safe file to store all my software/app registration keys so I only need to type the 32 character registration codes once and never lose the hard copy and be stuck trying to activate after an SSD crash. I have used this between Mac and Windows PWSafe via Dropbox and works flawlessly (much more difficult if using iCloud.. but that is Apple issue and not PWSafe issue). I am also happy that the app does not force me into using a built in browser…just simple copy onto clipboard with a simple click and go to your favorite browser!
My whole family uses it including elderly parents and a 10yr old, who just need something simple to replace all the post-it pads they scribble and try to remember the passwords that frequently get lost. It definitely beats trying to track hundreds of passwords on encrypted spreadsheets, etc thanks to its simple search/copy paste functions.
Files are easily accessible in iCloud Drive, so I just routinely back it up along with any other computer files, etc.
love it for its simplicity.

### 5/5 — Very Good App, and no ads or unnecessary ‘features’

*2025-01-25*

I’ve use this app for at least ten years. The few problems I had were simply in understanding some of its minor UI quirks. It has never lost any data, and syncs perfectly over iCloud between iPhone and iPad. As far as I know, my data has never been hacked either.

Thank you.

### 5/5 — Just Awesome

*2025-01-24, version 10.6.9*

I’ve been using pwSafe for several years now. We used it to securely share our administrator passwords when I worked IT. I retired, but I hung on to pwSafe. I suggested the username dropdown, it sure makes life easier!

### 5/5 — Einer der besten…

*2024-12-29*

Seit vielen Jahren bei mir auf iPhone und Mac im Einsatz ohne jegliche Probleme. Einer der Besten seiner Art! Vielen Dank an das gesamte Team!

### 5/5 — Updated: Was a great app….

*2024-12-25*

Updated Review: Developer contacted me and said they’ll continue to provide an option to enable legacy view in future releases. This is important to me because I like to see all available PW entry fields, regardless of whether they’re populated or not. This acts as an instant reminder to me as to which fields are available in the event I decide to create, edit or clone a record. Thank you.

I have loved and used this PW app for years now, but after the new layout mode was inflicted on me with the latest version, I hate it! I will NOT be updating this app from this point forward.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the updated review. To avoid any misunderstanding: the legacy layout will be available during the 10.6.x update while we make sure that all reported issues and suggestions are addressed. Like yours, keep an eye out for 10.6.3 (to be released soon) which will automatically show all common fields (like username and notes) while editing an entry, so you don't even need to change a setting for that. I think that addresses the issue you raised earlier. Please give it a try when it is released, if there is anything else that needs improvement in your opinion, we are very much interested to know. All 10.6.x versions will have the option to revert to the legacy layout, so you can safely upgrade to any 10.6.x version without losing that ability.
