### 4/5 — Great idea- filled with some bugs

*2026-02-22*

Great idea. Love the ability to make a game/list building concept I can easily share with my friends. Unfortunately the app crashes when I try to add or edit tallies.

There’s a lot of potential. I love the counters, as well as the various means to apply concepts. I love how much can be edited. I hope to see the app cleaned up over time. I’ve owned it since 2017, and it’s simplicity at the time was nice. Now it just needs clean up.

### 4/5 — Great app - missing some key info

*2025-10-15*

Love this app, it’s honestly amazing. However, from an Old World perspective, I wish there was a better solution to the rules for magical items / runes. The app doesn’t show you the effects of these which means I have to use alternatives when list building.

### 2/5 — Missing key functionality

*2024-05-29*

Missing functionality that the free apps/websites have, which is disappointing given the price point. It should have: - a system that lets you know if your list is legal or not - rules/weapons/banners summary as well as just profiles - in-game aids that let you track points destroyed/25% casualties etc Other than this, the UI is good and it’s easy to use. The summary pages present your list better than any other apps. So given I’ve paid the money, I’ll probably use the better apps to draft the list, then copy it into QM to print out. This isn’t enough to recommend the price tag though, which is a shame.

### 4/5 — Changes to the app

*2023-01-06*

The recent changes are good with the exception of one thing. The percentages for the segments of the army. When you’re building the army it’s a little harder to build without the very helpful percentages. Thanks

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review! Just tap the total points value in the top right of the draft view to turn on percentages.

### 4/5 — Very Good App but a Few Bugs

*2022-11-05*

One of the best army building apps I’ve used but with a few bugs. Main one recently (even though there has been no update to the app) is that my lists have vanished (not cleared cache or data) and it seems to only allow one faction (if I load Mechanicum then Astartes disappears as a faction to pick).

### 2/5 — Meh

*2022-09-10*

Not a fan. Doesn’t separate legion specific items, just throws it all together. Bugged out on me and left me with no faction data. Only thing I can say is they did get the HH 2.0 data up quickly.

### 2/5 — Nice app but missing HH data

*2022-07-26*

For being paid, I was hoping all HH data would be readily available, but it seems the exemplary and legacy units have yet to be added. Once these are added app rating would be a 4 or 5.

**Developer response:** All factions are contributed by other Quartermaster users, and if you find something missing you can always add it yourself. That being said, all these units were added a few weeks ago, any chance of a new review?

### 3/5 — Not bad but needs work.

*2022-06-30*

Not super user friendly or intuitive. The user guide is a must read. Overall the app is a cool idea but it feels like it needs a ton of work on the users end imputing data to really build a list. Feels kind of like a spreadsheet that looks cool.

### 2/5 — Bugs

*2022-06-27*

Lots of bugs from wrong points to not being able to add more than 1x weapon to combi- bolters, weird tick instead of 1x heavy flamer but it's charging for 5, and a few others. I'm guessing the data is new and input roughly and not debugged. Other than these the app is fantastic I will update my review once the Horus Heresy 2nd Ed is updated to fix errors

### 2/5 — Cool app but

*2021-09-06, version 5.8.8*

Crashes non stop

### 4/5 — This is a build your own adventure app

*2021-08-31*

In the world of wargamming I have not found the perfect app for list building but this app is close. The ability to make your own army entries allows me to add all the awesome fan made 30k units and armies. A great place to make lists on the spot and not get bogged down by the ridiculous amount of information some other apps give you.

### 3/5 — Learning

*2021-05-29*

Figuring it out. Make sure you download every section for your game system. That enables the lists to populate. Don’t just grab the top headline thinking it includes everything else.

### 2/5 — Too slow to update

*2020-05-22*

I would give this more stars... I love the interface. It’s user friendly and the ability to easily edit it is awesome. However it’s updates are soooooooo far behind, I’m wondering if they are even working on it anymore. The space marine codex came out last fall and as of this they have not updated it to include it. It is about 6-8 months behind in updates. I prefer Quartermaster to BattleScribe but, if I can’t use it the point is moot. Very disappointed for the money I paid for it.

### 4/5 — Necromunda stuff doesn’t work

*2020-03-26*

All the faction files get deleted whenever you close down the app and it never saves a draft for a necromunda faction. Tried reinstalling the app but it’s still broken. Emailed support but no reply.
Everything else seems to work really well.

### 5/5 — Smooth interface

*2020-02-13*

Like the fact it’s stored on your device so can use offline

### 5/5 — Fantastic app

*2020-02-05*

Mega easy to use, worth paying for

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Only 2nd edition?

*2025-04-13*

Trying to get a proper battle sheet for Warhammer 40K 10th edition. But this one only has 2nd edition. So outdated and I wasted money as a result.

### 1/5 — Very Unhappy With Version 6

*2022-12-20*

Editing and creating lists is now an absolute chore, either I need a tutorial video on how to use this version or simple list creation tools, like copying an entire list to edit and rename, are impossible now.

Printing off an army list used to be great, the army list was beautiful and had as much detail as the list creator wanted to program in. Now the army lists are plain and may as well be a plain Word document.

If there isn’t an option to go back to Version 5 I am probably dropping this app altogether.

**Developer response:** Please get in touch at support@quartermaster.app with details so I can fix any issues you’re experiencing.

### 1/5 — 7.99 for nothing

*2020-04-14*

This is not user friendly and I have no idea how to work it. I don’t think I’m a moron but I certainly feel like one.

### 1/5 — Really disappointed

*2020-01-09*

Downloaded this app to use for Necromunda and it is not intuitive or user friendly at all. There is also no user guide available which is also incredibly frustrating and lazy for a product that requires an up front fee. A serious waste of money!!!

### 1/5 — Better than Excel?

*2019-10-06*

TL;DR: Excel is the same app as this. Save your money. 3 years since v5 release with no user guide.

I’m a newly returning table top gamer after decades of inactivity. I had been introduced to a different application during my first session.

That application really helped but I wanted something a little more full featured. I really hoped this was is it. It’s not.

Even after downloading the templates it’s still a lot of manual entry and data manipulation. Hoping this was just an error on my part I tried to find the user guide. The side said it was coming soon for v5 so I looked at v4 user guide. Which was no help. Decided to check app version history to see when v5 came out... over 3 years ago.

It’s been 3 years and no user guide on how to use the application. At $8 a pop a user guide release within 3 months of a major version release should be expected at a near minimum. This isn’t some freebie app where you get what you can since it’s free.

### 1/5 — What are you guys thinking?

*2019-08-29, version 5.7.3*

Regretted purchase almost instantly. I am a 40k player and found this system clumsy. Stick to battle scribe.

### 1/5 — Rip off.

*2017-10-31*

Why don’t you just release yet another version and charge more people again you muppet. You’ve done it before why not do it again? Don’t buy this unless you want to buy it again 6-12 months later.

### 1/5 — Avoid

*2016-03-23, version 5.0.4*

Product not intuitive and doesn't seem to work as advertised. No user guide or tutorial.

### 1/5 — Downgrade

*2016-02-23, version 5.0.2*

So we abandoned the old quartermaster for quartermaster 5, and all that really seems to have changed is that we can no longer edit army templates. What a waste of time.

### 1/5 — Previous version was better!

*2016-01-04, version 5.0*

The previous version was far better, lesser bugs etc

Mistaking my added Horus Heresy twice on the template and now I have two versions which is annoying.

A lot of user interface has devolved and harder to use. Previously it was easier to delete units by swiping and duplicating by holding on but these useful features were removed.

This version is definitely not an upgrade, I'd even pay to have the old one up on the store again

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Handy and efficient

*2024-12-24*

Highly recommended, the builder you need for many games. Must have for Necromunda.

### 5/5 — Just perfect

*2024-12-18*

Such an amazing app. Able to save gangs, print out cards and lookup key rules instantly. For any necromunda player it’s a must have. Surprised I haven’t heard of this sooner!

### 5/5 — Long time fan

*2024-01-29*

This app is the go to for any gamer out there

### 5/5 — Best App for Army building

*2022-08-28*

Really love this app for army building, found it to be the best one I’ve used so far and the active response from the dev team is exceptional at time of writing this review

### 5/5 — Easy to Use!

*2022-07-13*

Really easy to use and mock up lists. Doesn’t try to enforce rules perfectly but helps you out. Because of this simplicity, updates to the game systems are quick and easy!

### 5/5 — Beat army building app I ever used.

*2022-06-30*

A lot better then the other apps I’ve used to build army’s. Perfect to list hammer with.

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2022-01-29*

I have no idea why people use BattleScribe. Quartermaster is far, far superior.

### 5/5 — The most intuitive Wargame Army List App

*2021-08-20*

A must have for any tabletop wargame enthusiast. Brilliantly simple, Quartermaster is a top line, if not, the best wargame Army list app available. It covers a broad range of tabletop games with a function that allows for community contribution to templates. It’s very intuitive to use, and can be exported into easy to read PDF or text formats for those traditionalists that prefer to print their treasured army lists.

### 5/5 — Best Army builder out there

*2020-10-17*

Quartermaster is the best app going for list hammering. Easy to use, updates quickly and fast response from developers when contacted.

### 5/5 — Incredible!

*2020-04-03*

Honestly such a useful app. Really intuitive and easy to use.
