### 5/5 — Tradition continues

*2021-05-27*

Been a huge fan of Spider Web games since day one and Queens Wish does not disappoint. Really happy playing on my phone and looking forward to new titles.

One request is that game saves could go into iCloud so I could play on laptop at home and pickup in the place on phone on my commute.

### 5/5 — Update on previous review

*2021-02-13*

The issue I had has been resolved. My screen settings were set to zoom.

### 5/5 — Next adventure?

*2020-11-18*

I can’t wait for the next episode.

### 5/5 — Best RPG ON MOBLIE!!!

*2020-05-22*

This is probably the best RPG on the iPhone! Pay once and enjoy the whole game! A breath of fresh air compared to the pay to win rpgs that plague mobile platforms! Glad Jeff finally ported a game to the iPhone!

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2020-04-22, version v1.0.2*

Well done spiderweb another great title and love the fact of playing it on iPhone!

### 5/5 — Surprisingly

*2020-02-28, version v1.0.2*

Was very surprised by how much fun this game is!!!!Great work!

### 5/5 — Another awesome Spiderweb game

*2020-02-18*

Really enjoyed this game. Choices seemed to matter.

### 5/5 — A Blast from Start to Finish

*2020-01-29*

This is my first spiderweb software game. I've been interested in them for a long time, but it's hard for me to play long point-and-click rpgs on my computer when I already work an office job. When I saw the new one had an iOS release, I dove in immediately.

I completed the game, finishing nearly every quest, and had a blast the whole time. The iOS environment is snappy and feels great (after you turn on manual scrolling). The story is thoughtful and well-written, and the fighting and resource management never stops being fun and strategic. I absolutely love that you can't grind for resources, I actually had to think and do quests to progress.

Great game, great introduction to the Vogel oeuvre. Extremely excited for whatever's next.

### 5/5 — An immersive and amusing party rpg

*2020-01-28*

Lots of areas of development one this game to tend to from party to towns. The writing for JV games is always a welcome amusement. If you are experienced not only playing but beating his games I recommend playing it on hard. Though even on normal the end of the game is punishing however still manageable. I don’t know how it will be on hard. I give the guy respect for creating an entirely new game pretty much from the last series. Even though this is not for us more than it is for him as he gets bored. Because there was nothing wrong with the old format he just gets tired of looking at it from what I understand. I wish he would develop it into an MMORPG. For that he would need to expand his team of course from a one man show. However I know he would do it right and he wouldn’t have to worry about money anymore, so he can take more risks with different types of game creation. Because I’m interested to know what else is inside his imagination. Salute to him and his wife.

### 5/5 — Cloud Save

*2020-01-23*

Have to restart because my game was deleted. I don’t guess there’s a backup anywhere.

### 5/5 — Great story and easy mechanics.

*2020-01-13*

Well written story. I like the choices the game gives to your world actions and in dialogue. Excellent overall UI when it comes to iPhone. First 2d top down turn based rpg I’ve played on a small iPhone that works well!

The mechanics are okay. They dumbed it down to a simple tech tree with a culture overlay. I was surprised that you can instant reskill, which takes away the risk of choices, in favor of accessibility and playability.

Overall this is the best 2d turn based rpg on a small ios screen I’ve played. I find the game a little pg13 but the stories inside are worth your time. I appreciate the social commentaries in the game that doesn’t try to preach to me. Also this is a nice rpg that you can play at your own pace. Don’t need to sit down for hours. You can play for a minute or two at a time.

Game style clicks with me since I enjoy gold box, classic ultima, bg1/2, fallout1,2, shadowrun games.

This developer deserves to stay in business and make more games. Good work Jeff and team!!

### 4/5 — Great Storyline

*2020-01-08*

Spiderweb Software’s games are my favourite for their storylines, and so far this game hasn’t disappointed.

### 4/5 — I MISS LOOTING!!

*2019-12-29*

It was probably 10 hours in before I got into the game enough enjoy it enough to justify buying it. I am a big fan of Avadon and a huge fan of Avernum. And that naturally colored both my likes and dislikes based on similarities and differences.

I love that the same simple, graceful look carried over for the most part. I’ve seen it called “old-style” though I’ve played a lot of older games and find Spiderweb’s look unique. I love the way the world unfolds. I have to admit I’m the type who cares less about strategies and more about the story. And finding treasure. I do so love finding treasure. And the bits of trash as well. Drove me crazy for a while passing all these items and being unable to interact with them. I also don’t really care much about building forts and stocking them with distilleries. Oh look, another piece of wood...

Overall, it’s a good game. But I think it’s moving away from some of the previous games’ strengths. It feels more linear and less open world in my opinion. Quests unfold in the three separate areas, but still seem pretty built on top of one another. I never really got lost or needed a guide. Maybe that sounds like a good thing. But I actually love how overwhelming Avernum, for example, is when you have over a page length of quests and really don’t even know what to do next.

I also found each quest area (not sure of the correct term here) very linear. Like, you get to a quest area, map changes from distant to closer up, and there’s really only one way to go. No west path takes you past the barracks, east path takes you past the altar and north takes you to a little boat that takes you to a secret area that...etc. (I miss those secret switches. Or, DID I miss the secret switches?) The “dungeons” in Avernum and Avadon are intricate and exciting. This just felt like, spider, spider, scorpion, spider, person figure that I think is undead, spider, scorpion, etc.

So, better than a lot of what’s available, but disappointing compared to previous games.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Outdated?

*2022-08-16*

Controls are outside my Screen. Game not useable

### 1/5 — Too big for iPhone 12 display!

*2022-07-28, version 1.1.1*

You can’t access mist of the game on my iPhone 12.

Seriously!?

### 1/5 — Window Size problems.

*2021-05-11*

I really want to love this game, as I have been a long time Spiderweb Software fan. But this program doesnt size the window properly on my iphone SE, causing me to be unable to navigate through menu windows effectively.

### 1/5 — This is terrible

*2020-07-31*

Spiderweb software games seem to get worse and worse, not better. This game has such a watered down character progression I couldn’t be bothered to invest any time in it.

### 2/5 — Not sure what to think...

*2019-12-18*

I’ve spent the last 20 years playing Spiderweb games on PC, Exile, Avernum, Geneforge, Avadon, and now this. This game above all others, takes a drastic new turn in gameplay elements which has never been seen before in a spiderweb game. There’s no need for me to explain the differences because there are so many other reviews that do.

I am not a fan of the game to be honest. I tried my hardest to enjoy this game, I really did. I played it for hours hoping I’d find something to like about it. Is it a good/bad game? That depends entirely on you.

### 3/5 — Well ...

*2019-12-31*

I get the whole “streamlined” design explanation but here are 2 things I really want to see:

1. The enemy elimination animation - I find it to be silly and it is immersion breaking. Please include an option in a future patch to use classic Avadon / Avernum style death animation.

2. Include a new setting for slower walking animations. As with previous SW games, party members look like they are in a classic Benny Hill Show chase seen. Also immersion breaking.

Otherwise - enjoying it so far ...

### 3/5 — Kinda disappointing :(

*2019-12-23*

I love Spidersoft's previous games especially the Avernum series, but sad to say this one feels very simplistic and flawed

There are no character attributes (Str, Dex etc), just a limited set of talents to choose when you level up.

Likewise you only gain XP when you advance the storyline, and not from combat, so everything just feels linear and predetermined. I really hate this mechanic.

I will probably complete it now Ive bought it, but I hope this isn’t the future of Spidersoft games. If it wasn’t for their past heritage and reputation, I think this game would be getting panned

### 3/5 — It’s still a good RPG

*2019-12-10*

Sad to say that this is, in my opinion, one of Jeff’s weaker games. I can understand trying to streamline some systems and changing the formula a bit, but I think he took it into a direction that not everyone would resonate with. Hearing him on a podcast say that he drew some inspiration from Darkest Dungeons finally makes more sense as to why he made the decision to change the exp system so drastically. I hope there will be a Queen’s Wish 2 and 3, to see more of what Jeff does with the story of the rise and fall of an empire. As it stands, QW1 is a mediocre RPG with some good writing that makes it just worthwhile.

Also, thank you for making an iOS version!

### 4/5 — Needs pinch to zoom

*2020-07-04*

The new gameplay direction is great. The grid system makes things much easier to navigate, the lack of trash items and reworked inventory is faster to manage, and combat is fun. My one major gripe is the iPhone screen is way too small and zoomed in for navigation. Popping open the map over and over is frustrating. Would help a ton to be able to zoom out, tap where you want to go, and zoom back in.

### 4/5 — Good game, but...

*2020-06-01*

I prefer the older games. Some interesting choices to be made here, with regard to who to back in the vassal states, but I just really prefer the old inventory, etc.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Update on previous review

*2026-01-20*

The issue I had has been resolved. My screen settings were set to zoom.

### 5/5 — Well crafted absorbing adventure

*2025-03-31*

This adventure is worth every penny. It’s interesting, absorbing and has a depth of real storyline that is sadly lacking in so many rpg’s. The decisions you make really do make a difference and you get a thorough account of what your actions produced in the end. I’ve played Spiderweb games since Exile and they’ve always been immersive and great fun. Looking forward to the next! Oh and no annoying in app purchases, just you and your world.

### 5/5 — Give it a chance

*2024-10-29*

I had heard of this developer but never played any of their games before now. Queen’s Wish 1 + 2 are available to download for IPhones, so it was a perfect time to try them out. Haven’t played the second yet but so far I’m having a pretty good time with this game. Story is written well, finding loot is fun, and building up a small nation is also very fun. A lot of people I feel like could be put off from the graphics or even the style, but from my understanding this is a 2 person team with the occasional freelance help to make these games, which in my opinion is VERY impressive. I love RPGs and pretty much have played every single one made in the last couple of decades. Don’t sleep on this game, Indie developers are personally holding up the gaming sphere in my opinion, with most AAA games feeling like a waste of time (and they are). My only wish is if the developer can, to import more of their games on iPhone, and not just iPad. Not sure how much that costs or work needs to be done, but I would definitely purchase more of your games.

### 5/5 — Addictive, pure fun

*2024-07-12*

I love RPGs. This game is amazing. The graphics are simple. But the gameplay is amazing. It’s as if they took an rpg and boiled it down to its best parts.

You can choose to play 5 mins or longer. It’s perfect for picking up here and there. I haven’t had this much fun with an indie rpg since the Doom and Destiny series.

If you’re a fan of rpgs you’ll love this. It’s addictive. I can’t stop playing.

I can’t wait to play part 2 and can’t wait for when part 3 comes out.

### 5/5 — Very fun and enjoyable

*2024-06-25, version 1.1.1*

I love the storyline and how the world gets progressively bigger, especially when you get toward the end.

### 5/5 — Another Masterpiece from Spidweb

*2023-10-17*

Jeff Vogel is a brilliant artist, whose canvas just happens to be old school RPGs. Everything about the game is so well crafted, from the intricately designed world to the balanced, tactical combat. The story is interesting, and though there’s a lot of text, it reads like a good fantasy novel, and explores moral gray areas you wouldn’t usually see in a game. I’ve poured countless hours into this game, and I’ve loved every minute of it.

### 5/5 — Classic CRPG adventure on the iPhone

*2023-08-06*

Queen’s Wish has the feel of a pc game from the earth 2000s. The menus and game mechanics will be familiar to anyone who has played spiderweb software games on computer. this is a deep and complex game, as can be expected from this developer, with a large world to explore, lots of NPCs with extensive dialog, and some strategy elements that set it apart from their earlier releases. if the $9.99 price tag seems steep just be aware that you are getting a full sized CRPG, not a gimmicky mobile game.

### 5/5 — Fantastic title

*2022-08-21*

An extremely deep game, where your decisions matter & choices abound. Well worh playing if you like deep storylines.

Can’t wait for 2!

### 5/5 — Long pedigree of great adventures

*2022-06-01*

This game is the first I’ve been able to play from spiderweb on the iPhone. But I started back with exile in 95 as it was very low resources and good to play while waiting for a render to complete.

The game is well written with huge worlds, rich characters and a pretty involved tactical combat. Amongst the few offline adventures that will really pass the time, if you don’t mind the slightly “classic” feel of the interface.

I would request Jeff to add stats to enemies as playing on hard leaves us with a distinct disadvantage over mac or pc. Other than that it plays well. Thumbs up

### 5/5 — Yet another great game by Jeff Vogal.

*2021-09-24*

Already played it on Steam but figured I would play it again on the iPhone and iPad as I await the sequel that just got Kickstarted. Was glad to be a part of that. While I agree this isn’t the best of his games it’s still five stars and perfect for fans of old school CRPGs.
