This app in it’s current form as of Mid 2025 is truly amazing for the players to do things like view their character sheet, view campaigns, Library, Marketplace, and AI Assistant (with paid features). It is not however designed for the DM to use so that is something you should be aware of. I’d give the 5th star if I could do more via the app as the DM. Like start a session, change the scenes, manage tokens etc. ### 4/5 — This is the best AI assistant so far *2025-07-13, version 6.0.1* I have used quest for about 6 months, and while it has a long way to go, it has done wonders in the strides it has accomplished. Quest is very good for keeping a TTRPG game organized, and it’s fairly easy to use, and that’s in reference to the UI. It’s artificial assistant that I have dubbed “quest”, is fairly good at giving out details. While many of the details are generic, it can produce some interesting creations. However it truly shines when you use it as an assistant and not a content generator, which is how AI should be. Quest is capable of providing and even sometimes offering up new ideas while working off of the details you provide it, which is very interesting and helpful when you have writers block. Personally I’ve had it flush out some of my ideas, and it filled in some minor ones that I didn’t even consider. I would recommend quest. Honestly it’s kinda hard to make a character but overall a good app ### 4/5 — Great so far… *2024-09-16, version 3.1.0* The app has been great so far and I understand they can’t accommodate for every ttrpg that gets released but I would like it more if the ttrpg I’m doing is listed which is Break!!rpg. ### 5/5 — Must Have for Campaign Building *2024-08-20, version 2.4.7* This app has given me the ability to put in a body form in my story that I never thought I could do myself allowing me to develop characters and side quests. Giving me the words that I otherwise could not figure out myself. I wasn’t sure about paying for a subscription, but it was definitely worth it considering all the hours. Nothing seems to stand out just yet as it seems like a cash grab outfit, gamers aren’t always ready for anything new that isn’t widely followed. ### 5/5 — A gift to DMs *2024-05-19, version 2.3.8* So far I’m loving this app. The possibilities are endless. ### 5/5 — Best organization tool for DMs, hands down! *2024-05-06, version 2.3.7* Haven’t dealt with it on the player-end, so can’t speak for that. But as a DM for 5e, this thing is amazing. I mostly use the desktop version, but it’s nice to have access to mobile on the go. I use the notes and scenes to design encounters, but what’s icing on the cake is the AI assistant. I use it to generate quick loot/item tables, random monsters to spice things up. One instance that really impressed me was when i asked it to create a special attack for a boss monster that i thought could use a boost in difficulty. It came up with something reasonable and powerful in a matter of seconds. ### 4/5 — The best app on my phone *2024-04-07, version 2.3.3* Literally obsessed with this app. There are a few issues I’m waiting for the developers to update before I rate it 5 stars and sign up for the subscription service. The website has substantially increased functionality compared to the app but as they are relatively new I’m being patient and waiting. I truly believe, with time and updates, Quest Portal can be improved to be the definitive app for role playing games easily rivaling Roll20 or World Anvil Updates I’m waiting for Including but not limited to: Change character avatars on app, can only do on website Add a hidden tab to character sheets that only dm can see while the rest remains open to the players (currently I have 2 copies of most characters 1 hidden 1 not) Create custom template sheets besides blank and call of Cthulhu Toggle display of hidden characters so the game master can easily see just what the players see Undo button mostly for when I accidentally delete a detailed table Filter by which campaign instead of just in/out of campaign Create places/factions not just people Access notes on app A map building function instead of just uploading pictures and putting a grid over them I am also waiting for developers to post more tutorials on YouTube so I fully explore and be aware of all the amazing tools Quest Portal has to offer ### 5/5 — Quest Portal review *2024-02-19* Great App! I’m just tired of the subscription fees on anything. Give me an option to purchase the program fine. I don’t wanna keep paying. Lifetime membership for X amount of money. Closed the app. White screen. Deleted the app. Still white. Turned off my phone and no change. My review is low for now but I hope some sort of bug fix comes out and I can give it the stars it deserves. As of right now this is all I can give it unfortunately. ### 1/5 — Can’t Create New Campaigns From the App? *2024-03-06, version 2.2.0* I don’t want something I have to move between my computer and my app, I was going to move to this From roll 20 because it had an app, which is far more user-friendly for my players. As far as I can tell, there’s no way to create your campaign in the phone app. If I’m wrong, I would love a response from the devs. ### 1/5 — Lacking *2024-02-10, version 2.1.0* It has very little content to use for a TTRPG, the system is hard to use and it requires the use of the desktop first. There several other sites and apps that have a better experience. ### 2/5 — Ok’ish app, bad service *2026-02-03, version 7.6.0* I gave this a try and we’re it’s nice to create modules, campaigns, etc, it’s a points based system. You are allotted points to use to generate. But here’s the catch. If the app should fail or error and you need a retry, it docs you the points again. This simply may be a bug but it scams you out of your points. On top of that I found numerous consistency errors that I manually had to fix that took several hours. There is plenty of free reputable generators that do a better job. Even dndbeyond works better. Don’t waste your money. ### 2/5 — Could have been great… Riddled with A.I, saps creativity. *2025-08-24, version 6.0.1* I’d love to use this more, but I think it’s a shame that there’s too many integral A.I generative features for a game based on human imagination and creativity. Nice as far as UIs and smoothness goes, but WAY too heavily invested in pushing A.I features in your face, and it goes a bit too far with it. Won’t be using long-term as a result, and if you value the core aspects of TTRPGS then you shouldn’t either. ### 2/5 — Lacklustre *2024-02-11, version 2.1.0* I don’t know who gave it 5 stars, must be the devs? The way this app was advertised was it’s like chat gpt but specifically for D&D/TTRPG’s instead you only get 2 pre selected choices for an NPC and back story, this app has given you not even the bare minimum to make it worth it. On top of that to ‘unlock’ it’s full potential the want a subscription, I can’t bring myself to want the need for it when I can get so much more from other TTRPG related apps fore FREE! Maybe the devs can give the users more to give reasons for the user to want to get the subscription. ### 2/5 — It's cool, but... *2024-01-18, version 2.0.0* I made an account, joined the 7 day trial. The whole assistant feature is super helpful. But, when I went to start a new campaign, the app immediately made a Call of Cthulu campaign, and wouldn't let me cancel it. I wanted to make a Homebrew one for D&D. What made it worse is that the assistant told me to go to the website to fix it, but the app account I made is impossible to log into on the quest portal. ### 3/5 — Love the interface, but missing features *2024-08-31, version 3.0.1* I really love this VTT. I’m building my first campaign with it! The desktop version is great, with only a few limitations I’m able to work around. The mobile app is a great companion but it’s very difficult to DM from. I can’t find the scene selection tool to change the scene for the players, and also there’s no audio for music or sound effects on mobile. I’m eager to see how the app continues to develop! Thanks! ### 3/5 — A Good VTT not quite ready for Prime Time *2024-06-17, version 2.4.3* Edit: my issues are with the mobile app; I do a lot of my prep on the go; As VTTs go, QP stands out for its AI integration, and the AI assistant is incredibly useful and fun; but there are numerous functions that seem to be missing or incomplete due to either bugs or oversights. For example, their advertised AI avatar generation is nowhere to be found in the character creator, and you can name your files, but all the notes inside them show up as untitled and can’t be named. I’m sure these issues will be fixed soon, but for now, there are better free VTTs and it’s definitely not worth the $8 for the pro level. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Unique and Fun *2026-02-27, version 8.1.2* This is the only VTT with mobile support on this level of good quality I’m aware of. Overall a passionate and satisfying design. ### 5/5 — Amazing platform/Amazing People *2025-12-09, version 7.3.0* Quest Portal is an amazing platform that is CONSTANTLY being improved. It has proven to be simple , effective and quickly approaching Best In Class status. Recent Ai additions with their Assistant is the only current paywall, but I encourage all to try it out, in order to harness the full power of your personal creativity. Did I mention that the small team building this product respond daily to queries and suggestions? Look for no other Virtual Tabletop for your RpG or other story telling and community endeavors. I run a mental health D&D campaign and it generates psychosis symptoms, actions, point techniques and recovery steps for my players to “combat” when helping NPCs. The paid for version is unnecessary to use the app BUT is super useful when I have creators block or short on time when creating characters for my players to interact with and/or fight.
