It is also telling me to update but I can’t. I’ve even tried deleting the app and reinstalling it but am still getting the messages. I am not really an outdoorsy person as a rule but I am finding myself getting up early with my daughter, grabbing a hat and sensible shoes to go and find birds...birds people! It’s such a great buzz when one of your submissions is accepted and my daughter loves collecting gold. The perfect holiday app! ### 4/5 — Fun! *2018-09-21, version 6.21* Really enjoying submitting my sightings and learning new species. Mostly common ones but still great fun. A couple of improvements I would suggest. I have a couple of offline sightings that don’t have a photo with them but I can’t delete them so they are stuck. In the QLab history the species name is fancy script across the top doesn’t have enough characters visible for most species meaning I can’t see the full name or common name of the identification. Written underneath in normal text would be better and I would be able to learn more stuff. We have had so many more conversations about the creatures around us us to the app engaging the kids including my boy on the autism spectrum. ### 5/5 — Love it! *2018-05-14, version 5.8* Engaging and fun app. Great to use with kids and to get them (and me!) more excited about going outdoors. ### 3/5 — A few issues, but great potential. *2018-02-12, version 5.5* First off, I’d like to make clear that you should not be discouraged from downloading and using this app, it has some issues, but with more downloads I hope the creators will further develop QuestaGame. I haven’t reported too many sightings as of yet, but I like the idea of expert feedback. When I first tried to search species, they weren’t coming up. From what I’ve found it seems that the search works every other time you stop typing. For example: if you type “Canada Goose” fairly quickly without pausing, it will appear and you can chose the correct option. If you type “Can” and pause for a second, a bunch of options will come up, and if you finish writing “Canada Goose” without pausing this time, no options will appear. When I submitted my first few sightings, this made me think that they had very few species in their data, but I did get used to the strange searching. Another thing that I didn’t like was the fact that you can only report a few sightings per day. I understand this is to limit the amount of gold you can get, but 4 a day seems to discourage me from using the app a lot. The gold you receive for rarity seems to be a bit inconsistent, for example: I received 79 gold (in the sighting rarity category) for my report of a Greater White-fronted Goose. This species of goose is expected in Massachusetts USA this time of year, but rare. They are not extremely rare, but the farthest east their normal migration route goes, is to Illinois. Like I said, a few Greater White-fronted Geese are always seen in MA this time of year, but definitely not considered common. The reason that the number of gold received is strange, is because for the same category, (sighting rarity) on my report of a House Finch, I received 95 gold. House Finches are not a bird that I would consider extremely common, but they are very common feeder birds in Massachusetts at any time of year because they are non-migratory. The last (very) small issue I have is formatting, the app isn’t super pleasing to the eye and navigation is a bit difficult at times. The feel of it is a bit underdeveloped, but not that bad, like I said, it’s just a small issue. If all of these problems were resolved, there is no doubt that this would be a 5 Star app, it has great potential! I love the idea of collecting species, and the fact that experts review them is wonderful, it gets people outside and exploring, and it can teach people so much. ### 4/5 — Questagame... *2018-01-12, version 5.3* I love this app so much. I find it is a good way to get scientists looking at new species. The only problem I have with it is that you have a limited amount of sightings in 24 hours. I understand that if the scientist get many sightings, they could be overloaded with information. I reckon the daily limit should be 5 or 6 in case you go for a long bush walk. It was a great way to get them into photography too. We started setting quests for each other but when we posted pictures they wouldn’t be credited to quests. After several emails I just found out that my camera has to be gps enabled to do quests, even the little ones we set each other. Kids gave up at that point. It’s a real shame. ### 2/5 — Crashes *2018-10-11, version 6.21* Crashes every time I select an observation synced from my inaturalist account. Only reason I downloaded was bc of the inat partnership so until they fix this, I’m not interested. ### 2/5 — Strange, rude, could be better *2016-06-21, version 3.7* The scoring system is supposed to depend on rarity, yet a daily find here is worth more than a migratory find. The "sighting accepted" email from the verification people are flat out rude and extremely condescending. Majority of species missing, yet when you add it, you're told its that but more likely something different.....huh???Personally I'll be deleting my account and app from both my iPad and phone. A good idea but poorly executed. ### 3/5 — Great app, new update keeps crashing though *2022-08-24, version 10.0.18* I love this app, I’ve been doing the uni BioQuest and it’s great… but I just updated the app and now it crashes every time I try to open it on my phone so I can’t upload any of my new sightings :( I tried deleting the app and reinstalling it, restarting my phone and a few other things but nothing seems to work so I think it must be a bug in the app itself. It still works on my laptop so I can identify other people’s sightings, but I can’t upload any of my own, so it’d be great if this could be fixed! I’d love to be able to give QuestaGame a higher rating because it is a great app and it has made me far more observant of the world around me in the short time I’ve been playing, so once this crashing problem is fixed it’ll be great. ### 3/5 — Great game, app needs improvements *2020-01-10, version 6.65* I love this game, the idea and what it does. Also, I really hope it succeeds. I would have a good chance of succeeding if the app made some dramatic improvements- An easy design fix is to make all text readable, some is dark on a dark background. Some explanations could be clearer. App crashes whenever i click to add field notes, which is a crucial part of the game i can’t play because of that. I run iOSX on quite a new phone.
