I like this app, but its use is limited to my few students who can manage all four forms at once. I love the data but I still have to write down what level I had the child working on. As an SLP, it's a great app but please add that piece in. The reason I don't give it five stars is that it needs a few things. It really needs an info page to fully explain the different parts of the app. Second, you need the option to choose what wh question(s) you want to work on. I don't like working on all four at once. The voice is still somewhat robotic but I find that some students with ASD respond to that voice. It is still not five stars due to my problems that I listed in my previous review: 1) no info page. The app is pretty easy to navigate, but it would be nice if there was an info page that explained the setup of the app and what each level exactly means, i.e. what's the difference between sentence and advanced sentence. 2) more customization. a) It would be nice if I can only have what doing or where questions or a combo of the two be asked instead a mix of all four. Some kids can handle all four, but others would benefit from just one at a time. What I do so far is mute the app, cover the question pic with my hand and only ask one question form during one activity. b) I like having 3 picture sentences as well as 4 picture sentences, but there are not many 3 pictures sentences and I wish they showed up more or I had the option to only work on 3 picture sentences. Also, it seems like the difference between sentence and advanced sentence is that the order of the pictures is presented as who, what, where, when and when, who, what, where (i.e. Brother, breaking, playground, Tuesday vs. Yesterday, he, closing, bedroom). It would be nice if there was another Sentence level that combined the two types of sentences and presented them randomly. Hope this makes sense. Overall, I like this app and recommend it, but I still have to do too much modifying to it for me to give it five stars. ### 5/5 — LOVE THE UPDATE! *2012-05-17, version 1.1* I LOVE this app! What a wonderful way to really see if your child really understands what they are "reading". However, I had never used it because of the voice. The breaks between spoken words is not long enough & seems to almost blend into one really long word, instead of the sentence it should be. Would be extremely hard for a child with Autism to understand! ### 5/5 — Great app to teach a true understanding of wh-questions. *2011-12-11, version 1.0* The voice is annoying, it's true. I find it kind of grating. However, the students with whom I have used it, ranging in age from 5-8, and ranging from severe disabilities to general education--it hasn't bothered any of them. Not a single one has thought it was a problem. A few commented that it sounded like a robot. Voice aside (and I do hope it will be improved in an update), I love this app! Answering wh-questions is so much more functional in this format than what I often see in SLP therapy materials. It's not a quiz on vocabulary or concepts the child might know (such as typical in other flashcards, like "Who takes care of sick animals?" or "Where do you go to check out books?") Instead, it is teaching what each question word actually MEANS. Most of the kids I work with need to learn that "Who" questions need a person or animal answer, and "Where" questions are looking for a place. I like the levels of cueing. In the sentence level, I thought that students would easily just match the color of the question card to the color of the cue card and get them all right. It has only happened with one student, however, out of the at least 40 with whom I have used this app. But if your population catches on sooner than mine, you can always switch to the Level 3, which has no color clues, or the paragraph level, with more than one cue card of each color. I have used it mostly at the sentence level, as my students aren't yet ready for the more complicated paragraph level. And at that level, there is a great amount of variety in the presentation of sentences. Even across multiple sessions, I don't hear the same sentences over and over. All in all, I am finding this app exactly what I needed for working with wh-questions. Even with the annoying voice, I find myself using this app over and over in my therapy. On sale it seems to be a better price--but I paid full price and still am glad to have it. I would like to see it with a different voice, with better reinforcement, and the option to record would be awesome. More customization, like being able to add students and other famiilar people to the potential "who" cards, and familiar places to the potential "where" card places, would also be very useful. I still give it 5 stars, because I think the underlying concept of this app is so great, and one of the best resources out there for learning how to answer wh-questions. ### 5/5 — Brilliant! *2011-12-09, version 1.0* I predict ? It will become one of my most used apps very quickly! Teach WH-questions in a highly structured, extremely well designed, systematic manner AND email yourself the data for each session. And, did we mention, reinforces the use of picture symbols! I liked the built in prompting that I can fade out. However, I lost all access to the app with the newest update. I need to pay $27.99 again to get the full version. ### 1/5 — My opinion and review of the app Question It? *2015-11-14, version 1.2* Question It? The app Question It? is basically based on grammar. It helps a student learn their who, what, when, and wheres. This is wonderful for a 3rd grader or lower. Until I started to explore it. The voice is terrible! Very difficult to understand; robotic (similar to the first computerized voices from decades past); too fast. Disappointing considering all the advancements in synthesized speech. And too bad, because it stopped me from exploring what the app has to offer. I understand a new voice is in the works, which I am so glad to hear! The basis for this app is great and fills a huge need in apps for SLP therapy...with a better voice. As is, I do not feel it's worth the current pricing. It is the best app I know of to assess whether a student really understands the meaning of ‘wh’ questions. I do wish you could turn off or minimize the feedback a student gets after they make a response. ### 5/5 — Great App for Middle School Students with Autism! *2014-05-30, version 1.1.1* In my middle school classroom, the students enjoy using iPads for educational programs, earning as a reinforcer, and as a form of communication. One app in particular is fun, educational, and engaging for my students. The app is called Question It. The app is used to teach students to answer various “wh” questions with the aid of visual supports. The app has various levels of sorting that the student or teacher can choose from, ranging from one word to paragraphs. With the help of color cues that fade out as the student progresses through the app, this enables the student to learn by errorless teaching. The student has fireworks displays as reinforcement sporadically throughout the app when answering correctly. There is even a portion of the app that keeps data on the student’s progress on the number correct out of the total number of questions per activity level. This data can then be sent via email to the teacher. This month, the app was put on my students’ ipads and they all enjoyed engaging in the educational app! My students struggle with differentiating between the various “wh” questions, but with this app the students are eager to work on this difficult skill for them while learning in a fun and errorless manner. I hope to see in the future the skill of answering comprehension questions generalized to use outside of this app and I would highly recommend this app to other teachers and parents. ### 5/5 — Great app *2014-01-14, version 1.1.1* I love that this app follows Fitzgerald key to teach words, what kind of word it is, and to help comprehension. The user can select the level of complexity and support they need in one of four categories, sorting, sentences, and then sentences, and paragraphs. The therapist or teacher can list current students and chart and track their progress. Excellent reinforcement allows this to be both the teaching and assessment tool. I've been using this one for a few weeks with some of my autistic students who have a very hard time asking and answering questions. They absolutely love it.
