### 2/5 — If it's ain't broke...

*2017-01-07, version 3.0.2*

Don't fix it. And if you do, make sure it works. So far, I'm finding the updated version of the app, while in some ways visually more appealing, not to work as well as the old version. And despite the bug fixes, the brightness controls still don't work correctly.

### 2/5 — New Version is buggy

*2017-01-01, version 3.0.1*

Looks great. Works very inconsistently. Will dim my lights when I set it to max brightness. Then I have to play the game where I flip the slider around until my lights will stay on bright.

Colors also change all over the place while sliding the brightness. Was flawless before.

### 2/5 — Not easy or intuitive

*2014-10-13, version 2.10*

Despite this app claiming to be easy, I could not readily get it set up to control just the lights I wanted. I have 16 Hue and Lux lights and need a simple foolproof way to be able to turn them on and off individually or in small groups, without the possibility of affecting the rest of them. This app caused other household members to be very angry for "messing with" their lights.

### 2/5 — Ugly, unintuitive app

*2014-08-17, version 2.09*

Bought this after reading Gizmodo review… wish I hadn't. Do yourself a favor and take a good look at the UI before purchasing.

### 2/5 — Almost is for hand grenades.

*2014-05-03, version 2.09*

I could have bought a soda with that dollar. Colors aren't accurate. Sliders are glitchy. And the warm color temperature is pink. One you figure out how to use it, it's too late. No thanks.

### 4/5 — Nice!

*2014-01-17, version 2.07*

Quick but powerful alternative.

### 4/5 — The Missing Hue App

*2013-12-18, version 2.06*

The Hue app from Philips is missing on some very basic controls. I've been looking at other apps to help me group and simply turn on and off groups of lights easily - and this one works as advertised! Definitely worth the money.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2013-11-15, version 2.0*

Don't waste your money on this app. Insane UI, no timers, loses its connection to the hub every few seconds. Yuck.

### 1/5 — Do not waste your money

*2013-11-11, version 2.0*

After reading an article that recommended this app and looking at previous reviews, I thought this would be a safe bet - I was SO WRONG. Leaving aside the constant crashing, the UI is completely incomprehensible and ignores standard and Apple recommended UI guidelines. For instance to edit and move lights into sections you tap an icon in the menu bar (which you have to enable the help screen to figure out) and then drag lights around. And if you want turn off all the lights at once and you have more that fit on one screen then the app will only turn off those that are visible on screen instead of the whole group.

I can only guess the previous non-iOS 7 version of the app made more sense. Even with the bugs aside the app is cumbersome and unintuitive and a big let down.

### 2/5 — Confusing interface, lacking features

*2013-06-09, version 1.25*

I found this app difficult to use. The interface is confusing, and it seems there is no way to set color or dim the lights as a group, just individually.

### 2/5 — Can't adjust by groups

*2013-06-05, version 1.25*

All I want is to be able to set color and brightness by group. Thought this app was it. But no. Groups only allow you to turn on/off by groups. All adjustments are individual lights only. Should be able to swipe the group names to do adjustments.

Also interface seems simple but its too simple. It's hard to remember which way to swipe to adjust color or brightness. When adjusting brightness it's hard to get out of that screen too.

### 1/5 — Confusing!

*2013-05-26, version 1.25*

Lame

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — I want my money back!!!

*2016-04-30, version 2.4*

It won't connect to the hue bridge. This app is total garbage! Run away very quickly!!!

### 1/5 — NOT WORTH IT

*2015-11-28, version 2.4*

Doesn't recognize all the lights and it creates conflict with the main Philips Hue app. Would like my money back.

### 1/5 — What happened?

*2015-09-03, version 2.4*

This used to be my "go to" hue app. Now it's entirely useless. If they don't fix it, don't buy it!

Stinks that these silly apps don't put any time into testing and quality. A shame that it's broken now.

Try something else.

### 1/5 — Horrible

*2015-01-17, version 2.33*

Worse than the original Phillips app

### 1/5 — Unbelievable

*2014-12-27, version 2.33*

The simple fact that I had to pay $0.99 for this app after buying 3 bulbs for $200 makes me dislike Phillips. And the app is pretty bad, the layout is unnecessarily complicated and difficult to navigate. There also are VERY few options for there to be so much confusion in the app. It could and needs to be so much simpler.

### 1/5 — Pretty Bad

*2014-12-26, version 2.33*

Unintuitive, spotty connection, move along until a better one comes around.

### 1/5 — Waste of money

*2014-11-03, version 2.30*

The widget, main reason why I bought the app, doesn’t really work, it shuts off the lights but doesn’t turn them on correctly. Also, there seems to be no way to use same lamps in multiple scenes, so you have to choose to control every light room by room or all together, which makes the whole app quite useless.

### 1/5 — Good concept, but buggy

*2014-10-12, version 2.10*

Partitioning lights into section to quickly access them is a good idea. However the bulbs do not always repond accordingly to actions, not even to defined colors. Must check this app for fixes.

### 1/5 — Terrible Application

*2014-06-27, version 2.09*

Between having a god-awful interface, incompatible system grouping, and unreliable bulb control, there is zero reason whatsoever to buy this app. "Terrible" is, quite frankly, too nice a word for this junk.

### 1/5 — Don't bother.

*2013-11-16, version 2.0*

The app crashes constantly on ios 7.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — What I was looking for

*2014-12-27, version 2.33*

I just wanted a simple way to manage the Hue lights in my house and this app gives me that. I'll be using this all the time.

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2014-12-27, version 2.33*

An easy to use and beautiful interface! Nice work!

### 5/5 — Simple and Practical

*2014-12-08, version 2.31*

I've tried quite a few Hue apps and this one is my clear favorite for day-to-day use. It provides full control of all Hue featues without getting cluttered up with stuff (I'm talking to you "Scenes") that have only occasional utility. This allows the UI to be minimalist (in a good way) and quite intuitive. Spend a couple of minutes reviewing the included instructions (so the wife and kids don't have to) and you are away.

I did have a minor issue with naming lighitng groups (called Sections in this app) but with some amazing customer support the developer fixed this in a new version over one weekend.

### 5/5 — Helpful app

*2014-10-30, version 2.10*

Great app so far. Keep up the good work.

### 5/5 — Great!

*2014-09-07, version 2.10*

I love this app. Just what I was looking for to quickly change color and brightness.

### 5/5 — Best Hue remote

*2014-02-23, version 2.09*

This was clearly written by someone smart... Use this to control my Hue now instead of the default app, so much smarter!

One tip for the developer: on iPhone it took me a while to learn how to get back to regular view after sliding to turn a lamp's brightness, would be cool to leave a bit of the bar on the right side as a visual cue (just like the iPad app does).

### 5/5 — Works great!

*2013-10-18, version 1.25*

Very easy, very simple. Exactly what I wanted!!!

### 5/5 — Best Hue App

*2013-06-06, version 1.25*

Simple and easy to use!

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2013-04-20, version 1.25*

Simple access to the controls I need for my Hue lights.

### 5/5 — Intuitive and well-made

*2013-03-18, version 1.25*

Don't be put off by the seemingly low star rating caused by 1-star reviews from people who couldn't get the app to work. It was easy to set up, and the interface is fantastic. I've tried several different apps, and some have fun options for rapid color shifting that this doesn't have, but none of them help you manage your lighting system so intuitively and easily (including the Philips app). The ability to group lights is a huge help, and if the makers were to add the possibility to manage timing and alarms, this would be a perfect app. For that reason, I'd probably only give this 4 stars at the moment, but I want to help offset the unhelpful 1-star reviews.
